I wouldn't go with something that old today, 9600GT and whatever ATI equivalent is a 'mainstream card' that pretty much makes a joke of consoles without worrying the wallet.
The art pipeline. Technology has improved, but texturers and modelers still only produce the same amount of work. If you have the money for only 1 or 2 additional FTEs, you can get more bang for the buck right now by putting them in programming (even accounting for how much cheaper artists are). There would have to be something holding games back despite the progress of technology, some sort of lowest common denominator stopping modern shooters from reaching their full potential, I wonder what that could be?

PC Gaming market was only worth $1 billion in the U.S. and 3.8 billion worldwide in 2007. The console gaming market made 17.9 billion in 2007 in the U.S. alone. Worldwide it was 41.9 billion.
So who's the idiot now?

Cheers.
PC gaming dwarfs ANY console. Anybody who tries to combine the total sales of 3 COMPETING consoles immediately fails and they should not be argued with.
Also, MMO/game subscriptions are WAY more than $1 billion for PC. WoW alone brings in $150 million a month.
I believe even a low end PC can outlcass an Xbox 360 and a PS3. Just grab a Core 2 Duo E7200, 8600GT and 2GB of RAM = 200$. that's ALL you need to make your current PC look and play like a console, all games at 30FPS, decent resolution(1366x768) and max graphics(looks 10x better than consoles). If you're reading this message then that means you're on a PC that means you already have a moterboard, case and all other extra parts and the above components make it a quite capable low/mid end PC.nintendog66
Moterboard!? :P LOL Anywho I have a pc...I can upgrade everything but to the core 2 duo...I'm stuck with only pentium 4 or a pentium D. Kinda sucks eh? I see what your doing and it works...making old new. Thats good...but I'm stuck with a 3.00GHz p4 til this computer dies...til them wii60 time

This is completly correct, not only would it do the same but quite a bit more. It would be cappable of higher resolution, more texture detail, more geometry shaders etc.
This isnt my first post in this thread, i was saying how PC is 10000x better but its all in your opinion.
The thing is since you have a PC and everything if you compare a console to a PC you should compare the parts that make is a gaming pc. 1GB RAM = $30. $400 (console) - $30 = $370. $370 can get duel 4850's. one 4850 is much better than an 8800 GT which already WHOOOOPS consoles graphics.
Dont compare PC to consoles, its degradding.
I have CoD 4 on Xbox 360 and PC. They are basically the same when compared from a single player aspect. Beyond the auto lock on xbox 360 anyway. When you go to Multiplayer the differences between the two are quite large.
1. Auto aim is a joke. I don't know how many times I have been aiming at a persons head and then another enemy walks in front of him and my aim goes all over the place.
2. Xbox live is vastly weaker then a PC dedicated server. I sometimes have lag problems based on what person Xbox Live deems host. Not to mention when the host quits it completely stops the game and brings you back to lobby.
3. Xbox lives random map dice roll. It is rediculous that I sit in the lobby after a match and the host quits and it randomly picks a new map. Possibly bringing you right back to the map you just got done playing. Also it immediately starts the map so it gives the people in the lobby almost zero chance to veto.
In general the single player aspect of PC and Xbox 360 are close. In multiplayer I would say Xbox needs to improve their online service because it is seriously lacking compared to PC servers.
