Dark Souls is GS's GOTY: poll

Soooo, dark Souls is my GOTY, maaaybe Skyrim can steal the crown, but it would have to be absolutely PERFECT then, not something Bethesda is known for...

Anyhow, since I'm a member of Gamespot since 2003 and am following the site since 1999 I predict Dark Souls as GS's GOTY!! Agree?

Why not? Dark Souls improves on an already GOTY. It improves a lot, actually. With more custom build character possibilities, factions that will influence multiplayer the next months, Symphony of the Night style castle that slowly unlocks, even cooler bosses and new mini bosses...the only thing I miss a little are the world tendencies.

I rented it from Redbox. I understand why people like this game but it is not for me. I do not think it will appeal to most gamers. If it gets GOTY it will be because the Gamespot crew is (this could be argued) hardcore gamers. It does not matter to me, I gave up on Gamespots opinions and reviews years ago.

Right now my games of the year are Gears 3, infamous 2, and i will guess Skyrim and Forza 4 will be up there on my list as well.

I will be dissapointed if it does win but it wouldn't surprise me.

Funny though, all this GOTY talk for so many games and it's early October with several big-time releases still to come this year.

Huge Demons Souls fan. I have yet to get Dark Souls, but I definitely will, when I can... and probably put it as one of my top games for the year. But I'll be highly surprised if it wins GotY here.

Saints Row 3 will be GOTYAY.

Skyrim and Zelda will be better

It's too early to say, Skyrim looks remarkably wonderful i must admit. But the fighting looks less and less exciting after playing Dark Souls. Skyrim also looks a bit slow.... you would really have to put your social life at risk to play that game. That's like playing an mmorpg by yourself that's definetly a turn off assuming the game has countless hours of gameplay to enjoy it to it's fullest. Zelda will not get GOTY even if it is really great. I have a feeling it wont in my gut. Still it is too early to say, Dark Souls does have an advantage for still being something fresh and well made. That leaves, GoW3 which i don't think will get it either for lack of originality. L.A Noire which most of us found teddious, and uncharted 3 which is the 3rd installment of the game so i would say samething as GoW3 lack of originality. I think Deus Ex should be included but i doubt it. Portal seems like a good potential candidate to win. IDK about the witcher... i found it really boring honestly, and lastly... Assassins creed is an unknown. We don't know how well that game will be made but we can all agree it has serious potential.

The score means nothing, remember SMG2 and GTAIV, let's say that only Kevin-V loved the game and the rest of the GS staff don't, then it could have a 10 and it won't get GOTY.

Skyrim also looks a bit slow.... you would really have to put your social life at risk to play that game.

This would be nothing new to fans of the Elder Scrolls series. It's one of the reasons people like those games so much, actually.

Dark Souls is more or less the same game as Demon's Souls, that would be like giving GOTY to a Call of Duty game or yearly sport series. A GOTY should have at least a bit of innovation, you know, something that sets the game apart from the bunch.

Gamespot will give it GOTY, to me The Witcher2 or Total War Shogun2 are GOTY for me personally so far (could change with BF3, Skyrim or Forza4).

Now I give it to Dark souls, but I won't feel robbed if skyrim win in the end or dark souls beat skyrim, nothing I played from PC, 360 and ps3 even came close to dark souls this year. it's highly unusual for 2 mega ton masterpiece like these 2 release in the same year(of coruse not that sub par ME2, DA crap)

Yes. It was called Uncharted 2 when I played it. And it was boring.

Well, it's the best game of the year so far for me and it would take some sort of miracle for any other game to better it this year, so yeah, I'd like to see it get GOTY.

No, not really, my second post said that GOTY is chosen by the entire GS staff and not only one person, that's why the score is meaningless when it comes to GOTY, and that's why if Zelda SS gets a 9.0 here it could still win GOTY if everyone votes for it instead of Dark Souls that got a 9.5, the same thing can be said if Zelda gets a 10, it wouldn't matter if at the end of the year GS staff votes Dark Souls as GOTY.

Dark Souls looks to be as strong of a contender as anything out so far, but like mentioned before, I really don't see GS giving it GOTY after doing so for their previous game, Demon's Souls.

To me, the other contenders out so far would be TW2, Portal 2, and Gears 3 (might be a long shot since Gears 1 won a few years ago, but the review was glowing) . Of course, with Skyrim, Zelda, Arkham City, UC3, and Assassin's Creed all still to be released, it's still wayyyyy to early to make your picks. This is coming up more and more, but until the games are all out....

Actually, watch it go to LA Noire. Now that'd be a good popcorn day here in SW. :lol:
