Why? Because of optimization. Sure games look better on a PC if you have the specs but a console game, more likely an exclusive, is tailored to that specific hardware. All the code needed for system compatibility can be taken out and code is optimized for a more fluid and efficient gaming experience. You'll never know how well a game runs on you're PC until you buy it or if you're lucky you can demo it. Then you have the chance of needing to purchase additional or replacement hardware just to run it.

I actually always know how well a game will run on my computer before buying it. I don't even have to ask people. I just know because I'm not an idiot.

Ok but let's say it's a game like crysys which plays better on nvidia cards and you have an old ATI card. And you really want to play crysis. What do you do?

I play it on my PC. Now just because I think it's a disadvantage doesn't mean I don't do it. Yes I built myself a new PC capable of running crysis at 1080p at 30 fps with 4x AA. But it was expensive as hell which is why I think PC gaming isn't worth the hassle anymore. Luckily I use my PC's horsepower for other things besides gaming.

You have to ask yourself just how badly you want to play Crysis, considering if you''ve got an old video card that the rest of your setup is probably out of date too. Do you want to spend money on hardware for a game or not? Not unlike consoles, really. If I really wanted to play Uncharted 2, I'd have to ask myself if I wanted to spend the money opn hardware to play it.

Right, but if Uncharted 3 comes out on the PS3 I won't have to worry about upgrading anything. I'll just buy the game. With better optimization they'll make the game run better and possibly look better without the need to buy more up to date stuff.

I like console gaming more than PC gaming, but that doesn't mean that PC gaming doesn't have its place. As far as RTS, adventure, and FPS's are concerned, I'd probably go PC if I had the specs. But I prefer fighting games, action games, and more other types on the consoles for other reasons.

I guess I just don't like the idea of shelling out thousands of dollars to play a game. In the case of Diablo 3 however, it looks like I'll have to do just that. Diablo 3 ain't coming to consoles. And I have no problem with that.

I do most of my gaming on consoles because I know that every game I play will work without fail 100% of the time. My computer is older and thus, I'll have to either upgrade the crap out of it or just start fresh.

Consoles have their markets just as well as PC's. I guess I'm happy that more dev's are grasping the power of consoles over PC, but I understand that PC gaming isn't dead yet, and with the almost endless customizations you can do on PC's, games have a healthy environment on it as well.

PC gaming isn't dead yet. With computers being in basically every persons house in the US at least, the chances of it going away are slim.

Thanks. I don't think PC gaming should die. I agree that RTS games shouldn't be played on consoles. Adventure and FPS can be on both imo. But I don't think it's worth upgrading your computer just to pay a new game. Even recommended specs don't always run the game smooth.

I see you're point but gaming PCs are not that expensive. Yes they are more then a console but not in the thousands. Right now you can get a video card that can play crysis on very high for about 200$, a good cpu is 200, and ram is dirt cheap. And you don't have to upgrade every 6 months. If you're starting fresh a good PC will be about $900-1200 and last about 4 years before it needs an overhaul.

Honestly there isn't a single game this gen you cannot play if your rig can play crysis at the settings you stated and there probably isn't going to be one but project offset(and I mean in terms of you maxing it) but you will still be able to play it at a setting way above what consoles can do. I understand you don't like the few hassles that come with PC gaming, but hardware pushing titles are basically non existant these days on PC.

I know that's why I built it that way. But the point is that I had to shell out 1300 to do it. and what about crysis 2? what kinda specs will that need just to run? I'll need to start using more crossfire cards.

I don't like console games, no matter how optimized they are. Sure, I'd love a gaming machine that was cheap and very easy to use. Too bad such machines do not have any games that interest me. Plus I simply CAN'T play games on a controller. They don't win for me.

You made PC gaming sound WAY more complicated than it actually is. If you really have that hard a time with your PC go buy a Mac or something.

Crysis 2 with the improvements to the engine is going to be much more optimised than crysis 1, so you could probably max that out as well. Either way it doesn't make the game unplayable for you not to max it and it will still look better than anything on consoles.

