Really, I see a game that may be better than God of War IIIin almost every aspect of the game

Graphics: So GOW III may be better techinically, but Castlevania will be better artistically. There is greater value in art design than in techincal graphics.

Gameplay: Other than the boss fights, GOW III is a complete borefest. Hack slash hack slash. From the looks of it, Castlevania will have more varied gameplay with no QTE's.

Sound: Ummmm...its Castlevania. No contest here.

Story and Characters: Now this is where complete destruction of God of War III occurs. Castlevania has substance, even looking at the trailer. God of war III, or the series of that matter, has very little substance. From the looks of it, this new Castlevania may deal with the loss of a loved one and about death in general, GOW III...smash...torture...blood...guts...YEAH!!!!! Protagonists...Kratos, an adolescent boys wet dream, a shallow unniteresting character that tortures and kills anyone that crosses him in the most violent manner. No substance, very little depth, very little intellegence. Gabriel Belmont on the other hand looks to be a very likable protagonist who we care for...always trying to do the right thing, but kills when he has to. He also seems intellegent, as he is aware his quest to restore his wife to life may be a trap.Surrounding him will be a memorable cast of supporting characters and antagonists. Patrick Stewert FTW. While the story could ultimately dissappoint, a disappointing Castlevania story is better than a well executed GOW story.

From the looks of it however, it should easily trump the highly underrated Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness as the best story in the series(the N64 game starring werewolfCornell, in which, somehow there is also a Cornell in the new game)

Hopefully, Castlevania will make us forget about the grossly overrated and idiotic GOW III when it comes for GOTY awards.

I absolutely adore the Castlevania games for the DS. I will definitely keep an eye on this one. I haven't played God of War 3, though, so I cannot compare.

depends. i thought gow3 was pretty easy and boring to play, no need to do anything but button mash pretty much, at least on the normal difficulty. scale was exaggerated as well, most parts were pretty confined save for a few sections. however, last i checed castlevania has sucked hard in pretty much all the 3d installments so far, so who knows how it will turn out.

I like GoW III's art, I like GoW III's gameplay, I adore GoW III's sound ... story not so much, characters sure. A game tried to copy all those things before, and it wasn't that good. Hopefully this copy of God of War is better.

The only good 3d Castlevania is Legacy of Darkness for the N64......it fixed almost all the problems that made Castlevania 64 suck. It also has an upgraded version of Castlevania 64 after you beat Cornell's game. The other 3d ones were not good.

eh even legacy of darkness got like 63 percent on gamerankings (just checked it), so in that case i guess its safe to assume all 3d castlevania games suck. i love the ds ones however, but not a fan of the hod xbla one.

I seriously doubt you have played much GOW, it has puzzles/platforming segments too. I wouldn't knock the game LOS has the most in common with. As for LOS being better who knows, GOW3 was pretty great despite the ending and the story. I'm excited for LOS but it has alot to live up to, not just GOW but also the older Castlevanias/Metroidvanias.

it was hit by critics because it was an upgraded version of Castlevania 64 released as a full game. It should have been Castlevania 64 in the first place.

I disagree actually my favorite 3d castlevania was the first PS2 one. I liked the look, story and characters. It also was the origin story of the belmont vs dracula thing. Will this destroy GOW3 idk,but I have a feeling this will be a good-great game. Also from some gameplay clips iv seen there were some qte. Im going to pre order the CE of lords of shadow since I do love the series.

The N64 one had a better story and characters........I liked how Rienhardt tried to save Rosa, a vampiress who he met at the villa )watering flowers with blood), It was a very poignant storyline about love, sacrfice, and forgiveness. Carrie also had a great storyline...and she is faced with probably the most evil Castlevania villian in the series, Actrise. Cornells story, takes place before Rienhardt and Carries, but ties everything together.

Castlevania is one of my favorite franchises of all time. Unfortunately, I have yet to enjoy a 3D title. Harmony of Despair is fun though. This is one of my most anticipated games currently.

But I don't see the point in comparing it to God of War. Everything is subjective. I actually like the artistic style in GoW, and also the sounds/gameplay/characters. It all conveys brutality. From Kratos' two-dimensional, barbaric personality to the insane blood to the bone crunching sounds. It gets the job done.

I don't see the point in comparing the two. I get that they look to play similar but it's essentially the same as comparing Halo to Wolfenstein. There's just too many differences.

(And Lords of Shadow has QTE)

I played this at E3, and I can't really think of any way in which it was better than GOW3.

http://gameinformer.com/games/castlevania_lords_of_shadow/b/ps3/archive/2010/04/09/preview.aspx It's too early to tell if this will be a major criticism of the game, but at least one element proves that MercurySteam doesn't want to directly ape Kratos' combat style. When I asked if quicktime events will be a gameplay element, Cox was quick to react. "We wanted to avoid that. We felt that when it's done like that, the gamer focuses too much on the button and gets distracted from the actual action that's happening." They're instead aiming on presenting the gamer with exciting action scenes without having to worry about a giant button icon distracting them from Gabriel's quest.

