Could GTA V be successful if the lead was female?

Well if they had the resources they could make the lead being either female or male, with slight variations in storyline events, kinda like what they had in persona3portable, except on a larger scale.

Only if you could use prostitutes.

And on a serious note, the Saints Row games pull of the concept of a female protagonist kind of well, plus Asuka and Catalina from GTA III and San Andreas were pretty insane criminals who showed you could probably get a crazy girl criminal who can get to the top of the ranks in a crime syndicate.

I hope the main character is British, however unlikely that is.

Wouldn't work for me, I would cringe everytime my female character tried to be a badass. If a female character tried to push around a mob boss with all his male goons, she would end up... Lets just say it wouldn't be pretty.

I assume if it was a female lead, they wouldn't just plug her into all the exact same situations as they have for male characters.

Are you saying you relate to down on their luck immigrants like Niko from GTA4? Or impoverished gangsters like SA? Or just out of jail mobsters like VC?

What about other games? You relate to Master Chief? Nathan Drake? Mario? Based on what? Your worldly adventures of daring do?

Videogames are fantasy. If you are willing to overlook all the completely fantastical elements in games except for the sex of the main character in a STORY driven game like GTA, then you have bigger issues I think.

THis kind of response is why I love system wars. It doesn't get better than this for laughs.

You can relate to a 7 foot tall dude in space armor that can base jump from outer orbit, but a chick that can kick ass? That's completely unbelievable.

Not to mention there are dozens of games and movies with badass chick that are successful.

I have zero problems with it and it might be a refreshing change but considering gta models are usually horrible the woman would end up looking like a man anyway

If it's true that the game has multiple protagonists, i can't see why they wouldn't include a female character.

I think the Grand Theft Auto series should do what the Mass Effect series does: have the option to be either male or female.
