Too late. They should have released it sooner. Hopefully the creative community will turn it into a much better game.ocstew

You hermits sure are fussy. lol

Yeah some people are never satisfied. It's not Crytek's fault EA forced them to release it early. After all they are the publisher and they have little say about the deadline. And think about it, seriously, why would EA give a damm about some PC exclusive features. Hurr Durrrrrr

Yeah because I think it sold better on the consoles so EA doesn't even care. I bet Crytek did this is improve their image among PC gamers.

Yes because you can choose the pace of the game and how you play in COD. Oh wait, if you're even slightly slow it says something like "You were too slow!".

You don't know what the UDK is, do you?ferret-gamer

unreal engine, i hate unreal engine 3, there is better engines out there, but so many lazy devs and modders flock to UE3 because its so easy

No, the UDK is a version of the Unreal 3 engine that is free to use, and release games under a licence that anyone can afford. It is opening up the capabilities of a million dollar commercial game engine for any aspiring game developer to use. Modders flock to it because it is a chance for them to make their mods into full games. Compared to other free to use engines the UDK is godlike in its capabilities, especially considering it has all the features and capabilities demonstrated in the Samaritan demo.

Yea, people really should commend epic above all else for releasing their tech out to the public completely free. UDK continuosly updates over the years, with every piece of their newest tech at any given time. So say you want to go ahead and make games with all the features that were shown in the samaritan demo? You could absolutely do it, right now, for free! :o

And if CE3 is receiving the same treatment, aspiring developers can benefit so much, and it can only help the growth of the industry by training them early.

Looks great. Altough I'm afraid it won't be enough. Crytek has forever lost their place in "best PC devs" pantheon and that will never be reclaimed again. Hopefully, even if it's impossible to get pc fans to worhship them again they might at least get their respect back.

ITs not just about pace though is it? the Multiplayer, the single-player is slower paced but still nothing like the first. just an action flick with very little sandboxing.

Yeah Crysis 1 MP suck pretty bad. You had terrible lag, bad designed maps, only one mode the other one plain sucked.

Luckily most PC gamers aren't as elitist as they are on these forums. Honestly, if Crytek releases a post-production patch when they didn't need to, even though most moaners had already said, "Screw off, we don't need you console noobs Crytek", as well as release a free SDK for making standalone games AND a dedicated Sandbox Editor for Crysis 2, you SHOULD be satisfied. But these people aren't. They forever look to the past and hold everything they can to Crytek.

Now that they've changed that we go back and say, "OMG please bring back rig crushing graphics, I promise I won't moan". They've fixed that too with this patch, did you expect a whole new game, just for PC players too? They made a mistake with the gameplay, it's the past, the game is released. They've obviously been trying to create some goodwill with the PC community with mod tools and better graphics. That's as much as they can do now.

I don't really hope PC gaming goes under it is still a great platform for gamers. The days of high budget exclusive PC games are over so I think you PC elitists better realize that. So are you saying if Crysis 2 was only on PC it would have been better? Yeah right. The next gen of Consoles are going to put an end to that argument. Crysis 3 on the next Xbox and PS4.

Why do we need high-budget games? TW2 didn't even go over 10 million and it easily tops all console games in every aspect. Plus, we still have Blizzard.

And yes, it would've had the potential to be better. Small rendered areas and a simplified suit because casuals wouldn't be able to handle the original. Not to mention heavily scripted hollywood scenes and still terrible AI. If it keeps the linearity and corridors, then consoles can have Crysis 3.

The backlash is because Crysis 2 not only didn't improve off Crysis 1, but because it actually REMOVED many features and gameplay elements to make it more suited to console play.

And yeah I do, but it wasn't always planned for console (regardless of what everyone will say.) The point was is that high-budget exclusives don't matter.

And no, plenty of PC gamers would be able to handle it. FFS I played Crysis 1 on med/high settings with a system that had a slightly better GPU than the PS3 (Although with a lot more memory and slightly weaker GPU.) But that was at 720p and I had to kill everything and change my resolution to 800x600 during the last part of the game. It was a pain when it got firefight heavy. There were plenty of videos of people SLIing 8800GTs and getting past 30FPS. A single 8800GT would handle it with 30FPS with some ease. Don't use DX10, get a config tweak, then you're golden.

You don't make any sense. What does it have to do with Crytek loosing the "graphical gods" tag? Nothing. THey were considered the company who pushed the tech the most, then they released a game that doesn't look any better than their almost 4 years old predecessor and also has consolized gameplay. So they obviously lost the "PC FPS Gods" status. Why it happened is irrelevant. Just because it made more sense financially or even if they were forced to do so..the end result is still the same. This doesn't mean they suck or are a crappy developer. All it means is they can no longer be considered the company that pushes the FPS genre forward on PC both graphically and gameplay-wise, like they used to.

