What is with all the Crysis hate? People are calling it a tech demo, gameplay sucks etc.

How exactly? Do people want the same boring gameplay over and over in every single shooter? Linear gameplay and stuff?

Or are people just jealous, and they can't run the game so they decide to bash it.

Combination of jelousy, overhype, and people not seeing the whole picture.

Most people who blow through Crysis never tried to actually play it the way the developers wanted you to play it. This being said, its very poor game design to have this happen.

Anyways, most gamers wont have tried the game on Delta Difficulty with graphics on a very high settings like I have. There the game is different. In normal you can blast your way through the game like no tomorrow, but in Delta Difficulty you need to actually play the game world to win.

Crysis gets hate because it is a mindblowing graphical and technical achivement that can't really be enjoyed by a majority of gamers because they a) dont have the hardware b) don't have the patience c) dont see how much of an evolution the game truely is to the FPS genre because of the ability to blow through it fast.

The first time I played Crysis I blew through it on normal and had an absolute blast. It was a great linear shooter. Then I cranked up the difficulty, worked out some bugs, and took a slightly different approach. Soon the game was 100% different. Every engagement was more tactical as I had to use the terrain to my advantage. The AI is really intellegent and lifelike at the higher difficulties. They don't act any different, but at the rate you take damage in higher difficulties makes their manuvers seem much more sagnificant. You start to see yourself playing the enviroment more than playing agianst the AI. Its all about how you approach every battle.

Its a shame that most people wont play it this way because of the easier difficulty settings being more of a run n' gun game than anything.

People constantly bash Crysis and say it only gets its praise because of the amazing graphics. If Crysis was just another game that looked good, but not leaps and bounds ahead of the competition, people wouldn't assume that the game only got its score because of its technical achievement, and might be interested in it more.

Maybe it makes no sense, but that's how I see it. A lot of people think Crysis is only good for its graphics when they aren't aware of its open-ended gameplay.

The open-ended gameplay is masked by this ability to run and gun through the entire game. Thats the real flaw with it. Nothing in the game makes you actually utalize the enviroments, well nothing on the lower difficulty settings which the majority of players start on.

I can not run the game on my PC but I do not bash it. Unless someone says that a console could not run it, because it has these awesome graphics, than I bash the game, because I know as well as anyone else that the PS3, and 360 could run the game, plus if they ever remade the game, it would have the same graphics, they would not recode the entire game just to put it on a console. They would have to do the mandatory re-programing to make it work on the console, but other than that it would stay the same.

I do not hate Crysis, I simply don't think it was FPS of the year material. The gameplay isn't as groundbreaking and unique as you are making it out to be either.

I liked the single player, but the multiplayer was crap, to be honest. Needs a better multiplayer to merit a 9.5 IMO. Still a great game though.

Crysis is one of the PC's best shooters, but there are a lot more precious games out there that Hermits boast about.

Counter-Strike: Source, World of Warcraft, Starcraft series, Diablo series, Baldur's Gate series and STALKER are a few examples.

Decent first person shooter, aint no "halflife" though. Certainly better than halo 3's single player campaign.

I'm looking forward to Warhead, they have said outright they are giong to fix the things people critized, like the more liner last act, story-telling and weak vehicals, I recon it will be pretty good.

Well, the game's stealth mechanics are broken. I tried being stealthy the whole game and it was horrible. But the parts where I decided not to be stealthy were the most fun. I wish they would have adapted a camo system as opposed to the generic "temporary invisibility" crap.

The Stealth is pretty good imo. Static, slower, move it drains pretty fast. If you could just stealth all the time, it would be far too easy.

It's not good at all. It was broken. The AI for the combat was great, but when they couldn't see you, they were stupid. The game was made to play the action way. That doesn't mean that you couldn't use the "stealth" mode, it just meant you couldn't use it the whole game, which is what I did. I ruined it for myself, playing it like Deus Ex when it was meant to be played like Far Cry.

bingo, I found this out the hard way. Naturally when I first played, I put the difficulty on delta because I consider myself a very good FPS player. The game wasn't THAT hard, but it got boring after a while-Cloak, uncloak in bush, headshot, cloak, uncloak in bush, headshot, and so on for hours.

When I dropped the difficulty a notch and started playing like I was a mega super soldier, it got alot more fun.

It's simply because they havn't played it. They base it from what they see and what they have heard. And frankly all we hear about is the graphics is Crysis, and then people (fanboys) are gonna believe that's all there is to the game. You could call it a branch of rumours, basically.

