Valve has canned their plans to put cross-platform gaming for Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Their reason being that the PS3 would hinder the updating towards perfection process of the overall game. When gamers start finding problems in the game, Valve can easily update the game instantly on PC and Mac. If they put the PS3 into the mix, that would slow down the process by two weeks per patch [and cost Valve tons of money].

Statement Below:

"The beta has proved we want to update not just the beta, but the game itself post-launch frequently on the PC," Valve's Chet Faliszek revealed to Joystiq. "To do that we need to separate the platforms so one doesn't hamstring the other. So for that, we have removed the idea of cross-platform play -- essentially make all platforms stronger by not mixing them."

Because the PS3 has KB/M functionality, it may not be too bad. If it was just controller, then yes they would be dominated :P.

Here is an idea. Release the game finished and fully tested. Then you dont have to worry about loads of patches. Just a thought....

Only 1% of the ps3 players would play with the kb/m anyway its too intrusive, for me anyway, to play with kb/m with a console.

Seeing as its Valve and they update games with free stuff all the time, they get a pass on this one.

Not really. Hardcore pc players yes, but people who are masters of analog sticks would own the majority of pc players with k/m. Hardcore pc players with k/m > console players who masters of analog aiming > majority of pc players with k/m > majority of console players with analog

Let us be in Beta testing for years before we release a game. Yes makes sense. /s

Valve already polishes their games more than most developers. Even then, games will have some annoyance and minor bugs. In addition, Valve might want to release content quite frequently and test out different things and see how the community reacts. This kind of process would not work on consoles.

Considering the amount of things TF2 has had added to it over the years this is the logical step. If you can't update and give people an improved game with more features easily on PSN, then why handicap those who they can.

According to Microsoft's tests, average PC gamers with K/M vastly out match the very best console players with analog sticks. To compete with K/M, you need K/M. Analog sticks will only cut it against the completely incompetent K/M users.

After researching this idea a few weeks back, I never found any information on options to filter matches, like playing against PS3 only players if you wanted, so this isn't really a bad thing. If there ultimately had ended up being no way to filter games, PC/Mac integration for cross-platform play could have been a potential nightmare.

It was a stupid idea anyway. They most likely noticed the difference between kb/m and gamepad was to big to balance.

Probably just didn't want to get all of the hate mail from the PS3 players after getting stomped in match after match. I don't think they have any idea about the level of skill that some Counterstrike players have. I used to play that game all the time years ago. People take that game really seriously.

I have beaten many pc players at SHadowrun with analog sticks. I am not doubting mouse keyboard is far better, but majority of pc gamers arent that good with it.

What is this......needing to win at a game to enjoy it? Has multiplayer gaming turned into win or its a sh!t game? The k/m arguers are suggesting that it would be no fun playing with people with differing control inputs.... I feel sorry for you if you need to win at a game to enjoy it...really I do.

CS is a competitive game and people naturally want to win. It's just like dota or competitive fighting games.

I have no idea what that game is, a quick google tells me it is an RPG probably with some sort of autolock/aim assist on consoles.

Like I said, an average PC gamer on a K/M beats the very best analog stick users in a straight up fight in any FPS. Microsoft have tested it.

Shadowrun was microsofts original attempt at cross platform FPS between 360 and PC.

you would last 4 seconds in an arena with a mid level competent pc player. aim assist is hiding your flaws in your precious KZ3 and codmw3.. you would literally place 50-100% worse than anyone with a keyboard and mouse

Again it's mostly because these are competitive games, it's the same feeling people get when they lose at a football game or a basketball game. It's a game yes but people are competitive so they get angry and part of enjoying the game is winning. Nothing to feel sorry about, that's just human nature.

I would say that I can have fun if I lose a competitive game, if it's a good, close round/game--i'd be disappointed but still have fun. But just getting stomped and completely steam rolled is not fun

I'd say the same is true for me in most games but DOTA for some reason brings the hulk out in everyone. I don't know what it is but that game is extremely rage inducing.

Oh thank god. Having to verify every patch and go through PSNs hoops would have been painful Valve as the dev since they release tonnes and tonnes of small patches. I always have horrible luck and usually end up on the bad team in CS and with PS3 people thrown into the mix chances are I'd be the only one on my team with a mouse. Then again if I were against the PS3 folk it would be really good for my kd...

That, as a customer, is not my concern.

As I said, Valve are about the only dev that can get a pass for this, due to free updates of worthy game content. Its still disapointing though, as it doesnt read like its anything to do with free content, and more to do with fixing the game after release. Thats certainly how it comes across.

I'm saying that's just a natural thing. So there's no need to be sorry for people that are like that.

[QUOTE="markop2003"][QUOTE="BibiMaghoo"]Here is an idea. Release the game finished and fully tested. Then you dont have to worry about loads of patches. Just a thought....BibiMaghoo

You do know how much it costs to make a piece of software that reliable right? The most reliable software in the world are emergency services phone exchanges and they're still not 100% reliable.

That, as a customer, is not my concern.

As I said, Valve are about the only dev that can get a pass for this, due to free updates of worthy game content. Its still disapointing though, as it doesnt read like its anything to do with free content, and more to do with fixing the game after release. Thats certainly how it comes across.

Valve rarely puts out something buggy, except for the original Steam :P but it's hard to test for everything ridiculous people will do in games, even in beta testing. But based on TF2 it seems valve puts out a lot of small patches that "fix" things I didnt even know were problems, or even heard about. So it might be these little fixes they put out along with added content

[QUOTE="iamrob7"]

[QUOTE="reach3"] I have beaten many pc players at SHadowrun with analog sticks. I am not doubting mouse keyboard is far better, but majority of pc gamers arent that good with it.lostrib

Shadowrun is a terrible example because it was a game that was a straight port from consoles to even the field. Aim assist does not help kb/m players it slows them down and hinders precision.

I think PC players still did better, but I dont think that game really lasted very long
