We already know the game will take place in New York, but according to the developer, it'll be "a New York City like none in games or cinema." Crytek is more interested in having the city environment act as a focus on the action rather than a big open sandbox, so while you'll see lots of the city above, you'll only be able to travel in "constrained freedom," or only about "three storeys up and down."

The magazine also contains info about the new Nanosuit 2, which seems to augment not only your physical powers, but sensory perception in various modes as well, giving you the ability to hear conversations at a distance or see directional bullet trails or x-rays. The suit can also increase your powers of memory, apparently, as the devs promise the game should have "five big things you'll remember forever."Joystiq

Sounding interesting. The restricted environment is unfortunate but predictable.

It's not even going to be completely linear, just sectioned like the first game.

Until we see some videos, we don't really know how open it will be. Some reports are saying it offers more varied play styles and freedom.

Well you didn't actually think Crytek would be able to render that many floors on a building.

Yeah, like that preview where they played a demonstration of the beginning of the game saying that they played it multiple times completely differently. That raised my hype.

I regret having Crysis 2 come to consoles. The least they could do is put Crysis 1 on consoles first.

After the experience Crysis gives yeah. I couldn't even finish MW2 it was so boring. Just feels artificial, go to this area and kill these guys, everything feels so set up and constructed.

Something can be "set up and constructed" and not boring (like the MW2 campaign).

Not having the original Crysis on consoles was a big monetary mistake for those guys. They would have made much more money. But EH Ill probably get flamed by Hermz.

I can't wait for this game. However, I wish this one was PC exclusive so Crytek could focus all their attention on it. Maybe bring it to consoles AFTER its release.

I wouldn't call it "dumbing down" because that implies that consoles and their users are too stupid to fully play and understand the workings of a PC exclusive. What Crytech is doing is more like tweaking the game.

Stop downplaying it, we are going from a massive environment to what they are admitting is a confined environment, whether you think it matters doesn't change that.

My bad. I thought it was more people bashing the consoles over lowering the graphic standards. I lose one smart point. But the game isn't completely linear. You'll still be able free roam and all that good stuff just a little bit less. People will still likke the game regardless.

I just don't like seeing progress go backwards, so excuse me if I sound irritated.

There are people on this forum that rationalize PC capability is invalid, with all that matters happening to land right on console capability. The people trying to down play the significance of these changes remind me of them.

I don't know why people are calling it dumbed down, when all he describes in the article is exactly Farcry and Crysis, but in a city environment instead of jungle islands.

It wouldn't be the first time, I still remember when he said Crysis would take advantage of quad cores; when in reality Crysis was only optimized for dual.

Common sense should say you cannot have bigger scale with more freedom in less memory.

Massive can also be confined. Like Crysis and Far Cry, which often put you in what are essentially wide corridors. What he's saying is that it's not a GTA-styIe sandbox.

Sure, I'd be quite happy for Crysis to stay right where it is. But it isn't, it's moving backwards to accommodate console capability.

Consoles are built for cell streaming; so Crysis 2 was converted to cell streaming to run on them. Cell streaming butchers the scale in any game, cell streaming by its very nature is designed to fake scale.

We forget this is CRYTEK saying the game will be "more constrained". For all we know, Crytek's version of constrained is like Borderlands.

Well, Crysis 1 did take place on an island compared to New York. Having a whole big city like that open while having amazing graphics and physics would be kinda hard to do on even the most powerful of gaming PC's.

I guess more people should have paid for the game when it was on PC and then it would have stayed PC exclusive shame about the amount of PC pirates

These people need to be paid and consoles is the solution for this.

From what I remember, crysis was pretty linear at times while there were a few open world segments you spent a lot of time in linear segments like the alien ship, trying to find heat sources for prophet (I believe his name was), vehicle segments, the aircraft carrier, the mine, etc..

It sold 3 million.

considering the PC install base 3 million thats rather poor. Honestly this is why PC gaming is def in decline compared to mid 90's to around the time xbox360 PS3 released.

Rather sad really... How much will it sell now that its going to be PC, 360, PS3 $$$ money talks

nobodys listening man. and people probably wont believe the developers anyways and accuse them of dumbing things down when apparantly it was a design decision. just like with Alan Wake. i guess people on SW know whats better for these games than the actual people developing them.
