Well, we're 6 months into this console war and the Wii is dominating MS and Sony so concisely that the mainsteam media seems assured in Nintendo's victory. Amidst the hundred's of articles citing the Wii incredible success that literally pollute news stands around the globe, in the past week, the Wii's victory has been trumpeted on the cover of 2 major magazine's (EDGE and Fortune), and to be perfectly honest with you, it's going to take nothing short of a miracle for MS and Sony to stop Nintendo this generation.

Whether or not you agree with these proclamations, this kind of exposure and publicity alone... is very, very, good for the Wii. Claims of the Wii's victory heralded on the cover's of major magazines will only contribute to the Wii's success and bring it closer to that reality. You see, the Wii is already winning the most most important part of any console war...

the war of public perception ;)

Wii wins and that signals the end of our beloved games industry as we once knew it, it will officially be overrun by casuals. Thanks Nintendo.

Where were you this last gen? The industry is already over run by casuals... I mean how else do you explain the sales of the Sims, and games like Cars.

it does confuse me that people are trying to declare winners of a possible 10 year war in the first year.  by all means speculate and give your oppinion, but stop stating it as fact.

who knows, all I know is Nintendo is the ones screaming that we need to expand the market.  They want your Grandma and Grandpa, without any idea what they are doing, to be able to pick up and play.  Sounds like the peak of casual gaming to me.  Heck I didn't know anything was wrong with the market.  Nintendo does not care about gamers like fans want you to believe.  When was the last time Nintendo sold you a console where they had to take a loss?  Try never, they always profit and they are never willing to give gamers anything.  Hell Ninty has to be forced into things that should be standard like online gaming.

Nintendo hasn't won... yet.  I believe they have an incredibly good shot at winning however, as long as they don't mess it up.

Reading replies as "The media suxorz" and "Crystall ball ftw!" makes me think that you're all missing the point. It's not important wether they're right or not. I completely agree that it's far too early.

The point is, and I think the TC was trying to say this too, is that by having the main stream media put so much attention to the wii, nintendo is a small step closer to REALLY winning the war. If gamespot or IGN declare the wii a winner, it won't mean squat. No impact what so ever. Just like the PS2 has shown us last gen: Casuals hold the key to victory.

The Fortune mag title should really be "How Wii Are Winning."  Nobody has won, yet... although Nintendo's success is worth noting since they haven't been on top of the gaming world since the early 90's back when 16-bit systems roamed the earth.

The Wii is currently leading the pack, but wait a couple years down the line and Sony will own the competition. Besides, 3rd party devs still can't make a good Wii game, theres nothing some dinky little magazine can do to help that.

It's too early to declare a winner. All consoles will do fine but in the long run the PS3 has the edge, imo.lusitanogamer

wii fad will die out.

gears halo will keep fan base of 360 there.

the sony fan base is bigger(ps2)

ps3 has the edge

Wii has won. It has won in a market where the only conosle involved is.....The wii. Sorry but wii is so different from 360/PS3 it's not even in the SAME RACE. To say it is would be ignorant as the experience being offered is far too different unlike previous generations.

Hardcore gamers know this, however the masses that have deemed the Wii the winner, including the media, do not. Marketing has shown no differentiation in Nintendo bowing out. It still is the same race, even if technically its not. It IS hindering the sales of the other consoles, while turning an AMAZING profit. Thats all that matters in the real world.

You're kidding... right? :|

Why do you ask that? Is it so hard to believe?

You better be more open minded than that and look more into the future or else you might be in for a big disappointment.

The PS3 is falling further and further behind with each passing moment. You speak of pipe dreams.

Calling the war after 7 months is a pipe dream. Especially when your calling the war for a console that isn't in first place.

The Wii is wiping the floor with the 360 in every regard when it comes to consumer response save for overall sales, which at this point is just a formailty as the 360 has been out a year longer and for all intensive purposes has only enjoyed lukewarm sales throughout its lifespan, lets not pretend otherwise ;)

The wii is in a very good position, and I think it has a strong chance of winning the console war because of its mainstream appeal. I am just saying that it is way way too early to call the war before all the companies bring out their big guns, we still have years to go before the console war is truly over.

yeah!

The 360 still has Halo 3 and Halo Wars coming out, and the PS3 still has MGS4 coming out. The Wii only had Twilight Princess going for it and that already came out. Unless Nintendo can pull a miracle out their ass, they've already lost the war.

MS and Sony have totally pwned Nintendo.

While i think the wii will win, the console war isnt close to being over yet. FF13 and MGS4 havent come out yet, which im assuming will be system sellers. Nintendo hasnt released super mario galaxy, metroid prime 3, or Super Smash Bros Brawl. Microsoft hasnt released Halo3. All these games will be system sellers. We can only wait to see who will win.

You still don't get it, do you?  Once you've established an image for your console, it's damn near IMPOSSIBLE to change it, and right now, the PS3's image screams "don't buy me".  Just ask Nintendo about the GC and N64's kiddie image.

I said it before and will say it again. PS3 will win this war.

