I'm a PC gamer, and the only console I own is a PS2. But I've grown bored of arguing for the PC, so now I'm going to switch teams for a bit. Anyway, the console is better for these reasons:

A console is convenient
You don't have to worry about tweaking anything
You don't have to update drivers
You don't have to worry about conflicting processes such as AVG and Steam
The games are better
The graphics look good and the system only costs $400 bucks
It's cheaper to game on
You can lay on your couch while playing

VoodooGamer

You make good points, the only ones that are wrong or possible incorrect, are:

"The games are better" - This is completely subjective, and is in fact the other way around for me.

"The graphics look good and the system only costs $400 bucks" - You can build a more powerful PC for $400, so the price is moot. Unless we are talking arcade 360.

"You can lay on your couch while playing" - My PC is set up the same way as my consoles, and I sit on the same couch.

The rest are just a trade-off for added advantages, such as higher rez, better graphics, better control scheme (subjective) using controller or KB/M, mods etc etc.

Some good points, some bad points.

Better games = Subjective.

Cheaper to game on = depends.

400bucks = the cheapest is now 200.

PC plays all games of the past, often with upgrades (like re-texture packs and such), as well as having the best version of every multiplat, tweaking, updating, conflicting is an issue of less then 1% occurence rate, it takes seconds to update IF you need to, and now several consoles games have patches and updating too. Tweaking is optional, and its more like to run a newer game on an older machine, You can build a pretty damn good PC for about $500, it might not very high crysis on some crazy resolution, but should be able to do just about everything else. Also Mods, adding 2,3,4x as much content to a game, or more, I used over 20 mods in Oblivion to make it playable as it was far too "consolized".

This is getting tedious...

Much of what console users consider disadvantages on PC are seen as advantages to PC gamers, stuff requires more effort but that's because there are more options available to you.

PC gamers perform trade offs for their benefits, trading convenience for freedom. If you just state convenience on consoles and take no note of the sacrifices you have to make to achieve that convenience; then you never appreciated what PC has to offer in the first place.

That said the truthfulness of much of what the OP said is debatable.

mods make every multiplat game better the games are far better (demigod, neverwinter nights, Diablo 2, Audiosurf) better graphics the best online comminities dedicates servers with admins to keep problem makers and rage kids out and they have NO LAG(key factor here) you lay on a couch to play games? i can lay in my far more comfortable bed and play backwards compatibility further back than 1 generation, i can play games from the early 90s with minimal effort

I wonder how many people will come in here without reading the first line in your OP. Anyway, alot of those are opinion, some are try some aren't, the thing that it comes down to is.

1. PC can play ALL its games

2. PC has the best visuals and the best multiplats (most of the time)

3. PC has cheaper games

4. PC has the MOST and most AAA/AA exclusives of any system

5. PC has the most unique control options and mods to both change how you play a game and how much value you get from one

Dunno if I am forgetting anything.

Welcome. I too used to be a hermit, but after spendign more time tweaking than playing I went to consoles. And just about every time I go back to PC gaming (for a one-off game...I'm reminded of why I left). Two examples: Dawn of War: Platinum pack...I tried to install it but it wouldn't install properly. Had to hack it to install and live with the error messages at startup. Many people on the Internet had the same issue and work-around. 2nd example: DemiGods...read their forums...need I say more? Having said that...the games are fun once they get running but dang the dedication it takes. Plus one more thing I like about consoles...everyone is on an even playing field for the most part. Unless you play street fighter with a special stick almost all games are played with the 1st party controller so you don't feel the need to spend $100 for a little edge in the game. Plus using ASDW to move is just stupid and unnatural.

The fact that this person logged right after posting this thread suggests he's just trying to spark a flame war for laughs. Some of the items in his list are simply subjective or outright wrong, it wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't a serious thread.

The people outright agreeing with him need to read his list better, that or quit being ignorant.

Consoles are a much better all around gaming solution if you ask me. Computers have many other uses and that's why we all have one. Some PC games are good but to be dedicated to only playing PC games is just limiting yourself.

