Currently it seems like the site is not yet fully operational, but they finally delivered on their patch, and put in High-res textures.

What the improvement has for the Game:

Tessellation, lots of it

SSR reflections, hopefully shadowed

DX11 Parallax Occlusion Mapping

SSDO- Screen Space Directional Occlusion, which is an improvment to SSAO

Better Water

Improvments to particles, DoF, and Motion blur.

And of course High res textures :P

And the DX9 people will get Realtime local shadows and Contact hardening shadows.

I'll see it as soon as I get home.

Do I have to make version 2.0 of my app?

Maybe. They have advanced graphical options as of patch #2, and they're adding more along with DX11.

Why is it that the texture pack requires a 64-bit OS?

Mystic-G

High res textures take a lot of memory to use. With Crysis 2 running normally plus high res textures it might surpass the 3GB limit of 32-bit OSes.

They are releasing a free competitor to the UDK in august.

the editor was in the beta leak and it came standard with crysis 1. i see no reason why they didn't include it when i preordered the game specifically for that reason. the free sdk thing is great, but as someone in this thread stated i do kinda feel betrayed. but not because of the 'consolisation' or 'sub-par' graphics, only cause 99% of the fun i have with the crysis games is derived from the editor lol

That was an editor. They're making CE3 to be a direct competitor to UDK and they're focusing on making a true SDK instead. It's a good trade-off IMO.

Nice. 8) But why is POM, higher res textures, better particles, ect, exclusive to DX11. Didnt POM work in DX9 in Crysis 1, and that crazy particle mod too. Anyway, I can't wait to try it out. As much as I was dissapointed with Crysis 2, it was still a good game. :)

yeah, i was fine with just sb2 until the sdk released later for crysis. theres no reason why there couldnt have been an editor in the retail release

If I remember right, that editor was bug-hell and had support for PS3/360. They couldn't release that. That editor wasn't meant to be released at all. That was a fully-working internal leak (Not even a beta.)

Higher res textures work in DX9.

POM and the enhanced partcles effects were probably made this time around with the dx11 compute features for greater performance.

Possibly, we will have to see. One of the main complaints with Crysis 2 graphics was the textures, and lack of POM, this seems to fix both, and put in features that weren't in the original. After this Crysis will probably only lead with scale, interactivity, and object density with the huge vegitation.

They are better imo just because they've made the better game. However you talk about devs going the extra mile. My point is what has value done to go the extra mile? Not saying they are bad or lazy, but value really doesn't do much. Most of there newer ips weren't even created in house.

I had way more fun with Portal 2, both singleplayer and going at it with friends. Just because Crytek may be good at implementing a more robust RK4 into the physics engine integrator or writing a dozen new shaders to take advantage of the new graphics pipeline in their engine doesn't mean squat except to people who get off on that kind of thing.

At the end of the line, Portal 2 got authoring tools less than a month after its release. Crysis got them zero-day. Where are they for Crysis 2?

I want to know how it will effect performance. DX11 is supposed to be more efficient, I wonder how my trusty gtx460 will handle the new effects. Remember Crysis 1 DX10 ran horribly.

I'm a little anxious about physics and destruction but let's see ;) The links not responding is unbearble!!!!

Edit: And PnP drones are in for a shock. Hermits do actually give credit where it's due since some of us are actually interested in tech.

Looks VERY nice. Finally with this and Battlefield 3 I feel like we are approaching next gen in terms of graphics. Wonder if Wii U will be capable of this when devs squeeze the power out of it (I know its supposed to have only DX10 level of GPU, but PS3 having DX9 level GPU and it best looking games can compete with most DX10 games easily).

You're comparing creating tools for an engine that been around for 7 years to one that was just created. Look at DICE they never realsed tools for BC3, not because they are lazy or whatever, but just do to not having the time. The fact Crytek is putting forth the effort all all is huge imo. Not many devs even attempt to do it anymore.
