Really not a fan of the art design. It seriously feels like the copy and pasted the boring Bloodborne color pallet into this game. The first two Dark Souls had some vividness despite the grim world. It wasn't just a constant grey with small hints of occasional blue and orange.

I'll be picking this up, but not on release. Bloodborne is still holding me over.

Well I started playing bloodborne a couple of weeks ago, so I don't know what I'm going to do.

Don't know if I can handle two souls games back to back lol

I just got back into Bloodborne and have been absolutely OBSESSED with the game again. Actually caused me to go pre-order Dark Souls 3 finally because I just absolutely LOVE Bloodborne.

I am happy to see that they seem to have updated the Souls combat with some of the Bloodborne combat. I never got into previous Souls games unfortunately, but when I see footage of the games the combat looks so akward and stiff compared to how fluid Bloodborne is.

Definitely ready for the much-increased character variety that the other Souls games have though. Tis the one big weakness of Bloodborne IMO that there is a seriously lack of variety when it comes to character building. Either go strength, skill, or arcane. You can add a secondary stat in the mix too but it doesn't do anything other than change which weapon you use really.

Anyways, trailer was great and I am super excited for DS3. Hopefully I can work my way through the Old Hunters DLC in Bloodborne by then. Shit is absolutely BRUTAL...

Well, I was a slow character in dark souls 1 (battlemage) and I do have to tell you that (imo) dark souls 1 is a lot harder than bloodborne (and dark souls 2 for that matter). Bloodborne isn't easy, don't get me wrong, but the speedy gameplay does let me control the encounters more. I don't know if this was going to be the case if I chose a faster character in dark souls, i chose a mage and then leveled it as a knight with some spells (but not much). In ds2 i chose a knight from the beginning and that seemed easier, wether that was because of the way I levelled of an easier souls game, I never figured out.

I know the armor does slow you down a lot in a souls game but you can wear clothing as well. I never tried that actually but after playing bloodborne I might consider that.

Bloodborne has better graphics than the souls games though, but it's also a new gen. If I had known the game was so good, I would have bought a playstation a lot sooner than last month but I didn't because I was a bit dissapointed with ds2. Ds 2 felt like an inferior ds 1 to me, I never even bothered to finish it and I did play it for a numerous days though. Bloodborne feels like ds2 should have been , on the other hand it isn't a souls game exactly, especially because there's no multiple save points. I haven't defeated the priest yet but I already encountered him and I what I noticed was, when I pushed through the level, I came back to one specific lantern again which acts like a bonfire.

The setting is different too, dark souls feels like a nightmarish medieval setting, bloodborne like a nightmarisch 19th century europe. The gameplay is faster too but like I said, I think a souls game might be just as fast if you wear clothing instead of armor. Also, in a souls game, you have a lot of weapon and armor drops, you also seem to have a lot more weapons. No gun though.

I hope ds3 is a good game, judging by the trailer it really looks and plays good.

Bloodborne is difficult but usually feels possible. The DLC is MUCH harder than the base game though. Just making your way through the areas is an insane challenge, let alone the boss fights which I am currently stopped at the first boss fight...

I never got into the previous Soul games unfortunately so I can't compare the difficulty, but Bloodborne does feel significantly easier after you possibly struggle at the very beginning whilst trying to get used to the gameplay. Once you get used to the game it is very manageable and usually only the bosses are a big challenge (granted certain areas are just absolute insanity in terms of their difficulty).

The lantern system is great and there essentially ends up being multiple "checkpoints" through the different shortcuts you can unlock throughout each level. As you play be on the lookout for the different shortcuts you can open up back to the lantern.

I absolutely LOVE Bloodbornes world though and I think the lore can be a significantly overlooked part of the game. There is actually a lot of story tucked in the game, but it is not told through cut-scenes or other in-your-face methods . You got to talk to NPC's and read the documents and such that you find. There are a lot of great youtube videos that put the story elements together for you and they can lead to a much bigger appreciation for the lore. There are a lot of great touches thrown in like this (only slight potential spoilers) that really make me love the world they throw you in.

@JangoWuzHere: Grey goes well with the theme Bloodborne was going with. Besides, the game isn't completely grey.

Never finished previous dark souls and I've finished bloodborne countless times so It's my duty to buy this day 1 and kiss goodbye to my social life not that I had one anyway but you get the idea.

