CoD gets slaughtered for not evolving, but is Battlefield all that different?

The way I see it they're both FPS war games that just play very differently and cater to different markets; one is a 'tactical' warfare game spanning large maps and one is more of a shoot 'em up arcade warfare game.Having played BF3, the formula is essentially the same as BF:BC2, BF:2142 e.t.c.

I don't think it's really evolved that much more than CoD but don't get me wrong, I can see why neither of them have evolved; they're both very good at what they do and people will still buy them in their millions.

Thoughts SW?

Nothing changed in BF except the graphics/MP improvements. It's still the same old "GADOOSH, BOOM, ACK ACK ACK!"

I can't comment on the SP as I haven't got round to it yet, hopefully they've made it a little harder than BC2 :P

It has jets, which oh wait previous BF games had. It's more like BC2 with jets, or BF2 with BC2 destruction.

New weapons, more accurate destruction, better vehicle physics, a wider variety of all-terrain vehicles, larger and more varied map terrains, more realistic nighttime lighting, better use of deferred shading, consistent maintaining of dedicated servers across all 3 platforms, use of squads, constant evolution of class mechanics. This list continues on and on between each battlefield entry.

Battlefield started with a pretty unique idea and even though other games have tried to copy control points the majority haven't gotten close to BF.

BF2 had a large list of classes, many of which were useless.

BF2142 condensed them into four very useful and custimzable classes.

BF Vietnam tried guerilla war with the vietcong, by allowing the use of stealth traps like pungi sticks, poison, and environmental traps.

BF1942 had fleets of aircraft and battleships and submarines and large land battles (all in one map) and 64 players way back in 2002.

BF2142 tested the water with future war and brought the well-loved titan mode out.

BF3 removes BC2's CoD style perks in favor of realistic gear packages, as well as suppression effects. Also, vehicles can now catch fire, break down, and malfunction. Explosive projectiles that hit a vehicle can kill the occupants and not destroy the vehicle, depending on where it gets hit. An RPG may hit a hummer in the side door and the guy sitting there may be killed instantly while the others live.

To say every BF plays the same is ignorance.

BF3's MP does have changes...

Using a knife is rarely effective against a front-facing enemy and is best used for from-behind stealth kills. The addition of the tactical laser/flashlight is amazing how it temporarily blinds the opponent if you catch them in the eyes with it. The suppresion system, how suppressed players' accuracy and vision suffers, is a purely brilliant addition. Being able to disable vehicles first, instead of being able to outright destroy them, is nice. The on-screen grenade indicator is nicely done and probably my favorite of any FPS so far.

The maps in BF3 are perfect for the scope of the battles and the weapon designs in the game are done very well. The sound effects, like hearing a difference between a shot being fired from a sniper or one from an assault rifle, is probably the best I've ever heard. The squad setup makes much more sense now, and all the weapons seem to be balanced well.

There are a lot of other changes, as well. Play the game and see.

Added a bit (in bold).

Hmm, nice list, really BF has changed a bit throughout the era. Sure there are IPs that have changed more but Battlefield has hardly been a stagnant series. And dont forget the addition of new game modes like Rush.

Not really, since the majority of those 'games' wouldn't be considered 'new' Battlefield titles. And if you look at that list, and have played the games, you would know that BF has actually changed quite a bit over the years.

So, since when the **** did change = quality? So you mean that if IW changed MW3 from MW2-like to something completely new (like a flower game), it would be good because you made a change? No, MW3 is not a big change from previous games, but still looks damn fun to play. And I think that's what gamers care about.

Depending on your point of view, BF3 is actually a worse game. They added destructible environments, but then left out the Commander and changed the Commo Rose on PC. Call it a trade off at best. The Frostbite engine and copying COD perks are the only "evolutions" in the BF series. Frostbite is on its third game, and I'm not impressed with BF3 in that regard. A lot of stuff is non-destructible. The Perks should be done away with. This is BF not COD.