Crap, I absolutely love the fact that big budgeted exclusive action games are dying out on PC, they were just dumbing down the whole platform. THeir switch to consoles have made their PC sales pure crap in comparision to what they used to sell. And this caused people to have more money and time for other more niche games, with smaller budgets but bigger depth. Previously exclusive PC FPSes pretty much caused near extinction of every PC genre besides RTS, now all those genres and game types are enjoying a ressurgence. But while I love this trend, it doesn;t mean that Crytek can still be considered the same company for the platform that it was in 2004-8

Sure, but it would most likely still be more profitable as PC exclusive than a multiplat.

Not very likely. First PC gamers like to play on high settings or close to max settings but if Crysis 2 been like the first one only 5% could play on the max or close to the highest settings and still not be able to break 30fps doing so. Second you are forgetting piracy sure I know it's on the consoles too but no where near as high as it is on the PC. Third Crysis sold the most when it was at $20 or less on Steam and other DD sites so that number of sold copies should account because of the cheaper price. I am pretty confident that Crysis 2 is going to outsell the first Crysis by a large margin over the next few years.

Oh Crytek did all those things because they love us right? it had nothing to do with a rushed release date with a console focused that they delayed what should be a built in feature for the PC Version? yes, advertise your gaming by forcing us to run at 2005 hardware graphics for a good 3-4 months is it? with your broken online which pirates can play on without penalty. Oh and they realeased the SDK for OUR benefit? hahaha Niave. marketing tool, thats all it is.

It might but considering how much more expensive developing and advertising it was I'm also pretty confident Crysis 2 will end up being less profitable than Crysis 1 was.

Also..let's be honest here, Crysis 2 already sold most of it's life time sales. That's how consoles work, sales die next to nothing few months after release. There are very few exceptions to this rule and Crysis 2 just ain't one of them.
Took exactly 6 minutes.AnnoyedDragon

The impression I got from your response was that the people demanding higher graphics are hypocritical, because they probably couldn't run them anyway.

Look at them.

The differences between gamer and extreme are barely noticeable, you could show someone a side by side; and it is unlikely they could pick out the minimum settings screenshots. And yet somehow it nearly halved my frame rate, for practically nothing.

I imagine all the optimization went into the minimum settings, the console settings, and the two levels slapped on top weren't optimized in the least. The game isn't optimized for PC in the least, so I cannot imagine how terrible these updates are going to run.

I don't know about you but i see a pretty big differences between low and max settings on this screenshots and the differences is even more noticeable when you actually play the game, of corese the differences is not like the first crysis low vs max, but it is still a difference worth the performance impact.

I mean on max settings you have better lighting, SSAO, HDR, more objects, more view distance, and more detail generally.

Quite the coincidence lol. Got 31mins left for the HiRes Textures :(

Yeah, no luck here though. The download is going quite slow.

It's already midnight here, so looks like I have to wait til tommorrow to give it a whirl.

Apparently you need patch 1.9 to install the DX11 patch and the 1.9 patch isn't available for now. I'm sad :(

I know right? These things only matter when they deal with the 360 or PS3 getting high res textures or tessellation. PC don't count.

It's about graphics, something SW loves here.

You see a big difference, I don't. You're free to your opinion of course, but so am I. I see my frame rate near halving and the visual experience doesn't justify the frame rate dip.

Then you've looked at the worst screenshot.

Trust me, the differences will be massive.

Will be massive? Are you referring to the games existing visuals; or the patch?

Remember I tried the game, I know what it looks like.
I really hope PC gaming does go under because you people don't deserve it. xhawk27

Well..according to people like you the only correct way to aproach developers is on your kees, licking their boots... great thinking

Find me an era where the PC was about big budget games? It never was. Big budget development has always been on the consoles, which has grown more and more as 3D became the norm and production values kept increasing. Crysis 1 was a more original and inventive game with the FPS formula than the second; so compare Crysis 2 to Warhead in regard to differences as a 'sequel'. Crytek and EA wanted Crysis to become a well known shooter IP on multiple platforms, so they changed the direction and approach of the game - Crysis 2 and it's figures are the result of it. It doesn't always work out. At all. Console space isn't the shining beacon, and it's more competitive and financially challenging than ever. Which is why PC gamers have games like ArmA 2 and RO2 to look forward to. They wouldn't find a sustainable audience in the current climate, especially with the dependency on publishers aiming for a general audience to maximise sales.