Looks unimpressive and looks like a rehash instead of taking the series forward.

DSII looked like the counterpoint of the first game, that's why it worked, DSIII looks like a rehash when it doesn't need to be.

Well the good part about playing bloodborne now is that I can look up stuff on the internetz how to defeat a boss. Like when I encountered that first boss, the priest, I was thinking nah, I'm not doing this lol. So I looked it up how to beat him, haven't gone back yet though.

It is something i didn't have with dark souls 1 and I remember playing bosses over and over and over and over, wel I'm sure you get the point lol.

Yeah bloodbornes world does seem to have a nice lore, the souls series don't have any story though, but when I played ds 1 I never really had any need for it. The utter desolation , even with the characters you meet is just something that no other game manages to pull off.

It's really a shame you haven't played ds1 though, I made a thread the other day where I was mentioning how someone invaded my game, i copied and pasted it here, so you know how good dark souls can be. Maybe a little tip to understand it properly, being hollow means that no one can invade you, you can take humanity, which is an item, and then you become human, you have a chance at better loot, but you can also be invaded.

" I was in blighttown, you know the underground level with the poisonous swamps. I was dead scared, since invasions weren't very common in dark souls I , not for me anyway, I was mostly hollow, and it already cost me blood, sweat and tears getting there.

The first thing I thought was hide, and so it happens that I had a chameleon spell. I ran to one of the islands in the poisonous swamps , hid between a bunch of vases and rocks and changed into a vase myself with the chameleon spell. I waited there, for like a halfhour, I smoked some cigarettes and watched the invader search through all the islands in the poisonous swamps. He came to my island last, since it was farther away than the other islands.

When he got there he was already to one third of his health, because the swamps brought his health down and as an invader he cannot heal. He past me, I changed back to my original form and surprised attack him, he didn't die right away and even almost killed me, this guy was good and very experienced but I still got the better of him.

Now the message I got afterwards is the best hatemail I've ever got."

Of course, souls games are more than invasions only but this is hands down my most memorable gaming experience. I have been wondering though, I haven't been invaded yet in bloodborne, does it have a similar system like being hollow /human in a souls game?

Bloodborne has those too except the community is kinda dead at this point. I am sad that I never got involved (I was afraid lol) because seeing stuff like this it looks like too much fun.

Art style looks way too much like Bloodborne, even the monster designs are eerily similar. That's a bad thing because I felt both games were very distinct from each other but now it looks like Bloodborne with shield and armor instead of a gun.

lol that last kill was epic.

What do you mean the community is dead? no one is playing this game anymore?

I don't know but from the looks of it dark souls isn't going to look as good as bloodborne

Have you ever played a Souls game? I know they can look dull as **** in some instances, but they're just a different brand of addictive.

I know the formula will wear thin some day, but for now I just can't get enough of them.

I enjoy destroying people during their playthroughs and receive hatemails lol. Oh yes, the tears shall be glorious. With each Souls release i do dat pvp religiously. What Dark Souls 3 needs is weapons such as Scrapping Spear and Storm Ruler from Demon's Souls. Those were the weapons very fun to annoy people with.

@commander: Yeah the community isn't there like it was before. It says alot when I can just ignore the bell ringing women in an area and NOT get invaded.

Thankfully I am sure Dark Souls 3 will have a huge a community and I will try and get into PVP then!

The comunity is not dead, you just need to be in a covenant to have a chance at PVP.

I stay with The league, cause they are friendly, but if you want non stop PVP, join Vilebloods or Executioners.

I am in the league with one character, and with another I joined both the league and the vilebloods. I got invaded once and that has been it with my playing all this week, granted this is dependent on my being in an area with a women ringing a sinister bell. I haven't been actively ringing my bell to PVP as I am still trying to build my characters, but I was just letting the bell ringing women do her thing.

@LostProphetFLCL:They just boost enemies in the area, and if you progress the story, they will disapear from the game world.

If you want heavy PVP, check a community, or the Bloodborne Wiki for PVP Chalice dungeons.

While you're on the Wiki, look up PVP in Nightmare dreams.

No those ladies let you be invaded. They are ringing the "sinister bell" that you ring when you wish to PVP.

For random, yes, but you can use your own sinister bell for PVP.

But if don't kill them, more power tou you friend, you will need it.