PC > Console. I proved you wrong. - Even though I personally prefer consoles, saying one is better than the other is simply arrogant. It's a matter of preference. One might be more powerful, have more accurate controls, have better online, but in the end, it comes down to which one you enjoy the most. For me, that's my 360. For others, it can be PS3, Wii, PC, or any other aming platform.

A console is convenient
Having a PC running correctly isn't exactly rocket science either.
You don't have to worry about tweaking anything
I never do any tweaking with any of my games other than setting all settings to "High".
You don't have to update drivers
That takes like 10 minutes and only happens like twice a year.
You don't have to worry about conflicting processes such as AVG and Steam
Never run into any problems with that.
The games are better
Debatable, although a lot of multiplats are on the PC, which makes this a weak point.
The graphics look good and the system only costs $400 bucks
PCs don't cost much more than that nowadays, and the graphics are better.
It's cheaper to game on
The games are ten dollars more expensive at launch and don't go down in price nearly as fast.
You can lay on your couch while playing
You can do this with a PC, too, if it's hooked up to your livingroom TV. Besides, you can get awesome chairs which are just as comfy as couches.

In terms of games that are appealing to the masses the consoles offers a much better all around gaming solution. Yes you can't play Empire total War unless you stick a video card into your desktop PC but that game isn't that appealing.

Me too, but it's all garbage (the responses that is). Let's see you try to game and be competitive on a PC game while laying on your sofa. In regards to updating drivers...pretty much whenever you buy a cutting edge game I find I need to update my drivers (although it has gotten a bit better the last couple years). Yes you do need t tweak...if your FPS isn't what you want then it becomes a game of which graphic goody when turned off has the best bang for the buck (higher FPS) wiht least eyecandy impact.

No, I don't need to tweak. Stuff like BioShock, Far Cry 2, FEAR 2, etc. ran perfectly fine on my computer on all highest settings with no tweaking required. The only exception was Crysis, where I had to turn like 3 settings down to Medium to get it to run fine. Plus, all this stuff really only applies to shooters. You can still get tons of great games like RTS, Turn Based Strategy, Adventure, Puzzler, Casual Games, etc. that don't need uber-hardware at all.

Oh, and BTW, I'm sure you already know this, but you can use a controller with a PC, so you can play it on the couch the same way you would as with a console.

clearly having the most AAAE and AAE by far and having virtually every genre in existence not to mention being able to play even the oldenst games is limiting yourself more than a little box that can only play games from it and MAYBE the one before it. and having to rebuy everything older than that to work on it. not to mention the freedom of doing many many other things like streaming music(while playing games) without having to deal with a terrible interface to load different albums. yep just so much more limited. i think jamex is right we should all quit pc gaming cus its just to free. we clearly cant compete on a game scale because there is just so many other things we can do on it

Jamex1987

You mean it is not appealing to you, you cannot make sweeping statements about the overall appeal of a game because of your personal preference.

That said even if you consider it the case, I'd rather be on a platform that doesn't appeal to the masses. The masses take games like Morrowind and Deus Ex and turn them into over accessible bland crap.

Of course! I never said anything about SW being bad or anything. It's just pointless with this so called "System War". The board itself is awesome and there are some extremely high-quality posters that I enjoy their posts.