The day PC games die is the day you guys lose all hope of getting good consoles. Who do you think develops high end CPUs and Graphics chips .... MS and Sony ????? ROFL (not including the cell). Nvid/ATI/AMD/intel .... without an aggressive gaming market for them to develop for on the PC platform you guys are gonna have to run on net book quality stuff someday.

Zero_epyon

Besides the rest of your post that is highly misinformed. Enjoy your lesser framerates that some how grant you more fluidness.

If PC gaming dies why would those companies stop working if apparently they affect the consoles too. They'd just focus more on consoles i guess.

consoles aren't profitable for them enough to invest as much as they do in R&D

Death of PCgaming would cripple console gaming forever, both hardware and software wise

it takes very little to run cod4 in 600p or even new games in 720p on low -med settings. consoles have lots of tricks to make them appear much better than they are. any half decent pc since 2006 will have no problem running new games at console settings. plus for $400 + os you can get a much better pc than ps3. athlon 2 x2 250, 4gb ram radeon 4670 500gb hdd all for around $400. consoles are not cheaper any more, pc hardware has got much faster since 2006 but it has also go much cheaper. while consoles are still selling for close to the same price as 3 years ago.

You have to ask yourself just how badly you want to play Crysis, considering if you''ve got an old video card that the rest of your setup is probably out of date too. Do you want to spend money on hardware for a game or not? Not unlike consoles, really. If I really wanted to play Uncharted 2, I'd have to ask myself if I wanted to spend the money opn hardware to play it.

until consoles can run games in native 1680 x 1050 or 1080p this means nothing. any mid range gaming pc since 2006 can run every game better than consoles. Right, but if Uncharted 3 comes out on the PS3 I won't have to worry about upgrading anything. I'll just buy the game. With better optimization they'll make the game run better and possibly look better without the need to buy more up to date stuff.

There's holes in your logic, TC. For example, if a game can't run with "max settings" on a console(inFamous-720p, no AA), you're stuck with it like that. At least with the PC you can fix that. On top of that, all games on PC have the potential to run at 1080p+ and have 16xAA, whereas 720p isn't even standard for consoles.

P.S. there's usually and "optimize" button for PC games so you'll automatically get the best config for your fig. Devs also release minimum requirements/benchmarks so you know if your PC can run it before hand...

Same scenario.

Say you're a console gamer and you want to play Crysis.

Why are you playing Crysis at 1080p with 4x AA? And who forced you to buy such a PC? Its expensive because YOU made it expensive...

He's full of crap, he's making up a excuse as to why he's a console gamer which is no reason other than being a noob. i was a console gamer back in n64 era still kinda, i mean i played doom and wolfenstein on pc and but i was still mainly console gamer. i used to think turok on n64 would look better than pc shooters at the time, lol my friend had a 100 mhz pentium gateway pc, i seen my friend playing quake online i was like damn dude consoles do suck lol and graphics of turok werent as good as quake.

The only thing I care about for consoles is exclusives, as for PC it can handle almost everything (multiplats, exclusives, different kinds of processing...etc)

Have fun with your intel accelerated Xbox 9000....ColdfireTrilogy
You make it sound as if technological advacement only happens through pc gaming.

Intel and AMD will always make faster cpus for servers. MS has billions on hand for r&d so if nvidia ever goes broke they could buy the company or hire their own engineers.

The most you could argue is that the envelope won't be pushed as hard, but that is already happening in part because a lot of pc gaming companies have realized that it makes better economic sense to target a wider audience. The sales really aren't there to sustain high-end pc gaming and you can't blame consoles for that.

Honestly, PC's are technically better, yet I still prefer consoles for gaming and PC for everything else, they are just a lot easier to pick up and play the games with no hassle (hopefully, they usually only have catastrophic failures). It just feels more 'right' on a console, for me anyways.

Or you can look at the back of the box and see these two tabs with helpful information.

*Minimum Requirements* and *Recommended Requirements*

I actually always know how well a game will run on my computer before buying it. I don't even have to ask people. I just know because I'm not an idiot.

Then you have the chance of needing to purchase additional or replacement hardware just to run it.

thats why the console version of mass effect runs better than the pc version.. o wait:|:D

this and the fact that game developers design the games to work better both on perfomance and gameplay mechanics, for the console version isntead of pc because of piracy on the pc.
