I don't but to think it will outsell Halo is nigh ludicris. This is the age of the FPS and Halo 3 is the last installment of it's main story ark, on the best selling console thus far. I don't see anything outselling it.
Spartan070

let me explain to you again....Starcraft is actually the official sport of Korea....Everyone thier plays it...and their damn good at it too.

the original Starcraft sold 10 million....and back when it was released...it didnt even have any form of copy protection.

This is the age of the flashy action game. Give me the sales stats for the last ten RTS games and the last ten FPS games. I don't care if it's Starcraft or not, I fully understand the following Starcraft has. Right now, at this point in time, no game has a bigger following than Halo, except maybe GTA.

Its understanable that FPS's sell more then RTS's....but this is Starcraft....a Game so popular that there is an entire TV channel Dedicaded to the game....

When Blizzard announced the game....they didnt announce it to the press, they announced it to a stadium full of people, who all started cheering.

This game is hugely popular in Korea....and if the First game sold 10 million...this game one will beat out Halo 3.

Many games are going to outsell Halo 3, Gran Turismo 5 will outsell it for sure, loads of games are gonna top halo 3, SMG will too i bet

Spartan070

Halo 3 may sell more copies than the PS3 sells consoles at this rate.

Halo 3 pre-orders - over 4 million.

PS3 sales - under 4 million.

The Halo 3 preorder thing was never confirmed. I still think it's untrue.

GS had an article on it....where they point out that its phisiclly impossible.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25623668&print=1

Either way, the relative proximity of the two number, no matter what the details are, still proves my point.

What???? no it doesnt....it just proves you were wrong...

When one of the numbers is blatantly false, it doesn't prove your point.

The total number of Halo 3 preorders is significantly less than 4 million.

Well, as big as Halo3 is it won't have any real effect on Crysis sales. Heck..Settlers VI's September release is bigger treat to Crysis sales than Halo3

Halo 2 trailers were being played as part of the previews in over 2500 theatres across the US, and that was only a fraction of the media drive. In no way am I insulting Starcraft, I just think you have no clue how popular Halo really is, particularlly to the type of gamer who wouldn't frequent an internet gaming forum. Talk to random people at work or school, Halo is the game.

Also, the first Mario sold over 10 million, the last one, not so good. Times change.

Both Starcraft and Blizzard's most recent title, World of Warcraft, have outsold both Halo games. When at around Christmas time when the number of Halo 3 copies sold is relatively close to the number of PS3s sold, I will have the last laugh. That was my point. The pre-order mumbo-jumbo was just filler to attempt to bolster my point. I will only be wrong if this prediction is not fulfilled.

Except this isnt going to change.....Even today after almost 10 years....Starcraft is still hugely popular....even more so then before....

And that TV chanel that they have for this one game...is still up.

This game is litterally treated as a sport in Korea....they have proffesional players who make their living off playing this game, and who are treated like Sports Stars in Korea.

seriously...this is a picture from a Starcraft game involving the 2 top players their....

now tell me....do you actually think Halo 3 can match this popularity....

4 million in 3 months? It could happen. It's unlikely, but it certainly isn't impossible.

False numbers, however, are not the way to bolster your point.

After I squashed the ideology that Starcraft is currently more popular than Halo, you then turn to the dev and a convienient non-RTS game. Forgive me if I am not swayed.

It's quite simple really. SC sold more than either Halo games. WoW also sold more than any Halo games. What's more Halo is limited to US Xbox360 audience. That's the main market for Halo. SC is global, it's not limite by console's install base. Judging by previous efforts from both Bungie and Blizzard it's obvious Sc2 will sell more and you have provided no real proof it might be otherwise

When did you squash it? By saying "maybe it isn't, because time passed"? Forgive me if that doesn't sway me.

High sales of Starcraft + Tons of buzz around Starcraft 2 + Incredible popularity of Blizzard worldwide = more sales than Halo. As Adrian mentioned, Starcraft isn't limited by a small install base, like Halo 3, and it is popular everywhere, not just in the United States. The sales rate might not be as explosive as Halo's, but in the end, Starcraft 2 will move more units.

this article scared me even more then that picture...

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=email_us&refer=asia&sid=a2JvzciDnpB4

"Lim Yo Hwan, 25, has a 587,000- strong fan club and is sponsored by SK Telecom Co., South Korea's largest cell-phone company."

