if you go into an elder scrolls game looking for combat then you're doing it wrong[QUOTE="mems_1224"][QUOTE="dercoo"]
When Skrim still has the same ******* combat
Dark souls will destroy it
wootasifwoot
I went into oblivion thinking I could plow fields and ride flying cars... boy was I left disappointed. Now I know what to expect from Skyrim.
EDIT: Oh wait, I do know what to expect... repetitive quests and maps. I guess there will be ample quests like closing 100 oblivion gates (same map, each 15 mins or longer) in Skyrim.
quests are tailored to the way the player plays the game and every dungeon is hand crafted in skyrim, combat has been improved and streamlined alsoFor main story comparisons, dark souls should easily clock over 100 hours or less. The elder Scrolls series always have short main story arcs. You could complete oblivion in less than 10 hours. 300+ for Skyrim probably includes all the side quests. The main story for Skyrim wont be more than 20 hours long.60 hours and he's 1/4 of the way through, and 60x4=240 hours.
Skyrim is said to have 300+ hours of gameplay.
So......

 like Oblivion to Demon's Souls right?
 comparing games released 4 years apart. nice reach Its not about the age gap Demons Souls is the better game. Its actually better than a huge majority of games this Generation. If you havent played it or do not realise why and what it brought to the table for consoles thats your own problem.I can't wait to see the reaction this game will get from 360 players. Now, the only thing left is for From Soft. to show the PC some love ...verbalfilthMost 360 players will probably dislike it if they know its predecessors' was released on the PS3 only. Others wont know the brand so they will be sceptical of buying it. Oh and the Art work does not have a man with guns on the cover so that will effect sales on the 360 as well.
Well Oblivion wasnt too big for me since I uninstalled it (I was a hermit back then) after about 8 hours of gameplay bored to death with uninspired combat system and silly level scaling. Demons Souls, on the other hand, had brilliant combat system, innovative online implementation, great atmosphere and levelling your character actually made sense - thats why I put about 90 hours of gameplay into it.
Dark Souls vs Skyrim? Not even close for me unless Bethesda does something great with Skyrim. The last TES game I enjoyed was Daggerfall.

So...what we have here is a severe outbreak of Grossly Exaggerated Numbers in the industry?
I'm having a good laugh looking through this thread.
Firstly at all the people talking about Skyrim being a mainstream piece of ****. Back when Morrowind was out Elder Scrolls was anything but mainstream and was very much a niche game. Now that the company starts doing well and more people are interested in their games all of a sudden people will bash it simply for being popular.
Also have to laugh at the people mocking Drak Souls because "Buh buh buh Skyrim will have 300 hours of gameplay teh roXX0rzzz!" Right... because a game needs to be a lifetime long to be the better game... Also measuring games by previous GOTY awards... madness.
Anyway, Demon's Souls, Oblivion and Morrowind are my top 3 favourite RPGs of all time. I'm getting both Skyrim AND Dark Souls and have booked a week off work for them both so I can get some proper enjoyment from them. People doing the same will be the real winners, not the games themselves.
From Software is a small company, with small budget, who worked on their game for shorter period than Bethseda did on Skyrim. So of course Dark Soul won't have anywhere near the content of Skyrim.
Plus you will spend time on Skyrim adventuring, not dying over and over again like in DS. Altough I still think DS will be better game overall (propably worse RPG though)
Actually, I was watching the leaked gameplay footage from Dark Souls, and it looks like there's quite a bit of adventuring to do.From Software is a small company, with small budget, who worked on their game for shorter period than Bethseda did on Skyrim. Just because devs spend 5 years or more on making a game doesn't mean it'll be amazing, etc. Duke nukem foreverYou can't take that article seriously. :|
The most Skyrim has been played by any journalist is ONE HOUR. Dark Souls has been played for 60ish hours. Then he states some garbage about Skyrim like how it will have "randomly generated dungeons" and be "recycling" content.
He evidently didn't get the Bethesda memo that talked about HAND CRAFTED dungeons and caves (All 100+ of them),100%HAND CRAFTED environments, and RADIANT STORY (Tailors quests to your character, and aims at unique experiences for MULTIPLE play-throughs).
He also "conveniently" ignores how Skyrim has been worked on since Oblivion came out. (mostly conceptual stuff until Fallout 3 was released, I believe) That is 5 years, 3 if you want to ignore the conceptual stage. He also ignores how a team spent AT LEAST one year on building dragons alone, including an ENTIRE draconic language.
But I digress... I will buy, play, and enjoy both games.

