Crysis ruined this generation

InFAMOUS review comes out, and I look at the graphics and go "Pffft"

But then my wife plays Phantasy Star Online on the Wii yesterday, and I look at those graphics and remember when they were some of the best available.

So I take off my "Pfft" goggles and go back to watch the IGN Video Review for InFAMOUS again and judge that the graphics really are pretty dang good.

Wondering what made the difference, I realized that Crysis has spoiled me.
It's made my expectations too high. When I look at ANYTHING that can't compare to Crysis (and nothing can) all I can see is faults now.

I think Crysis has ruined this generation - it made console graphics outdated before the generation even had a chance to really start.

Ah yes, those darn graphics. Always affecting my judgement of other games.

You realize that games like World in Conflict and Stalker still look better than anything else on consoles too, right?

Crysis is so evil! God forbid us judging games on their own merits instead of comparing it to Crysis.

Whenever someone says let's judge a game based on it's merits in a "Crysis" thread, they're really saying "Please don't play Crysis before playing "Fallout 3, Killzone 2, GoW2, or any number of fun, yet leagues below Crysis games"

Graphics are what let the original X Box survive despite it's pathetic library, and graphics, no matter how stupid you think they are as a benchmark for a game's quality, will be what most games are judged on for any platform.

I swear, this gen, people spend more time studying and staring at the game visuals and complain about it then actually playing. HD has to be the most overrated feature ever. Tjeremiah1988

because crysis goes for the realistic look which is pretty damn boring, graphics havent been ruined for me at all, games still have that fantasy/great art style look to them which is still visually more appealing to the eye.Totalgym9000

$5000? That's cheap man!

I sold my car, my house and my dog just to play Crysis!

I still like Counter Strike Source alot more than Crysis and its graphics are far inferior. I think it's the Hermits who were hurt most by Crysis since it's the only game they talk about here still after almost 3 years. :roll: *yawn*

Quit ignoring games for not being as pretty as Crysis, and start worship Crysis' graphics. That's what I do.

I don't need stunning graphics for every game I play but I hate jaggies. Everything looks so clean and sharp on my high end PC, so everytime I go back to console gaming, my eyes hurt.

A lot of games on PC shame consoles graphics capabilities... but most of us have known this for a long time.

I agree with TC. It's not just Crysis' graphics, it's the whole game - how it's so technically advanced that it just can't be played on consoles. It's non-linearity and fantastic gameplay make me feel cheated by the limitations of this console generation. In short, Crysis is a game which consolites will receive next-gen while PC gamers have already gotten off to it. Quit rubbing it in.

Well the biggest problem you have is that you compare consoles against PC...

if having open levels with different approach to each mission, interesting storyline and awesome battles (tank battle anyone?) with awesome physics and ai is mediocore than yes,it is mediocore

too bad there isnt any other game like that lol

It's funny because more console fans bring up Crysis than anyone else...

You should judge games based on their own merits.

Crysis graphics are not good, I can look outside of my window IRL and see better than Crysis graphics. Windwaker or Okami on the other hand... THOSE are games with good graphics.death919

Crysis is an okay game and has best graphics but I enjoy Killzone 2 much more.

I don't expect Crysis level graphics from every game just because I played it, I look at some stuff and wish it was better; but Crysis is a bit too much to expect from every developer. Granted it is hard to be impressed by what passes as high end today because of seeing Crysis level, but that doesn't mean I think all games are ugly.

I suppose it depends on the person.

Ive never played Crysis, so perhaps I dont know what Im talking about, but good graphics have kind of had the opposite effect on me. Once the "OMG WOW LOOKS AMAAAAZING" factor has worn off, Im actually able to go back and appreciate old games, and less graphically intensive games more. No logic to it :P

I don't think it is ignorance, I think it is their way of coping with consoles being surpassed a year after the gen officially started.

If you exaggerate the expense it seems too far away from affordability to care.
