Crysis is not Graphics King

I'm talking Unmoded Crysis here. Ok, I know it does many things well, and I mean really well. But I have to say that out of the games I've played on my pc it's not the best graphically. Crysis can look dull and uninspired at times. It has ok texture work considering all the hype it gets. But it does have excellent water effects, great lighting and awesome character models. Two games immediately come to mind that I feel are better looking than Crysis.

Mirrors Edge
Insane shadows, great lighting, brilliant textures (especially the specular maps), great artistic design.

F1 2010

Looks brilliant,Beautiful Textures, lots of little details, great character models, great sense of speed, nice lighting.

Truth be told, I think it's just hype that's why people feel the way they do. BTW, these screenshots are from my PC. I mean Crysis does look great but it's not the end all be all of good graphics like many people make it out to be.

Mirrors Edge is the most photorealistic game around, but Crysis is graphics king, especially with mods.

F1 is a racing game, so you cant really compare it to crysis, but your screenshots look meh, and not as good as Dirt 2.

First of all Dirt 2 pwn F1. Crysis still pwns Mirrors Edge. If Crysis wasn't graphics king than why does even powerful graphics cards have a hard time running it while they can run Mirrors Edge with breeze?

TL;DR: Mirrors Edge may be near unchallenged in some aspects of what it does, But Crysis does a hell of a lot more and can look amazing doing it, and you will be hard pressed to find a game doing nearly as much while running as good.

So what if Mirror's Edge is prettier than Crysis?

It was still one of the most linear, shortest, and feuture-less games of our generation of games.

Exactly there is a difference between graphics king and the best technical game. A game can have top notch graphics and be open world with great scale and be the overall technically best game, but if one linear corridor game happens to have better graphics its still the graphics king even if its scale is small and its areas cramped. However, imo being the most impressive technical game is a bigger achievement than being graphics king.

So what if Mirror's Edge is prettier than Crysis?

It was still one of the most linear, shortest, and feuture-less games of our generation of games.

Articstic design and atmosphere is subjective. I found Crysis to be a much more immersive game, especially in the middle parts of the campaign. Its not impressive at all to have slightly better textures then Crysis considering how linear it is. Honestly thoe, for all the dull textures that Crysis has, Mirrors Edge has far more.

but this is what's going to keep games like Kirby's Epic Yarn from being graphics king.

the word isn't very well-established around here anyways. might be a good thing that it's not.

anyhow, I wouldn't dabble in it too long. and you're still free to argue that M-Edge is easier on the eyes as well as more artistically inspired.

That is such bull crap. I haven't played ME on PC (just consoles) or Crysis, but if the game is in fact prettier, it doesn't matter how impressive it is. If it did we could be picking games from last gen, I can't believe Chaos Theory looks as good as it does on the PC I play it on. Killzone 2 is more impressive than Uncharted 2 because it uses less of the PS3. The prettiest game is graphics king, most technically impressive has less to do with graphics and more to do with optimization. By that logic a game like God of War: Ghost of Sparta could be graphics game.

Mirror's Edge looks FANTASTIC. Overall the second best looking if scale, AI, rendering and everything technical about graphics isn't included. *After Metro 2033*

It's the other way around. Graphics King is all about technical graphics, in fact it started being about hardware. Most probably a hermit introduced it into System Wars and that is how it jumped to software and even consoles.
