The Wii and it's Wiimote won't last for five years or more. I think it will die out in about 2-3 years. Again as I said earlier the games will begin to really distance themselves for 360/PS3 in terms of graphics and more in about 2-3 years in which casuals will notice. The PS3's price has nowhere to go but down as well as the 360's while the Wii can go down but it can only do so by so much being that's it' already the lowest price.

On top of that both other consoles haven't really had heavy hitters aside from the surprise heavy hitter that is now Gears of War.

When you look at the future of something you don't just look at current figures and guess that will continue for years and be done with it.

Amidst the hundred's of articles citing the Wii incredible success that literally pollute news stands around the globe, in the past week, the Wii's victory has been trumpeted on the cover of 2 major magazine's (EDGE and Fortune), and to be perfectly honest with you, it's going to take nothing short of a miracle for MS and Sony to stop Nintendo this generation.

Whether or not you agree with these proclamations, this kind of exposure and publicity alone... is very, very, good for the Wii. HDTV's make up like 25% of the TV market today. By 2009, SDTV's will be obsolete because analog TV will no longer be televised. More HDTV's in the home = more Blu-Ray sales, more PS3 sales, and more 360 sales.

HDTV sales will undoubtedly increase albeit slowly. But the Wii can be played on a HDTV and most casuals see it as far more exciting than the PS3 or 360. In the long run graphics matter less than public eprception and software. The wii has public perception and cawsual software covered so it will win (sorry fanboy). what it doesn't have is quality software of the kind gamers required which will be very important if it is to lure gamers away from the 360

Perhaps you should also mention devs like Konami that have shifted focus to the PSP after having watching their excellent games get outsold by Super Princess Peach. Teufelhuhn

and Konami titles have done very well actually all things considered. Lunar Knights was great but was still essentially a GBA game. Castlevania is the definition of hardcore and it has had very respectable sales (around 300k i think) which is great. Konami have never shifted support to the PSP, they've always supported the PSP. compare the production values of MGS and Silent hill to the crap they put out on the DS. It's coming back to bite them in the ass now though since nobody is buying games for the failed handheld anymore. They like many other developers are going to have to adapt or die

As for super princess peach outselling konami games, that's nothing to be ashamed of. It is after all a first party Nintendo title marketed at females and it is on a console that has a very diverse mix of owners. At least their games actually sell on the DS, it is after all the superior handheld

Sales trends at the current time is the correct way to predict the console war's outcome.  In every previous generation, a prediction made based on the sales trends 6 months after all consoles were on the market would predict the eventual winner.  It's not genius, merely correct.

That doesn't matter.  The Wii is below the mass-market price threshhold now.  By the time either competitor reaches that point, the Wii will have established itself as the dominant victor - at which point it would outsell its competitors even if they were cheaper.

Actually, in the console industry you look at current figures and extrapolate based on the firm historical pattern that sales trends only diverge further and further.  The industry is entirely centered around momentum, so in the future Wii is likely to be outselling its competition to an even greater degree.

Tell that to Sony.  They predicted that the PS2 would be the dominant victor at this same point in the last generation, for the same reasons that I am now predicting that the Wii will be the dominant victor in this generation.  They were correct at that time and I am correct at this time.

Only one factor is truly relevant - sales momentum.

WOW really? ok  Halo 3 looks just like halo 2 but with shinier graphics, gta4 = gta3 with better graphics, god of war 3 = just another GOD 2 update thats it!! :D MASS EFFECT? hasnt been proven ... wow thats such a great system seller, im sure MASS EFFECT will move millions of systems haha

I wouldn't necessarily say the war is over-- in fact when was the last time the media or journalists in general ever right about the winner? When the PlayStation debuted, everyone thought the Nintendo 64 would totally destroy it, yet the PlayStation sold the most units in it's respective generation. Or how just last generation? Everyone thought Microsoft and Nintendo would keep it close-- only to be totally annhilated by Sony.

I know things look quite grim for Sony, but it's not even fare to compare when it hasn't had any of it's heavyweights come out yet. I don't think the Xbox 360 will win(sadly, its a great console), just because it's in a deeper hole than the Xbox was in Japan. I will however say the Xbox 360 will gain larger market sales.

Hardcore gamers know this, however the masses that have deemed the Wii the winner, including the media, do not. Marketing has shown no differentiation in Nintendo bowing out. It still is the same race, even if technically its not. It IS hindering the sales of the other consoles, while turning an AMAZING profit. Thats all that matters in the real world.

I don't feel forgotten by Nintendo, actually. TP was nothing short of amazing, much better than WW, SPM was definitely a great game, and we've got MP3, Mario Galaxy, and Brawl on the horizon. So what if they've released games like Wii Play and Wii Sports for the nongamers, much like the DS, I'm getting exactly what I want with the option of having fun with so-called "non-games" as well. If anything, the Gamecube is when Nintendo fans got hosed, not the Wii.

1) HDTV's aren't the norm yet

2) It appeals to Joe Consumer

The people writing these articles probably don't even play games so it's no wonder they think Wii is the winner after 6 months lol.

I brought up MS because you implied they developed games for the PSP before they made DS games. Sony is their #1 enemy, they would make DS games regardless of sales.

And as for Konami, surely their PSP sales aren't poor otherwise they wouldn't still be developing for it (and moving franchises like Castlevania over from DS). :wink:Teufelhuhn

My mistake, a few of those developers were those who had always focused on the DS more than the PSP. But the point remains, DS third party support >>>>PSP third party support.

As for "moving" castlevania of the PSP, i dont see how porting/remaking some old castlevania games counts as a betrayal in any way. You can bet your bottom dollar that the DS will be getting all the new castlevania games. Igarishi has publicly stated that the castlevania team think that the PSP is pretty crap.  and I doubt that many DS fans are upset, after al we're not really into ports ;)

As for PSP software sales , you dont have to be a genius to realsie that they're actually pretty mediocre. There are still barely any million sellers on the machine (i think that there are only about 5) and the bests selling game is still a multiplat GTA spinoff that isn't very good. In contrast DS sales have never been healthier