"Competitions draw almost a third of the nation to watch games on television or play them on the Internet, attracting sponsors including Samsung Electronics Co., Asia's biggest technology company, and Shinhan Bank, a unit of the nation's second-largest lender."

"The 40 billion won ($39 million) industry, including revenue from broadcasting and sponsorships fees, is set to triple by 2010, according to Samsung Economic Research Institute."

" The tournament, held three times a year, has a sponsorship fee ranging between 400 million won ($400,000) and 500 million won. Sixteen professional gamers compete for a berth in the final for the 20 million won first prize, part of a 60 million won total payout."

And you have? 10 year old sales statistics? WoW sales figures, as if that pertains to the discussion in the slightest? Will Table Tennis 2 sell well because GTA III sold well years ago? I never said anything was definitive. The closest I came to that was "to think it'll outsell Halo is nigh ludicris." Halo 3 IS on it's way to setting a record for pre-orders, it's logical to assume the game will sell very well. It's not that I underestimate Starcraft it's that you guys seriously underestimate the popularity of Halo.

Possibly but I think Halo 3 willhave a better "first year" than Starcraft. Perhaps you have inspired me to put some statistical parameters on my hunch, if you will.

Are they really going to break the previous record, held by Blizzard's Warcraft 3, the last RTS they developed (4.5 million preorders)? I haven't seen any evidence of that, besides the completely false 4 million preorder rumor.

Well... but SC sold more than Halos. THat's a simple fact. It might have changed, but you need to provide proof it did.

*sigh*

What's up with intelligent posters always asking for something that cannot be proven without time travel to be proven? You see me asking for proof that Starcraft will outsell Halo? No because I'm a rational person, that's why.

It's not that I underestimate Starcraft it's that you guys seriously underestimate the popularity of Halo.

sonicmj1

Are they really going to break the previous record, held by Blizzard's Warcraft 3, the last RTS they developed (4.5 million preorders)? I haven't seen any evidence of that, besides the completely false 4 million preorder rumor.

The scary thing is, is that Warcraft 3 isnt even close to as popular as Starcraft.

No, I'm just trying to point out you just argue that you "have a feeling" Halo 3 will sell more. It's natural since you're a huge fan. But there's no logical justification for that feeling.

If I recall correctly, which I do, someone said Starcraft will outsell Halo before I made a retort. If you'll notice, Starcraft isn't even supposed to be in this thread. Nobody brought up Starcraft to defend Crysis....Someone here said no game could ever match Halo 3 in sales....and thats when Starcraft 2 was brought in.

Propably. But at the same time Halo3 has no chances of lowering crysis sales in any substantial way. even if it's released on the same day

AdrianWerner

A) Halo 1 and 2 sold a combined 15 million+, Starcraft sold 10 million.

B) Those figures are no longer relevant. How many sequels sell as much as their predecesor?

To the hardcore PC gamers no, But Crysis is not really a heavy contender StarCraft 2 would abe much better contender even though it is in a different genre.

a. Starcraft was only one game....why are you comparing it to 2.

b. Almost all sequals sell more then the original game, though they usually end up worse. And a game which remains so extreamly popular, is not gonna sell less with the sequal.

Oh..so you aren't saying Halo 3 will sell more than SC3, what you're saying is that Halo 3 and Halo 4 COMBINED will sell more. Great we sorted this out. :)

Most of them sell at least as good, if not better. But wait..does it mean Halo 3 won't even outsell Halo 2? :D

And exacly why aren't they relevant anymore?

Oh..I'm not saying crysis will ever compete with Halo 3 sales-wise. What I'm saying is that Crysis will sell great, and would sell the same even if Halo 3 would launch the same day

No, it's just that now not only do I know there is said article but I know exactly what it says, because youguys have been harping it constantly, therefore I'm only even mentioning it to acknowledge the fact that it disputes my claim.

Thus why I was self-owned.

The reason I'm sort of dismissing it is because, like I said earlier, I'm not debating pre-order numbers, my main point was I think that by Christmas Halo 3 will have sold more than the PS3. Why do I need to drop everything, go read an article that's already been in essense read to me, then come back here and blog about how it destroys my claim on a pre-order number that is not really that relavent to my original point anyway?
