Man, how has this game NOT been reviewed by Gamespot yet?
I'm almost done with it, and I think it's decent. It's definitely not my favorite 3D Sonic, but I'm still having fun. Anyone that thinks this game is a broken mess, or that this story is over the top, is full of it, and never has played an actual bad game in his or her life. My recommendation is that if you like the boost gameplay, give Forces a shot, but it is a budget title, and it feels like one too.
I think I'm going to wait for this one to go on sale before I try it. My next purchase is going to be Nioh instead.

I just beat it a little while ago. I wish it was longer and a little more challenging, but I enjoyed it a lot. I hope they'll at least add more free DLC later.
@LegatoSkyheart: Most likely still drawing straws to see who has the unlucky task of actually playing it!

Yeah, there are definitely some things I don't like mechanically, as well as those two things you mentioned, but this is no '06 in any way. I'd take a Blaze the Cat DLC since she wasn't in Forces for whatever reason, and her gameplay is always fun since it's very similar to Sonic's.

I never played '06, but I can tell that game is a complete mess, and this is nothing like that. I never ran into any glitches either, feels pretty polished to me. It feels a little too on rails sometimes though. If they were to make a Blaze the Cat DLC, I hope it's longer than the Shadow one. It's fun and feels a little more challenging, but it's only three stages.

I didn't try the Shadow levels yet, but at least in the main campaign I haven't ran into glitches or anything like that either. The gameplay is stripped down compared to Generations, and feels awkwardly heavy in 2D, but I agree that overall it doesn't suffer from a severe lack of polish. If someone wants to say that Forces displays an absence of ambition, or really, that Sonic Team doesn't know where to take the series, I can accept that type of argument, but I still think Forces is fun for what it is.
Also Jim Sterling likes Forces and thinks it's better than BotW. I agree.

Little surprised he likes this, but I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes it. I'm sure that'll go over well lol.

Yeah, I'm a little too since he wasn't a fan of Colors. Obviously he doesn't think Forces is actually a better game than BotW, but he does say that it isn't brought down with multiple annoyances like that game was, which I'm sure is enough to piss off numerous people, lol.
Meanwhile Mario on NES was an amazing platformer
No, it isn't. Even Alex Kidd is a better platformer, let alone Sonic.
True. While it deserves respect for popularizing a genre, the actual game of Mario game has slippy unresponsive controls as well as environment and boss rehashes over and over. Ignore the fact it defined a genre, not that great a game. Aged rather poorly compared to something like Shinobi World (which melded two IP's). In reality it's about a 6/7 tops, not the great masterpiece critics like to push.
Mario 2 (the real Mario 2), didn't really expand upon it at all either. Alex The Kidd In Miracle World in comparison pushed so many mechanics and ideas you wouldn't see in Mario titles until much later. Including logical puzzle solving, stuff you're seeing in Odyssey now.
Of course Sega won't get credited for anything.

After watching the video, the impression I get is that Sterling liked Forces more than Colors, but less than Generations.
How do you think Forces compares to Colors and Generations?
@Jag85: It's worse than those two, but if you like the boost formula you can have fun with it. I got all S ranks, which is very easy to do, so there's minimal BS, but overall, it takes steps back from the previous boost games. If Mania didn't exist I'd probably be a lot tougher on it because Sonic Team has had a 4 year gap from between this and Lost World, but at the very least I think Forces is a hell of a lot better than that game.

Sounds quite disappointing. But doesn't sound bad either.
Seems odd how, after Sonic Team finally hit the sweet spot for 3D Sonic with Colors and Generations, they've failed to deliver something of that caliber again. You mentioned earlier it might have something to do with a change in staff after Generations?

Yeah, Sonic Team is kind of a revolving door at SEGA, because people get staffed on different projects all the time. Contrary to popular belief, it's not Takashi Iizuka as the producer and the same group working under him for each game. In Forces case, they put Morio Kishimoto as director, and he's responsible for Secret Rings, Black Knight, Colors, and Lost World. So as you can tell, he doesn't have the best track record, and it makes sense why Forces seems to be designed more similarly to Colors than Generations. The guy I wanted in charge was Hiroshi Miyamoto, because he was the director and designer for Generations, but they keep putting him on different stuff like the Mario and Sonic Olympic games. So even though SEGA is advertising Forces as being "developed by the same team that brought you Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations," it's not really true.
Oh, and here's my totally original character by the way, in case anyone else wants to see or share theirs. Do Not Steal.
I got him dem Beat shades from Jet Set Radio and Mega Drive shoes.

I was going to make a thread about this before seeing this one. WHERE IS THE REVIEW GS? YOu have a home page detailing a Doom Switch Review but no Sonic Forces? Seriously wtf?
They likely just got the game a few days ago. Hopefully they should post a review by the start of next week. at the latest. Just watch the review section of Gamespot to see when the review pops up.

SMB definitely deserves respect for its importance to gaming. But it hasn't aged well. Later platformers like Alex Kidd and Sonic significantly improved on it.
Doki Doki Panic (re-branded SMB2 in the West) is better than the first two SMB games. And so was Alex Kidd. Miracle World was very ambitious, and experimented with all kinds of creative ideas. And Shinobi World also brought its own innovations, like the wall-to-wall jumping (adopted by later Ninja Gaiden and 3D Mario games).
How do I unlock the rest of the stages? Also, I was replaying a bunch of stages last night to S rank them, and the daily mission bonuses make it absurdly easy. I could do bad on a stage and still S rank them no problem lol.
@princessgomez92: You have to collect the red star rings. There's also numbered rings and silver moon rings that show up after you get the red ones, but collecting all of those only unlocks maybe more clothes and wispons. There's no Super Sonic transformation, so only go for the latter two types for completion purposes if you want.

Oh, I'll have to work on getting those then. I don't think I've seen any of the other rings, but I'll probably go for them if it means more clothes.

And boy are there a lot of clothes: over 700 articles of it according to the steam achievement tracker, lol.
Honestly, I kind of like the Avatar, and especially how much you can customize it. I think Forces would have been a stronger game if they focused on longer and had just more stages in general for the Avatar, Modern Sonic, and maybe for Shadow too. Classic Sonic and his borked up physics doesn't really belong here at all.

That is a lot, I probably don't even have half of that. I love the avatar, I'm just a sucker for any kind of character customization. I also love that it's constantly rewarding you with the clothes too. None of that lootbox/microtransaction garbage either lol.
Yeah, the stages were too short. It often felt they were just getting started and then they just kinda end. I didn't care much for the classic Sonic, but at least there wasn't too many. The tag team stages might've been the most fun ones for me, but there's only a handful of them.
