I loved Crysis, I have always thought of it being like FarCry with a Nanosuit. The gameplay is still extremely similar to it, and instead of those retarded mutated gorrilas in FarCry, you have aliens that you can grab and punch.

the game felt linear enough. there'll just be a lot less empty room. dunno what they'll do, though

LOL @ sold three to 5 times as much as Crysis on consoles.

Bingo, we have a winner. EA's grossly inflated Crysis sales FOR THE LOSS.

usmcjdk6

um.... they were quoting an interview from 3 months ago.

Crytek was referencing their sales compared to Halo 3 and CoD4.

And Crytek was insane for expecting Halo or CoD numbers from their game.

the game saw some drastic changes in terms of design.

They went from calling people by real names, to using code names. Jake was dropped in favor of "Nomad".

I honestly don't know for sure though.

PS3_3DO

Crytek generally announces games early in development.

Also, 1.5-2 years is probably likely for dev time for a sequel since they don't have to rewrite the engine.

yes, Nomad is just a code name, but Jake was scrapped. They said that Jake is not his name.

They wanted to keep him sort of anonymous so they left it at "Nomad".

He does have a real name, but they don't tell you his real name. And it isn't Jake.

I see. Well in that case, I will now assume that Nomad has got the same name and face as I do. Whenever a video game developer makes a main character anonymous, they do this because they want to allow YOU to assume who the character is, what their name is, and what their face looks like. So I guess Nomad looks just like I do, and has got the same name as me :)

They should. You might as well buy the console version, and play with your friends. Then get a dumbed down PC version.

Kirlok

PC exclusive...

Like I said, the comment was taken out of context.

He was refering to new FRANCHISES not being PC exclusive.

They have an established fanbase for Crysis and they will continue the story on the PC only.

It doesn't make any sense to have Crysis 2 on consoles when Crysis wasn't on consoles because it couldn't run on consoles.

Crysis is going to be their bleeding edge franchise. They are of the opinion that once you make a game, any future games of the same franchise can't be a step backwards in any facet. Crytek is about pushing the industry forward.

So, future Crysis games will just take what Crysis did and take that to another level, at least maintaining the elements of the first, and probably adding to them.

So lets say its a console exclusive spinoff.

Why be exited about a title that will lack the design, scope and visuals of Crysis - its most redeeming characteristics?

I really can't see a console Crysis happening. The graphics can be scalable to an "okay" degree, nothing phenomenal like the original but it definately can be toned down with the removal of DirectX 10. However, getting the AI, Physics, and open ended levels to run smoothly will butcher consoles. People often think that Crysis' strongest game points are the graphics, however, those who have played it know that the physics, AI, and level design play just as big of a role. A linear Crysis with COD physics and AI would be utter crap, imagine the alien ship level for the whole game...

Anyways, from what I read and understood, the Crysis series isn't arriving on consoles, but whatever titles Crytek has in mind for the future will probably go multi-plat.

It doesn't appear to be essential - "Crysis" is flourishing, despite the fact that it doesn't contend against aberrantly approved games like "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare", "Halo 3" and "Grand Theft Auto IV".

Think about it people....

Crytek say that they wont be doing any more patches... and they said they were giving a reason soon.

Then Crysis Warhead pops up.

This could very well be an Expansion - in all seriousness..........

Either that or a console spinoff.

Either way the name is terrible.

I don't think Crytek has ever had a history of particularly good naming or creativeness in story.

Come on, their first video game character was a white, young, ex-marine named Jack Carver.... how generic can you get?

Official press release:

Guildford, UK – June 5, 2008 – Maximum freedom, maximum explosions and maximum Psycho! Electronic Arts Inc. and award-winning independent studio Crytek today announced Crysis Warhead® – the parallel story to Crysis, one of the most critically-acclaimed first person shooters and PC games of 2007. Shipping exclusively for the PC this autumn Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek´s Budapest studio, and is built on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek's CryENGINE® 2 technology.

"We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. "That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis."

"The best result of a partnership that we can ask for in the EA Partners program is when a world c*lass independent studio like Crytek chooses to continue to work with us," said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. "Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise. We could not be more excited to be working with Crytek to launch another hit with Crysis Warhead this year."

In Crysis Warhead, players will don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as 'Psycho', one of the most memorable characters from Crysis. More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players will experience Psycho's parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho's Nanosuit is just as capable and he's equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new, exciting single player campaign, Crysis Warhead will also feature new multiplayer content. Stay tuned for more details this summer.

Wow, they create one game that was almost an excuse for pushing their Cryengine and they're making a franchise for it? Um, first establish a foundation for such a universe to work with. I didn't think Crysis would be able to stretch a trilogy, let alone an entire franchise.

No problem mate.

But I'm kinda a bit skeptical about this one. It's made by Crytek's Budapest studio, so I guess they're performing the same thing like Ubisoft does with Splinter Cell series (one title at Montreal, next title at Shanghai).

We'll see.

alteast they use names instead of 1 2 and 3 for sequals.

as for the game itself, who cares.

good luck saving money for the rig to play it.lol

Forensic-Klown

so why would any one spend more money if his rig could run cryis in the first place ?

they probably got broke developing the game so they couldnt hire a decent story writer.

it makes sense u know :P

And wasnt there some guy developing crysis who said Crysis's story could win an Oscar.

ROFLMAO !