But you're acting like LOS is going to be much different. I trust the story will probably be better but the gameplay we've seen so far seems pretty GOWish. Just because we have Patrick Stewart to remind us "THESE ARE DARK TIMES GABRIEEEL" doesn't mean it's going to substance rich. Don't get me wrong, LOS looks great but given the devs track record and it's similarity to GOW while being a Castlevania game kind of make it understandable to be cautious.

This all opinion based on a trailer and some minor write ups, wait and see. No sense getting your hopes up, but I expect a solid game non the less.

its not the gameplay that made GOW III overrated and mindless, its the love of its violence, the torture porn aspect, with a pointless story tailored for adolescent teenage males. It manages to be dumber than Gears of War...another dumb game. I don't think the gameplay in the new castlevania would be anything new...but the pther aspects look to make it special. We know that the story deals with the heroes loss of his wife...thats substance right there.

but GoW fails to capitalize on it in a substantive manner.

Its just an excuse for Kratos to kill everyone in his way in the most violent manner....its never trully explored.

Ok in your dreams maybe. Castelvania looks like complete garbage compared to GOW.

Castelvania looks a bit EMO.

I don't see it in such as shallow manner as yourself especially having played all the games in the gow series. Also, you can ONLY SPECULATE that it will be explored in the way you want in this game as well. It may very well end up being just as you describe it in gow. It's better to wait then say a game will be something that it may not even be aiming to become. This is coming from a Kojima fanboy as well (even though I thought he will only have a minor roll in this project).
its not the gameplay that made GOW III overrated and mindless, its the love of its violence, the torture porn aspect, with a pointless story tailored for adolescent teenage males. It manages to be dumber than Gears of War...another dumb game. I don't think the gameplay in the new castlevania would be anything new...but the pther aspects look to make it special. We know that the story deals with the heroes loss of his wife...thats substance right there.texasgoldrush

That happened in both games you mentioned. lol

but GoW fails to capitalize on it in a substantive manner.

Its just an excuse for Kratos to kill everyone in his way in the most violent manner....its never trully explored.

This seems shockingly familiar ...

First of all, God of War has great graphics, technically and artistically. It is one of the better console looking games this generation. The character models, bosses, etc. all look GREAT. The art-style, the enemies, weapons, scenery, characters, etc. are all designed well. The game has great graphics and art. Gameplay: No Comment. Sound: Your making it seem like God of War 3 has a terrible presentation :|. The soundtrack, voice acting, etc. are all AAA. Story and Characters: Now I know your just trolling.

Why exactly does Castlevania win in sound with no questions there? God of War has one of the best, if not the most epic score ever. The soundtrack is legendary, and the quality is massive (sound alone wouldn't even fit in an x360 dvd :])

And really, GoW is an experience, its challenging, beautiful and extremelly rewarding, and there's no game like it.

We hear this every time a similar game goes up against the PS3 exclusive. Remember Prototype and Dante's Inferno vs Infamous and GOW 3?

Besides WHO CARES? PS3 owners get to play 2 good hack n slash games, Castlevania and GOW 3.

I don't think that it will win in popularity and 3d castlevanias have never been the best either. As much fun as I've had with the GBA and DS games I don't think that in terms of popularity it will ever compare. In terms of the actual game IMO the only part that is hard to top is the presentation because GoW3 is really something in terms of looks. I'd love to see a 3d castlevania compare to the 2d but I just don't think it's happening yet. In terms of hack and slash I think Bayonetta is king and it might be a long time before it's bumped.

I hope so. I found GOW3 to be pretty boring/bland (it was the exact same game as parts 1 and 2...just better graphics and weaker story)

Nope, there are others as well. I loved the series too. My rant on it
1. story is the exact same -someone betrays Kratos right as he is about to 'win' at the beginning, gets sent to hell (sans powers), work the entire game to get back powers and back where you were -looking for pandora's box...again -get 'new' blades...again 2. Action is the exact same -same exact way of fighting same old enemies (skeletons, cyclops, harpies, minotaurs, etc)...nothing new ...but it is easier, especially the 'challenges' 3. Items are mostly the same -same weapons (bow and arrow, blades, wings, golden fleece, helios' head replaces the Medusa one, only hermes sandals are new) -magic is scaled down though. one spell per weapon 4. story starts good and trails off -Kratos gets all emotional towards the end -...blah, blah, blah, "hope this, hope that"...is not Kratos (I am exaggerating here. not THAT bad I guess) 5. Short Game 6. Puzzles are the same -move cranks here, slide blocks there, use wings to glide w/ steam TBH, GoW II should have been about 5 hours longer and included this...Part 3 is really a drawn out expansion pack of part II (but way better looking)
It was sad to see it reduced to that...all to make a buck So I hope Castlevania is the game GOW 3 should have been

Castlevania is known for its music however....the series is almost as legendary as Final Fantasy when it comes to soundtrack.