I can see what they were trying to do with this trailer and the song, but honestly it just didn't work, it seemed like random clips of gameplay with a song plastered on top, no real rhyme or reason to it.

@GhoX: The game is still using the same engine from dark souls II, so the game will run good enough. bloodborne runs smooth though.

Besides 4k (if that's available) i doubt the pc has something to offer, besides cheats then, which will ruin this game.

It worked pretty well for me, I think I already watched the trailer a dozen times, if not more, the music is breathtaking and fits this trailer perfectly. A dark version of true colors, well done fromsoft.

"As for performance, obviously it's early days right now, but the direction From Software is taking is clear: PS4's frame-rate holds mostly strong at 30fps, though there are streaming stutters between major areas. Dark Souls 3 abandons the 60fps target of the Dark Souls 2 remaster, and now we're running at a half-rate of refresh. It's a capped 30fps game with v-sync, bringing us back to the standard of earlier Dark Souls titles on console. Based on this early build, we're also looking at the very same frame-pacing issues as Bloodborne. We get an average 30fps in most scenarios, but with an issue in frame ordering that produces similar stutter to From Software's last work." Digital Foundry

Besides 4k? how about 60fps?

Keep telling yourself that.

30 fps runs like shit in a Souls title, and the two titles of the series (Demon's Souls & Bloodborne) where I played at 30 fps indeed ran like shit. For a game where timing is everything, whether it's parrying or rolling for invincibility frames, 30 fps is simply unacceptable.

ADD: Oh, and enjoy single-frames in Blighttown 3.0.

I never played demon souls but I did play dark souls 1, and you're right, that game has defenitely framerate issues. But then I'm talking about sub 30 fps gameplay, dark souls 1 dipped a lot into the 20's and even lower. However there was only a console version and there was no word of a pc version at all when the game was released, it was only a year later released on the pc.

I waited for dark souls II on the pc because the release was only a month apart, and there was only a release on the old systems (x360 and ps3). The framerates were better but I didn't like the game really.

Now I'm playing bloodborne and I don't have issues with framerates. A capped 30 fps is good enough but then it needs to be steady. Digital foundry may have seen some framerate issues but like a lot of times this gen, df can only find difference in numbers, not in actual gameplay. Dark souls III looks like it doesn't surpass the graphics of bloodborne , so the framerate will be a capped 30 fps as well.

Blighttown in ds1 on the console was a system hog, but the next gen systems are way stronger than those old dinosaurs, especially the ps4. So single frames in blightown 3.0? yeah dream on hermits, this game will run fluid on the consoles (well at least on the ps4 it will)

60 fps is overrrated, at least to me it is, anything steady above 30 is fluid enough for having a good gaming experience. Not to mention I don't have to worry about cheaters.

Okay if Bloodborne is fluid for you then not much left to say. People have different standards and I can respect that.

And don't get me wrong, I throughly enjoyed Bloodborne but I'd be lying if I was to say I wouldn't prefer it on PC.

i played 60 fps as well, it is indeed better, but not enough to part with my console and console friends.

and like I said, there were cheats on dark souls 1 on the pc, don't know about dark souls 2 but if it will happen with dark souls III, chances are bigger it will happen on the pc and not on the console.

I'm not a big fan of souls pvp, I played ds1 mostly on ps3, ds2 I have 280hours(scholar includedd) clocked on PC and didn't really see an issue with cheaters, obviously this doesnt mean there arent any..

Anecdotally I never once hit a cheater in the PC version of DS2 after 2 playthroughs on both DS2 vanilla and Scholars. I know people have seen cheaters, but maybe I'm just lucky.

DS1? Loads of cheaters, can't argue with that. The netcode was already terrible thanks to Shit for Windows Live, and it seems like of the very few invaders, most of them cheated. It was awful.

With Steam though, people's characters are tied to their gaming accounts. There's far more at risk and, as far as I have heard, cheating was greatly reduced from 1 to 2.

I have no idea why but I truly have absolutely no interest at all in the Dark Souls series. I don't hate them, in fact I really don't feel anything apart from /meh and /shrug

Have you ever played a Souls game? I know they can look dull as **** in some instances, but they're just a different brand of addictive.

I know the formula will wear thin some day, but for now I just can't get enough of them.

I played some of the first one and it never gelled with me at all, obviously I never finished it.
