Gears of War 2 was released a year ago. The original Gears of War was released way before that. So the expectations change over time. You can't just create a 'me too' game where you grab all the best features from all the games that are over a year old and expect to get the same score a year later for those same features.

Note: Gears of War 2 scored 9.5, UC2 scored 9.3

There are no risks associated with that game at all. They played it completely safe. They took things that they knew were accepted and people loved and build it into one game. And that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that. But you can't expect a score of a 9.8 or a 9.5 and higher if you're doing something like that.

I agree with him from what I've played, the game is generic -- but it's fun.

i find this just ridiculous. i really enjoyed uncharted, and will be buying uncharted 2 on the first day, but complaining about something that is pretty much AAA across the board is unnecessary.

I forget how the quote goes, but as time goes on the standards get higher or something.

So an for example, if Uncharted 2 was reviewed a year ago, before Gears 2 came out, the score would have been higher then if it was recently reviewed, like it was.

well i'm not in favor of reviews that don't give a little extra bump in score due to "originality".. but at the same time i'm not a fond of cry babies (which from experience, it's the majority of ps3 fans)

So if CODMW2 gets higher then a 9.3 then is it going back on thier word? Cause I mean MW2 still looks like a blast,but doesint really look orginal.

The score is fine, the only thing that pisses me off is that he has to talk about the game "not being original". Halo 3 wasn't close to original but it got 9.8... so in other words, he's just making garbage up. In fact, most of the games that score really high on there AREN'T original at all.Messiahbolical-

Why is this even an issue? Who cares? It's a great score to begin with but even if it wasn't, why on earth would you ever seriously be offended by the opinion and score of a reviewer or anyone else for that matter?

It's possible to have other flaws as well other than just lack of originality. I don't know if they deducted any points because of this, but I remember him stating that the A.I was moronic while talking about the stealth element in the game. Just an example..WhyS

Seriously,who cares if one site gives a game a bad review,when it's getting positive feedback from the majority of others? And in this case,it was actually an excellent score.But people still whine about it...

I think noone is speaking about igns review because they didint constally say NOT ORIGINAL and TAKES FROM OTHER GAMES and counting it as a big negative. Gears 1 and 2 didint feel orginal cause well it didint invent the cover system.

I wonder if we will ever see the day when we can experience all the enjoyment from a game just by reading it's review. It sure as hell would spare us a lot of time not to mention the trouble actually playing the games.
