only adds up to the tension... actually the controls are fine if you get used to it. RE 1-3 is more atmospheric, narrow corridors encourage the feeling of claustrophobia and the sense of desolation enhances the jump scare because you feel reluctant to push forward as you dont know what lies at the next corner. this complement well with the slow pace of the game. Where SH triumphs with its psychological horror, RE 1-3 masters the panic and survival fear of fight or flight encounters. fight or flight wont be tense if you can always choose to fight and surprise wont be effective if you see it coming 10 meters ahead. RE 1-3 camera works because even though you know something will jump at you, you cant tell what it is and where it will come from. RE4 breaks all the tension by making you a long rangesharp shooter hero who doesnt run out of ammunition
Do people even care about the Resident Evil games in the sense they have an attachment to the story, characters, the gameplay? Because RE4 is regarded as the best RE game out there, and Shinji Mikami directed it, and I've faith he'll blow us away with Evil Within; why aren't people more stoked for that?lamprey263

yeap RE 1 2 3 are cheesy alright, but its forgivable because the setting makes you think that they belong in an era were such cheesiness and cliche are the norm. you know like the film noir or diesel punk fiction were the sensibilities is cheesy yet appropriate (ex. Batman the animated series) in modern RE 4 5 6 with digital and high tech weaponry the cheesiness feel so out of place making it annoying.

the same way you suspend disbelief. its base on the context, the premise, the culture, the limitation of the media. many scifi film for example murder natural physical law, its annoying to the point many who realize it feels its an insult as a viewer. cheesiness is somewhat the same. its annoying because for certain culture the cheesy action feels exageratted or inappropriate our out of style or goes opposite to what it wanted to convey.
I remember playing Code Veronica on Dreamcast , the first next-gen resident evil from Capcom ( PSX had RE3:nemesis at the time ) ... It was so damn awesome and i had so great time with it with so many awesome atmospheric regions and bosses that was easily one of my best horror/survival experiences i ever had. I think the best thing Crapcom can do is a classic Resident Evil 2 remake. I cant see how RE7 will go back to its roots , i just cant.

IMO RE Darkside Chronicles is not a bad rail shooter it reminds a lot of RE2 in the racoon city episode.

I dont care seeing as the monstrosity that was Resident Evil 6 destroyed the entire franchise for me! I will never look at Resident Evil in the same way again!

It is not new, it is a reworking of an N64 game that got cancelled. If you really want to be technical, maybe but it still came out after Code Veronica either way, it originally being for the N64 doesn't cancel that out and REmake might as well be a new RE considering how awesome it is.

REmake is awesome, still not new though, just DLC on a new engine, but a fantastic one at that! Why you hating on CV?

i just want them to go back to their roots, small corridors with dangeroues zombies ( yes dangerous, not 1 bullet kill a dozen) and great music with weird monsters chasing you.