1)on convenience.....very overrated. what it lacks in convenience, it more than makes up for with capability. 2)u mention tweaking like its a bad thing. tweaking is good...tweaking allows us to improve games. tweaking allows us to fix performance issues. if a game on a console has dodgy performance....tough. suck it up. on a PC....u can do something about it. 3) on consoles u do have to update the OS...and its more intrusive than on the PC (u cant do anything while its updating). then theres the patches that consoles get (except the wii). besides, like tweaking, driver updates are good....it allows for performance improvements and fixes to graphical glitches after the games release. 4)on conflicting processes.....fair enough. but its very very rare to happen on the PC. im sure there are plenty of forum posts about X not workign with Y but in the grand scheme of things, thats a very small percentage. 5) subjective on games and i completly disagree. as well as getting the better version of most multiplats, the PCs exclusive are formidable to say the least. games like empire total war are something special. 6) no disagreement on looks...console games do look good. not as good as they do on a suitably speced PC but good. 7) on price: whats that old saying that PS3 fans like to use when comparing the 360 and PS3, or 360 fans like to use when comparing online services. oh yea..u get what u pay for. although with the price difference in PC and console games getting quite big (25 euro big in some cases here, brand spanking new) thats becoming a grey area. 8) on the couch....preference i know but i hate gaming laying back on a couch. it disrupts concentration. i prefer to be sitting forward, pretty close to the screen and paying attention to whats happening.

PC gaming >>> Console gaming imo, and ive owned almost every console since atari/nes.

- Pc gaming has tons of user made mods that are awesome

- MORE OPTIONS for controls!! (ps1,ps2, ps3, xbox360,etc.. controllers you can use), plus keyboard and mouse

- MUCH better graphics and sound quality, because of MUCH better graphics cards and much better sound cards then what consoles have

- Easyier to fix a problem on a pc (spend 30$ on a new stick of ram,etc..).

- The biggest and best selection of older games.

- The best online by miles

- MUCH better version of multiplat games

consoles you gotta get up pop in disk and if you want to play a different game you gotta get up and change disk. while on pc once it's installed you dont need the disk, i lay down in my bed using 360 controller for crysis and ut3 and other games, but my mouse cursor is the analog lol, i dont have to get up to change disk or anything. console gaming is pointless except for exclusives they arent more convient.

Consoles are a much better all around gaming solution if you ask me. Computers have many other uses and that's why we all have one. Some PC games are good but to be dedicated to only playing PC games is just limiting yourself. Jamex1987

LOL @ limiting yourself by beign a pc gamer haha, what a joke!

You limit yourself by ONLY playing on consoles, why not both?

So being dedicated to console gaming isn't just as limiting?

clearly having the most AAAE and AAE by far and having virtually every genre in existence not to mention being able to play even the oldenst games is limiting yourself more than a little box that can only play games from it and MAYBE the one before it. and having to rebuy everything older than that to work on it. not to mention the freedom of doing many many other things like streaming music(while playing games) without having to deal with a terrible interface to load different albums. yep just so much more limited. i think jamex is right we should all quit pc gaming cus its just to free. we clearly cant compete on a game scale because there is just so many other things we can do on it

Find me some good sports games on PC an don't tell me NBA 2k9 which is a gimped version of the Xbox version. PES though I never played it seems to be the only sports games being released for PC that isn't significantly gimped. I can't wait to play Fight Night round 4! When was the last PC boxing game? Limiting yourself to Pc games might not be a bad thing if you consifer yourself a 'hermit'with no friends that come over because 2 player on PC isn't exactly popular.

Let's try to see you game competitively laying on a sofa in general.....and you need to update your drivers on any cuttign edge game? , I've been using the same drivers that came with my 8800 two years ago. Also you don't need to tweak, you can tweak if you want but most games come with something called auto settings /gasp

Espada12

1st you said MOST not all...so you do agree with me. 2nd gaming on a mid-range PC or laptop does require tweaking if you want to get the most out of your gaming experience...I guess if you didn't care about graphics too much you could just get a console.

This is quite a bit of a misconception here. Heck, as is, most modern consoles have a relatively limited number of localized multiplayer games, and splitscreen gaming is going down the drain. Not to mention LANs for PC gaming number in the tens to thousands. You can still have a large group of friends while you play PC gaming.

[QUOTE="stiltzsy"]Yes you do need t tweak...if your FPS isn't what you want then it becomes a game of which graphic goody when turned off has the best bang for the buck (higher FPS) wiht least eyecandy impact.MetroidPrimePwn

Well that's YOUR computer...but there are millions of PCs where this is NOT the case. But in console land...it's always the case.
