ie: if GTA4 had hit the PS3/360 with the issues it had when it was released on PC, people would've burned rockstar games to the ground

88mphSlayer

They may have cried up a storm for about a day, until a patch arrived and shut them up.

10 million PS3's died because of that leap year debacle and everyone (including me) was outraged... THE SECOND that PSN worked again, everyone shut up and went back to playing vids. :P

He isn't giving console gamers enough credit, look at how many people bought Oblivion, one of the buggiest released titles I have played in my entire life.

You have a point, and I'd like to think I have a point, but I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Console gamers might have less patience as a whole demographic, but I don't think it's quite as pronounced as he makes it sound.

i think, if anything, there may be a slight reversal happening. even last gen i dont think a console gamer would really apreciate how games are made, nor do they care how complex they are and they would expect it, without exception, to just work. a PC gamer would expect bugs because we knew games were very complicated and the vast array of hardware made catching all the bugs before launch almost impossible. PC gamers, to a degree, would accept that there partially testing the game....especially if they buy it at launch. PC gamers would expect it to be fixed asap but they wouldnt get too upset about it. but now i hear alot more comments about PCs being too complicated and games not working properly on day one and too many parches and so on. on the flip side....console gamers have become very tolerent of patches (nearly all games on the PS3 and 360 have at least one), very tolerent of hardware failure aand dont really mind the extra complexity the latest round of consoles have introduced. the "it just works" factor of consoles has been eroded somewhat but console gamers dont seem bothered.

MW2 stimulus pack had widely-reported issues and the mouthbreathing console fans haven't taken to the streets in protest. The argument can certainly be made that console gamers have LESS patience and LESS inclination to understand the process behind making a game, but I feel like he's making far too broad a generalization, and it's insulting. It's also insulting that anyone wouldn't consider the fact that many people are just GAMERS, not console gamers or PC gamers.Hahadouken
Haha, yeah, I consider myself a gamer. I've never used a prefix of PC or console, that's weird :?. Though I did say it in the OP for the sake of the topic :P.

EDIT: Kudos the the post above me :).

As I mentioned above, Gears 2 was nearly unplayable for a while and XBL users still stuck with it. SOCOM: Confrontation as well. Didn't reach the satisfaction level until about 6 months to a year post-release and has a consistent base of players.

Gears 2 had a huge userbase of fans, Crysis is unknown to a lot of gamers other than "the game with nice graphics and some guy with a suit"... i think for Crytek, they're treating Crysis 2 like it's a completely new IP as far as the console version goes

but i see your point, and concede

Well, reverse the situation, and imagine that the console versions were released a year later than the PC version. Hype would have died down considerably by that point. Eve: SOCOM and Gears 2 are both excellent examples of consolite patience.

There was a vague hint to development last year right? I'm wondering if it would be multiplat. Could be!

PS. I got BC2 on PS3 recently. We should play together soon.

I am beginning to doubt whether or not it will ever get released as well. If it does appear, it won't be a PC exclusive. DICE wants to be a console developer now, like Infinity Ward.

Oh the game is in development. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6211809.html?sid=6211809&part=rss&subj=6211809

So it should be out anytime between now and March 31st 2011, also its obviously a PC exclusive.

Yeah well the game has been in development for 3 years now http://www.gamingunion.net/news/battlefield-3-will-absolutely-blow-everyone-away--1075.html

Also this is what one of the former CEOs said "What the PC version is going to be, Battlefield 3, I think it's going to absolutely blow everyone away," Lilegren claims. "But I can't tell you what it is, but it will blow people away." All aboard theHype Train :Pwoot! woot! ;)

Gaming Journalists don't respect good journalism.

Seriously, WTF is with them creating articles that purposely portray the statements in a negative manner when there is nothing negative meant by the statements...

Here is the jist of what was meant by his statements:

Console gamers want their action immediately. They want the content to get straight to the point and they don't really care if the developers spent 2 months trying to create a particular sequence unless it gives them immediately what they want. This is largely a result of the type of play st-yle that console gamers in general have. In general, the average console gamer plays in much shorter chunks, playing for 30 minutes or 40 minutes at a time. As a result, spending 10 minutes to get to the action, no matter how much effort is put into those 10 minutes of set-up, simply is not acceptable for most gamers. There are exceptions, but most console gamers expect an immediately enjoyable experience that grabs them in an instant and holds them. PC gamers don't tend to have such an expectation. They tend to play for longer periods of time, sitting down for an hour and a half or two hours. They are much more willing to spend 10 minutes building up to the action.

Sometimes it really wouldn't hurt us if a few industry "professionals" would just shut their trap. I'm better off with some charlatans than people who obviously have an urge to spew out their stupi... umm... parochial minds.