Seriously though.... it's pretty obvious the article is pure nonsense, you can argue which game will be better, but believing DS will have content than Skyrim is just plain naive.
[QUOTE="casharmy"][QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"] It will sell more, I doubt it will score better.mems_1224
Metacritic score + GOTY awards says
Dark Souls > Skyrim, believe it.
if not who cares DS scored a 9.0 here on GS and still managed to be better than every 9.5 + rated game before it.
skytim will easily be better. its not even gonna be close lol good joke manAnd I was wondering when the first Skyrim vs DS threads would pop up...it was simply inevitable. Anyway, Skyrim on PC has pretty much more game time than you can play in a lifetime, thanks to mods, so enjoy your inferior console games.
Dont' care which one is bigger. They are both distinctly different role playing games and I am going to enjoy both for what each brings to the table. However, for the sake of the conversation, I will say that I think Skyrim will have the bigger world, but Dark Souls will have more variety in terms of environments and enemies. At the end of the day, they are both very large, yet very different sorts of games. Getting both this Fall is going to be pure bliss for me.

 like Oblivion to Demon's Souls right?
http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/demons-souls :| Btw, Skyrim has way more content. The author was dying a lot and thought Skyrim was randomly generated so didn't count it as "fresh content", which is wrong.Demons Souls gets far too much credit, its like console gamers are so dumbed down they are not use to dying alot in RPGs.... ... all this "Zomg its hard" hype is hilarious as sin. buying it day 1 ... but demon souls was a 8.0 to me .... a nice new experiance that needed alot of work.... and cheapness for the sake of cheapness is crap. "Oh the bosses were so hard" ... no ... like 2 of them were, the rest were a herb spamming joke.... infact the first hour of the learning curve was about the only true hard bit.
Its going to be a worse ROLE-PLAYING game than Skyrim, a worse exploring/adventure game than Skyrim.
And its going to fail in the meta-game-replayability of Diablo III.
"Buh buh teh hard." right?
60 hours and he's 1/4 of the way through, and 60x4=240 hours.

So......
But Darks souls will have unlimited random dungeons. Every each playthrough will be different experience. So.....60 hours and he's 1/4 of the way through, and 60x4=240 hours.

But Darks souls will have unlimited random dungeons. Every each playthrough will be different experience. So..... Just like all the other random dungeons they still have copy pasted segaments that you see over and over.... same as Diablo ect .... hardly the same as finding every knook and kranny in the giant world of skyrim ... and then ofcourse the PC version modding a hell of a lot more in overtime.Holy ****, if true i may even skip BF3 beta and just play DS hardcore until BF3 comes out.silversix_Even though the BF3 beta comes out before Dark Souls? Makes sense.
Aside from the hours it takes to beat Dark Souls, it also has online pvp. In Demon's souls it was a lot of fun. I logged a lot of hours just building different pvp characters and playing online.
The replay value of Dark Souls (if it is like Demon's souls) far exceeds any bethesda game imo.
And that means what? Dark Souls is a better game? I doubt its bigger than Just Cause 2.foxhound_foxNo, he didn't say that. Don't put words into peoples' mouths. It's obviously an impressive feat to have such a large amount of content. Not sure how that went over your head.
I prefer Dark Souls to Skyrim, not a big fan of the Skyrim medieval settings, Dark souls did it much better. Skyrim is basically trying to be the COD of RPG's.CODMan2014

Ikaruga is short but might take people longer to beat than most shmups due to extreme difficulty.
Dark Souls will not be bigger than Skyrim. If the dude put in 60 hrs. and is only 1/4 through the game a majority of that is most likely replaying areas over and over due to repeatedly dying.
[QUOTE="freedomfreak"]just cause 2 was awesome. if ever a game needed co op just cause is it...it had the ****ing island from lost!! Yeah, that island was lol.Great game. And Just Cause is bigger than Dark Souls.