The Wii maybe second or third depending on how good the 360 plays it. Mind you anyone can win really depending on what they do but to me the PS3 will just barely win this Gen in the end.

I personally think the Wii wont last too long. IN about two or three years the games coming out on the 360 and PS3 will be really distancing itself from the Wii so much so that casuals will greatly notice it. The Wii love over the Wiimote will die out in time and the price drops will happen with the PS3 and 360 as well making them more casual friendly choices.

Declaring a winner this early when this gen hasn't really even started in terms of next gen games for real is a joke. I think these upcoming holidays is the true begining with Halo3 and other next gen games, maybe MGS4 too I don't know

I speak (and write!) English, but apparently you have trouble with it.  Declaring a winner is an ambiguous phrase that can either mean an official statement that someone has won, or simply an emphatic statement that someone will win.

If you meant specifically one and not the other, it was your responsibility to communicate your meaning clearly.  Instead, you used an ambiguous phrasing that left your meaning unclear.  Do not jump my case over the appearance of contradiction that you created - I merely brought it to your attention.

a bit premature imho. still ninty cant buy that kind of publicity (well they could possibly but the scandal would be terrible :P). if more articles start popping up with similar subjects then consumer confidence can only go up for the machine and down for the others. i havent seen the article yet in edge but im very surprised that they are even having this type of thing in their mag so far. the deal breaker for me though is a mag called games. theyll smack any company (ive seen issues where they redicule all 3 in 1 article....impressive :P). if they also start declaring winners then its all over (well not really)

Or maybe it's your job to pay more attention to what's going on in the world.  Semantics aside, declaring that the Wii has won is correct and good common sense, if a little bit behind the times.  Predicting that the PS3 will win is a joke.

DO those magazines acknowledge the ABYSMAL quality of wii games??????????????

only nintendo won (money), we gamers are receiving CRAP after CRAP on the wii

Warfust

Nintendo brings gaming 10 years back, not only all REAL gamers on earth hope they close doors, but i hope all magazines-sites supporting them close doors too

ANd what are we celebrating exactly? The fact that they bring gaming 10 years back in environments/graphics in games, the 99% bad quality games, the 250$ steal for a 50$ hardware, the gmmick controller that they stoped using at all in new games, or that my grandpa took up gaming, and has killed out cat playing Wii bowling ?

Wow I had hoped you were banned permanently. It doesn't take gaming back 10 years. It moves it forward technically, just not as much as PS3/360 did. The games aren't that bad, and just like with the 360 and the PS3 it takes time to build a quality game library.

I would go as far to say it greatly surpassed the 360, and heavily surpassed the PS3 as far as advancement in controls goes. They also raised the bar on immersion, a field that only Sony is also playing on.

They didn't push graphics, though leading that didn't help them at ALL last gen did it?

Immersion = graphics and huge worlds, not gimmick controls

 Sheep  and thier precious insecure sales ramblings

They can have all the sales and non-gaming casuals for all I care. There are other platforms to enjoy 3rd party gaming ;) Something the Wii will rarely have.

At the rate things are going, in 2-3 years Wii will have the lions share of third party support, cost $99.99, and the PS3 and 360 will have taken such a battering in terms of public perception and fall so far behind in terms of sales that the Wii will continue to dominate this generation. Things are not going to magically get better all of a sudden for the 360/PS3 in a few years... that's not how console wars work. The Wii, simply put, has much more consumer/casual appeal than both of those two consoles can ever hope to... and that's something that won't change.

Did you read what this thread is about? It's about claiming the Wii has won already. I dont need to communicate which I meant when the thread is about the Wii being the "winner of this console war" already. Maybe it's your job to read the threads you post in and its titles

Or maybe it's your job to pay more attention to what's going on in the world. Semantics aside, declaring that the Wii has won is correct and good common sense, if a little bit behind the times. Predicting that the PS3 will win is a joke.

I already explained why I think they will win and just barely as I said. I don't just look at sales at the current time. I guess that's your genius way of finding a winner in the end. Bravo.

The Wii and it's Wiimote won't last for five years or more. I think it will die out in about 2-3 years. Again as I said earlier the games will begin to really distance themselves for 360/PS3 in terms of graphics and more in about 2-3 years in which casuals will notice. The PS3's price has nowhere to go but down as well as the 360's while the Wii can go down but it can only do so by so much being that's it' already the lowest price.

On top of that both other consoles haven't really had heavy hitters aside from the surprise heavy hitter that is now Gears of War.

When you look at the future of something you don't just look at current figures and guess that will continue for years and be done with it.

I mean didn't the Gamecube lead in sales at the beginning and then wind up last?

The Wii won't win IMO but that doesn't mean it will be beat like last gen. I said it wlll be a very close race this time with the PS3 barely winning.

Also declairing anything has already won this early into a race is beyond basic logic, especially when we are talking about the entertainment industry, an industry in which just about most companies are wrong in predicting. There are too many factors to say there's a winner already this early.

You just clearly demonstrated your lack of knowledge about this industry and made a mockery of your post.