This coming from a guy who has gamed on PC for years. Want to talk about respect? Then first start respecting the freaking console fanbase, that will soon make the jump on the badwagon of making some people in Crytek certified millionaires.

I think maybe he finally realized that for his game to succeed on consoles it will actually need to have great gameplay, and some kind of replayability in the form of mp. They can't just boost all of the graphics to the max and sell their game as the graphical "benchmark" like they do on pc. I always said as soon as they announced Crysis 2 for consoles that it would be profoundly interesting to see how it would turn out. Consoles are a true test of developer skill. They are competing in a very saturated market, only the devs that can find the balance between graphics, performance, and gameplay really succeed. Should be very interesting to see what Crytek can pull off on preset hardware, and if it will actually be compelling enough without the uber graphics to compete with all of the other great fps that have the gameplay and replayability to go along with their graphics.

Meh.. It's fine if a game has a few flaws and other small things – I enjoyed Heavy Rain thoroughly even though the game has its fair share of flaws. It was a good 8/10 game and I surely do want more "unique" games like that and not only shooters. But I don't go buy broken, rushed games and why should I? If the developer does a good job people WILL enjoy the games they make. Generalizing console gamers because a certain group (forum trolls) can never be satisfied is just plain stupid.

That's just.. WTF??! There's no need to think in a such way - why not make a game it was meant to be instead of being controlled by a particular groupd of gamers? There plenty of gamers and plenty of potential buyers. WHY should they cut all the "building up" and go straight to the action? There's enough gamers out there so that people who wants to have a quick action game can just go buy games like MW, BF or something similar. This reminds me of a person from another forum who flamed God of War and Uncharted because they werent free roam/sandbox, well guess what?! There are plenty of other games to choose from so if the person wants a sandbox game he should choose a game that was specificly made for that.

Kinda sucks that he thinks were all like that. I understand the amount of work they put into these games and understand its not like baking a cake. Theres a million little things that can go wrong. It is why I liked to support devs by paying full price. Its not like these little guys make millions of dollars.

Because they are running a business. They want to make as much profit as possible.

The game won't "suffer" for being a more fast paced, action oriented game. It will just be different. Honestly, for a game like Crysis, it will probably end up working out better in the long run.

Whats with crytek and the trash talk recently?

painguy1

it hasn't really been trash talk. It is just ****ty reporting by gaming journalists.

I am a console gamer and he is wrong. Though I guess he doesn't want me to buy his game because I am getting pissed at all the comments they are making.

It sounds like he's just saying that PC gamers are more tolerant of little bugs and glitches in a game, which sounds about right. I mean do you think STALKER would have gone over well on consoles? It probably wouldn't have even made it through certification.

The game won't "suffer" for being a more fast paced, action oriented game. It will just be different. Honestly, for a game like Crysis, it will probably end up working out better in the long run.

I don't know about that. The thing that I liked the most about Crysis were the situations that could make you approach a problem without being a loose cannon, one of the reasons why I didn't think the game reached its full potential(I hated the alien part)... also one of the reasons why I liked the first Crysis better than Warhead.

If the above is the case, I can expect it to be more Warhead oriented, that's not bad by all means, but I would preffer the former game in the series. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I agree with him. Consolites are more fanatical about their allegiances than PC gamers. SW is chuck-full of fine examples of what he's saying.

This guy (the CEO) can run his mouth all he wants as long as Crysis 2 turns out well.

Now I lost respect for Cevat Yerli. I feel disrespected by his commnets regarding console gamers.

console aficionados that frequent online boards sure do complain a lot....I agree.

but at the price we pay....We have every right to complain imo.

love how people are taking THIS out of context like everything else Crytek has said this week.

Read This.

Please figure out how to consider the meaning and intent of a statement.

[QUOTE="UnknownSniper65"]I think consoles need to stop devouring every great FPS on the PC.NVIDIATI

Every time we lose one we also gain one :P We lose Battlefield but gain STALKER, we lose Crysis, but gain Shattered Horizon. Also we're about to get Battlefield back :P BF3 8)

That's not going to stay exclusive, unless EA hates money.

Although it is a controversial thing to say, Cevat Yerli is mostly right. If a PC game doesn't work hermits usually have no problem downloading a patch, updating drivers, searching Google, etc. I'd say console gamers are less patient. It is the nature of the PC vs consoles.

Yeaaaaah

Crysis got a 9.5 here on Gamespot as well as Best Shooter of the Year. That was in 2007. A year when Halo 3, CoD4, and Bioshock came out.

It also has 91 average on Metacritic.

So if you honestly think Crysis succeeded on graphics alone then you are completely wrong.