Here's why - Battlefield 1942, and certainly BF2, play way way better in online multiplay than CoD has EVER achieved. It hit it's peak in 2007 with CoD4 - it's been on a decline since then - and CoD4 was just a well balanced and designed, run-and-gun shooter with lots of tight corners to guaruntee some easy kills. It never even came close to being as deep as the oldest Battlefield game, it's always been on a different concept level.

OK, look kid. I'm not going to be rude, but here's the deal: Battlefield, is a nobody. What do I mean by nobody? I mean, it plays in the leagues of, say Resistance, Haze and Rage. Nobodies. Call of Duty 4 is the single most influential entertainment property of this generation. That is something entirely different. If you enjoyed the old BF games more than CoD4, fine. But CoD4 still gathered the biggest fanbase, sold the most, inspired the most developers, created a global phenomenon and is nowadays regarded as one of the finest FPS titles in history. No BF game has ever, or will ever top that, kid.

Try again without the map packs. Battlefield stand-alone titles are just as often released as CoD. It's been proven already. Stop trying to change anyone's mind when facts can't be ignored, and go play your 8.5 game.

Never seen a Battlefield game which has had DLC that cost more than the original game yet offered no new content.

IMO... Battlefield 3 feels exactly like Bad Company 2 with different maps.

The CoD DLC cost less than the game and offered new content (new maps). Troll confirmed? Nobody forced you to buy the DLC. The BF DLC isn't costly, because no one would buy them (in other words, they are really bad). CoD DLC alone outsells some BF games (quality).

[QUOTE="Kan0nF0dder"]Here's why - Battlefield 1942, and certainly BF2, play way way better in online multiplay than CoD has EVER achieved. It hit it's peak in 2007 with CoD4 - it's been on a decline since then - and CoD4 was just a well balanced and designed, run-and-gun shooter with lots of tight corners to guaruntee some easy kills. It never even came close to being as deep as the oldest Battlefield game, it's always been on a different concept level.GTAV2012

Why you calling him kid?

And the Halo franchise did far more for the gaming industry than COD. You sound like a pure fanboy.

Well, if I have to believe you this: [QUOTE="wis3boi"][QUOTE="Loegi"][QUOTE="wis3boi"][QUOTE="Loegi"][QUOTE="wis3boi"] It's still almost yearly. The only years skipped are 2003, 2007 and 2009.

"almost" is not the same as yearly. CoD ships in the same month every year, with ~$45 of DLC released for every single one

From Wikipedia (can't copy paste this one, it's an image) there have been 8 games over the years 2002 to 2011. It's the same with battlefield, it's a 1 game every 1.125 years.

and they all do something different. BF3 is the sequel to BF2 released in 2005. The last game that had gameplay like BF3 was 2142, in 2006

is invalid.

Nothing changed in BF except the graphics/MP improvements. It's still the same old "GADOOSH, BOOM, ACK ACK ACK!"

The only reason there are more CoD games, is that there are two different developers producing CoD titles.

CoD might have the fanbase, but in tactical gameplay and technicalities, CoD can't even dream in the same league of BF, especially the BC series, and now BF3. Why do you think that BF have less of a fanbase than CoD? because of the sheer FACT that CoD holds your hand with overpowered killstreaks that would make a basically average player seem godly in the KDR department, while BF,. you have to EARN that great KDR. Each time you kill someone in BF, YOU DO IT, not some random AI controlled KS that you obtained by getting a certain amount of kills in one session w/o dying. CoD have the fanbase, but BF takes the cake in tactical gameplay by light years "KID".;)

[QUOTE="wis3boi"][QUOTE="GTAV2012"] Good ownage, I laughed out loud.GTAV2012
shall i list every cod and the $45 in DLC each one gets every year?

DLC = stand-alone titles now? Wow, the damage control is insane. Sure, list all CoD games but not the DLC. It's not a game.

Since when are expansion packs that need the original game to run counts as a stand-alone title?

Also you have to notice that some of those titles are only for PC and others are only for consoles so you can't mix all of them together like that . For example on PC fans had to wait 2 year for a new Battlefield at certain point, something similar for console gamers.
