Official press release:

Guildford, UK – June 5, 2008 – Maximum freedom, maximum explosions and maximum Psycho! Electronic Arts Inc. and award-winning independent studio Crytek today announced Crysis Warhead® – the parallel story to Crysis, one of the most critically-acclaimed first person shooters and PC games of 2007. Shipping exclusively for the PC this autumn Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek´s Budapest studio, and is built on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek's CryENGINE® 2 technology.

"We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. "That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis."

"The best result of a partnership that we can ask for in the EA Partners program is when a world c*lass independent studio like Crytek chooses to continue to work with us," said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. "Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise. We could not be more excited to be working with Crytek to launch another hit with Crysis Warhead this year."

In Crysis Warhead, players will don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as 'Psycho', one of the most memorable characters from Crysis. More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players will experience Psycho's parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho's Nanosuit is just as capable and he's equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new, exciting single player campaign, Crysis Warhead will also feature new multiplayer content. Stay tuned for more details this summer.

Crysis Warhead has not yet been rated by the ESRB or PEGI. For more information about the game, please visit www.crysisthegame.com.

Eh, I got 5 hours into Crysis then called it quits. I saw no reason to continue... the storyline was complete trash and the gameplay was pretty repetitive.

Not gunna be checking these next installments out.

The one thing I don't get about Crytek complaining about low sales is the piracy argument, especially when they already said that the sales of the game exceeded expectations. Besides, I think the insane system requirements and the Vista exclusivity hurt sales a whole lot more than piracy did. Maybe they know that, but it isn't as easy to say as, "the pirates did it!"

That said, a Crysis sequel/expansion is good. Hopefully it improves on the formula of the original game.

Whoops, my bad. The whole "Games for Windows" blurb at the top of the box had me confused about Vista-exclusivity.

yeah.... lots of people don't seem to understand it.

GFW is simply a standardized branding. All games need to have certain things to get the branding.

GFW-LIVE is the online component. Used to be Vista only but it now works on XP. Only games with a specific GFW-LIVE tag are using this. Not many of the actual GFW titles use it.

I still stand by the fact that you are reading too closely into things. It's a concept drawing. It's got sort of a vision. They wanted to make him looked war torn. There are going to be discrepencies. Becauaseit's a concept drawing! A concept drawing! Not a screenshot.

I guess... Normally dev's try not to create massive discrepancies like that. I will be expecting some sort of explanation for the scar. And it better make sense.

They probably thought it looked cool or maybe they drew it wrong and was too lazy to change it :P

But see, that would be different if this were a screenshot. It's not. This is a concept drawing, meaning they go for a concept. They have a certain feeling their going for. They wanted Psycho to look war torn. They took the liberty to give him a scar to make him look more rugged. They try to capture a certain THEME in concept drawings. Wheras, in screenshots, they show you whats in the game. You are treating this still like a screenshot.

SO where are these actual figures about piracy? I still think this is a immense scape goat that devs like Crytek can't understand that things like extremely high req's alienates the majority of the pc user base...

Anywyas I erally could care less if its multi-plat just as long as it isn't dumbed down.. Which unfortantely it probably will be in scope as well as controls/difficulty.

Indeed :D

Yep, there's no problem liking one game over another, NONE will make every single person happy. If you like Gears better, that's cool. In fact some people still prefer a linear, run-n-gun shooter more like Gears or COD4 where the pacing and style is more tightly controlled.

However, to compare Gears and Crysis and call the latter repetitive? That's nearly inconceivable, impossible, incompossible!! ;)

Try playing Crysis creatively, trying new mixes of weapon, suit, and approach (free-roam) tactics, use the environment and object interaction to your advantage. Play the game more methodically, take your time.

It is, or can be depending on your play style, MUCH less repetitive than the gameplay in Gears which is almost the very definition of a rinse-and-repeat formula.

Yup, it's pretty ugly. But, Yahtzee will love this, since he loved Psycho, since they are both British/Austrailian.

I dont think people realize that these next wave of video cards are going to max out crysis completely. Even the low end GTX260 and HD 4850/4870 will max out crysis.

I dont think people realize that these next wave of video cards are going to max out crysis completely. Even the low end GTX260 and HD 4850/4870 will max out crysis.Killfox

Which is great because they come out right when I update my computer! :D

Crysis sold as much as resistance fail of man

i wouldn't call it a disaster

For a PC game like Crysis, I'd it's "Great Success!!".

Plus a lot of consolites dont understand that PC games sell over a longer period of time. There used to having a game come out and sell a bunch of copies the first few weeks and then the hype dies down. Games on consoles see there most most revenues within the first weeks unlike PC games.

Eh, I got 5 hours into Crysis then called it quits. I saw no reason to continue... the storyline was complete trash and the gameplay was pretty repetitive.

Not gunna be checking these next installments out.

You rated

DMC4 9.5, GeOW 9.5.

DMC4 also had a great storyline and amazing gameplay, without a doubt one of the best action games I've ever played.

And yet its repedative as hell

As is every DMC game.

Double Standards FTW

Indeed just what im thinking.

GeOW was also incredibly repetitive, had a laughably poor story - and yet according to him Crysis does?

crysis will not be the same. This new crysis is going to be just another shooter!!! it willl not have any major advvanment of any kind. What made crysis cool was it's high standards you can only get on a pc. You mark my words the new crysis is going to be lame and just another fps with all the 1000 other fps out there!!!!

I like that this is coming real soon and I hope that they don't do any new graphical enhancements fro CE2. It's unnecessary. However I would've liked if they just continued the story from the end of the original game. Maybe just have Warhead released as a stand-alone expansion pack instead.
