They're both great, but how can you compare them? They're completely different takes on the zombie apocalypse.

You can compare anything to anything else, it's not impossible at all. I swear even when games are in the same genre (ex. fps to fps) they say "you can't compare them because they're two different games." You can compare anything to anything else in the entire world, similarities, differences, pros, cons of each. Even if it's a bannana and a Megadeth album. Both are sold in stores, one you can eat, the other provides musical entertainment forever.

Now as far as answering the question, I say Left 4 Dead is the higher quality game, however Dead Rising 2 does provide an awesome open world with different possibilities and is just plain fun. But L4D seems way Way more polished and well put together.

For me, it has to be L4D2. Playing it 4 player co-op with friends is amazing, especially on expert mode.

edit: I love the Dead Rising series also. I was sad enough to get 1000/1000 achievement points on DR1 :P

Dead Rising 2. Its the essense of what Zombies Apoc is.. Takes the films that we grew up around, plus the new stuff and blends it together so well in game form. Overwhelming hordes, classic weapons to defend off with, psychos created from the shock of the event, the themes and places well known in films and such. I mean come on..

Dead rising 2 is a much better zombie game and less generic. For me its not even a contest. L4d2 seems weak in comparison.

L4D2 hands down! Better graphics, better gameplay, better multiplayer, better atmosphere. The zombies in dead rising 2 just stand there from what I was playing, I can just walk around them, I couldnt get away with that in L4D2 on any level.

To me L4D2 can be more exciting, should I say DR2 is a more "Realistic" Zombie game and horrifying game with only two player? I t has better story. Both gameplay are fun in my opnion.

Wrong. Blood thirsty zombies do not just ignore you as you walk by. Would you watch a zombie movie where the characters could walk up to a zombie, flip it off and then keep on walking? No, that would be a rip off.

Realistic? It's a game about zombies....I wouldn't use that word as zombies are not real. And Dead rising 2 isnt horrifying on any level. Its very cheesy and campy, all the zombies seem the same and rather harmless most of the time.

L4D doesn't really have zombies, they are infected 28 days later style.

I prefer the take of games like Resident Evil outbreak. Not many zombies but also lack of weapons around which give you the tense feeling that youre gonna die xD

DR2 may not look it but it has a very realistic view on a zombie outbreak. You see the Military trying to cover it up , people going insane and killing anyone in their path, looters and more. It shows humanity getting torn apart while l4d is more of '' No one is insane and the military is here to save us!!!''

DR2 by a landslide. LFD is just senseless zombie killing while DR2 has objectives, story, Survivors to save, bosses and lots of area to explore. LFD has simple level design, bad textures, terrible AI, very linear and a small weapon selection. DR2 has, far better AI design, big open areas, amazing weapon creation, better textures and character models. The difference in quality of these games in favor of DR2 makes me question as i always do, reviews overate games by certain developers just because of who they are. For LFD2 to outscore DR2 is just wrong. EDIT: One other thing i would like to add. DR2 is very believable for what may happen during a zombie out break.

Left 4 Dead 2 is incredible on pc, a bit weak on console in comparison. DR2 doesn't even have any ai at all, its just walk around and attack if you get close. Neither game has great graphics really, but both have great gameplay. DR2 is fun single player, L4d2 is fun multiplayer.

true, and I actually find both games hard to play on console. I mean after playing the pc version of both, the downgrade in performance is too much.

DR2 is also full of bugs, much more than L4D2. Enemies get stuck on the geometry, especially bosses, like the motorcycle guy. And DR2 has AI? Really? it does? You also really think that DR2 is believable? That some riot group will try to plead with everyone to let the zombies live? Seriously? That's not believable at all. Note: Responding to jdsifer01.

DR2 has no AI, the zombies act clueless with no real rhyme or reason, there is no strategy involved and the bosses seem just as lacking in any real logic. In L4D2 there is decent AI, you actually need strategy and to think to make it through. Most of all on harder levels because the zombies really are out to get you! Gives you an excellent feeling of I am gon die. Play the level hard rain, way better than anything on DR2. Still confuses about that black woman you save, she is standing on a counter and the zombie seem helpless to get her....sheesh.

The L4D franchise is built primarily as a coop game where as the Dead Rising franchise is single player. They are both interesting and good at what they were designed for and horribly annoying in the ways that they aren't.

Left 4 Dead 2: -Excellent game narrative; player driven, your idea of 'story' is dated. Because games stopped emulating film as far as 'story' was concerned long ago. -Excellent level design; it is impeccable for most of the part, criticizing it so is ludicrous - If you think that you should be questioning your own opinion -Bad textures? Weren't playing the PC version were you? -Bad AI? Really now? AI director is one of the most best examples of impressive AI in a game this generation. DR's aren't exactly impressive, next to L4Ds bots. -Very Linear = Negative? Linear level progression =/= linear gameplay. You fill find DR is embedded in a linear structure, much the same =| -Better character models? Compared to the survivors on the PC version, I would be extremely hard pressed. and are either believable if a 'zombie' outbreak was to happen? No. Because everything is based upon the games internal logic. As much as I like Dead Rising, gosh that is a poor argument.

i vote impossible to compare. both are great franchises. L4D is more about frantic multiplayer, while Dead Rising goes more for camp and sandbox play.

They are two completley different game types,

left 4 dead the zombies are actually dangerous, and you have to get to a safe zone but you don't really have to rush.

dead rising the zombies are kind of useless, but there are so many of them and your always on a time limit things can get a bit hairy, coupled with the inventory and there are really no reliable weapons

two different games where the pressure is from enemies vs setting really

i agree. the zombies in DR are more of an obstacle than anything else.

I like l4d2 because it has intense multplayer which has some pretty great moments. AI is good? All the zombies have to do is run towards you. It's not that complicated. Ya they climb things but thats it. The human AI though is crazy good. I thought I was still playing with real people online until I looked and saw their names over their head.

DR2 is better for me because it does have good AI (surviors follow you this time around) and whoever said that they could just run around zombies probbaly only played the first one because this time around there are way too many to just run by them, in the casino's at least. The bosses are hard to beat, go fight the tiger and his master and tell me that it wasn't hard (well I tamed the tiger so that was the hard part). And the time and the fact that "you can't save everyone" (unless you want a hard and frustrating time) gives it the desperation that horror games need.