The same thing for MGS4. People who havn't played it call it a movie, while people who have played it knows it has excellent gameplay too.

There's nothing we can do about it, except making a biggo long thread putting emphasis on something other than graphics in the game.

Crysis is an incredible game. It doesn't take much to run it at medium to high settings at a good framerate. People (console fanboys) just like to blow it out of proportion despite the fact that they do not know *hit about PC hardware and prices in general.

But you did answer your own question. People bash it because they can't run it and have most likely never even played it.

I guess I am an apparition, seeing as many people seem so sure that those who can play it adore it and those who don't must not be able to. OR, it could be due to the fact I played older PC games like Dues Ex and the like years ago.

Exclusive console gamers who don't have a friend with a decent rig have not played the game; all they have is videos and screenshots to judge the game by. It is not surprising then, especially in SW where platform image is a big deal, that these sort of people will downplay what the game has to offer.

It particularly gets on my nerves when these sort of people declare the game play in Crysis bad, or call it a tech demo/graphics over game play despite never having touched the game. If you are going to call Crysis bad I'm going to assume you are a console gamer, even if you claim to have played it on a good PC; if you call this game bad you have not played it properly.

The game proves you can have outstanding graphics and good game play, the sort of open environment experience that is only possible in the none memory premium environment on PC.

When people say it can't be done on consoles they are right, those graphics CANNOT be done on a console... Editing the game and reducing level size, crapper textures, worse draw distance, worse lighting is not achieving what the PC is, saying "well if they stripped it down then it would be possible", that's besides the point.

nah I don't hate it. In fact, I never played it so how can I hate it? :P

but most of my friends that own the game say that it isn't that great as people say it is. that it's just another shooter in their eyes. IDK..

but I do feel that crysis is way overused here in SW, just like MGS4 and Gears.

I guess I am an apparition, seeing as many people seem so sure that those who can play it adore it and those who don't must not be able to. OR, it could be due to the fact I played older PC games like Dues Ex and the like years ago.Verge_6

If they changed the "cloak" mechanic to adadpt to your surroundings, instead of the complete invisibility; and they made better non-combat AI; I think the game would be better. As it stands, Crysis includes a "stealth" option which is extremely cheap. Wheras Deus Ex's stealth was highly recommended and rewarded the player; the one in Crysis just isn't any fun.

But I think "Assault" is the best level in the game. So I disagree there.

Well, the game's stealth mechanics are broken. I tried being stealthy the whole game and it was horrible. But the parts where I decided not to be stealthy were the most fun. I wish they would have adapted a camo system as opposed to the generic "temporary invisibility" crap. organic_machine

strange ... at delta difficulty i used stealth a lot, never faced any major problem that i can remember (except one of the helicopters i guess).

A lot of it is jealousy, not a lot of people have a pc that can run it hi spec, the graphics mnake it a must have game..

but IMO the game would be about a 7 without the graphics, the graphics take it from mediocre to amazing,

yeah..sure buddy:roll:

"Why Crysis? It's the shooter that pushes the limits of gameplay and technology in almost every way possible. Yes, it's got the most advanced graphics seen to date, but it's also a deeply rewarding shooter that requires you to think as much as react."

"It was this open-ended, emergent gameplay--the ability to let us tackle our challenges in whatever way we wished while requiring us to think on our feet that helped the game squeak past impressive shooters such as the highly addictive Call of Duty 4, the extremely polished Halo 3, the creepy and distinctive BioShock, and the jam-packed game known as The Orange Box--all of which are genuinely exceptional games in their own right that are absolutely, positively worth your while. But for being able to make us feel like an incredibly lethal and intelligent predator in a way that perhaps no other game has done, Crysis takes this award."

erm.. Sorry for having an opinion?

as I said, it's obvious.. gameplay isn't crysis' defining attribute.

The helicopters were annoying. The stealth just wasn't designed well IMO. Compare it to games like Deus Ex, for example. The action was rock solid, and the cloak made the action pretty cool too. But using the cloak the entire game just ruins the experience. When I would go in using the cloak rarely, I had a top notch intense experience. But trying to go stealthy the whole campaign, the invisibility was cheap, and it lacked any thrill or challenge.

What they needed was the MGS3 type of cloak, so you're invisible from a distance away. Because, in Crysis, I was RIGHT in front of people with the cloak, and I was unseen. Come on, that's just cheap.
