I absolutely loved Dead Space, I really think it raised my expectations for RE5. Haven't played the RE5 demo yet so I can't say how I feel about it yet, but DeadSpace is top notch. I only bought it because I found a deal where it was buy two games get one free and to think my last choice was Dead Space, it was the Best surprise of 2008 for me.EmperorSupreme
the same here i bought it used after i played the demo. iwas going to pass this game up but i bought and boy was i aw struck it was tense the whole game and i jumped thats a first in along time. but ill have to play the demo before i put my final judgment in effect

Since Res4 still blows Dead Space into... Space. I'll take a true sequel instead of a ripoff. Animal-Mother

Dead Space is far from a "ripoff".

honestly i know you dont like yahtzee and in his review he mentions how it rips off Event horizon, have you seen it?

So being inspired by a movie is now considered ripping off? Whatever.

Anyway, Dead Space had a tremendous atmosphere, and I think the people trashing it either haven't played the game or are jealous RE fanboys. RE 1-3 have a scary atmosphere at first, then you get used to it, and the zombies just aren't intimidating at all, eventually. The zombies are slow, stupid, and their voices get repetitive; the Necromorphs are vicious, psychotic beasts that can get to you at any time, and the Regenerator in Dead Space is scarier than any RE enemy. RE 4 is too open to have a scary atmosphere, and the same thing goes for RE 5. Dead Space wins, imo.

And I just beat System Shock 2...too bad Dead Space also didn't sell so well, but I hope at least it gets a sequel, unlike SS2 which
ended on a cliffhanger almost 10 years ago and still hasn't had a sequel
.

RE5 will probably be better in terms of story and of course presentation.

Dead Space will probably be better in terms of atmosphere and of course gameplay when RE5 hits stores.

You're seriously comparing a Demo to a full game?

Here's a thought: How about we wait until we've played and finished RE5 before comparing it to Dead Space?

Well i wouldn't say Dead Space is better then RE5, because i have not played the actual game of RE5. The demo impressed me, but not as much as i thought it would. The graphics are amazing, the controls take some getting used to, for me at least. I don't really think the whole co op aspect feels like RE, but whatever, since RE4 it left original gameplay to die.

Now for Dead Space, it has an intense atmosphere, im always looking around the corners. The enemies are very grotesque and beastly (i always wanted to say that word). The boss battle is one of the best boss battles i have ever played in a video game. The look of it, mixed with the sound and zero jumping from wall to wall trying to avoid the tentacles, my favorite next gen experience so far. I am only on chapter 8, so dont ruin anything!

I agree. Dead Space had a better setting, atmosphere, and weapons. The sequel will make people forget about the played out series that is RE.
Resident Evil stopped trying to be scary back with four. Atleast they're not trying and totally failing like Dead Space was. Talk about superficial atmosphere.finalfantasy94

Dead space had better atmosphere then RE4 and by the looks of it has better then RE5.

Dead Space had a decent atmosphere. It wasn't bad by any means, and certainly was consistent throughout the game when compared with RE4. RE5 on the other hands seems to just throw atmosphere out the window for flashy action. RE4 had a semblance of atmosphere at least for the beginning of the village portion.

Yep, I loved RE4 but for some reason RE5 was way too hard for me, and way more of the same. (Haven't tried Co-Op yet.)

And I friggin' love Dead Space.

Dead Space was an excellent game, but I feel that it's not quite in the same level as RE4. As for RE5.. it's too early to tell. But coop is definantly a good point for RE5.

I love Dead Space for simply defining itself as Dead Space, firmly establishing itself as a bold new IP. As an overall game, I think I will probably end up liking Dead Space better, myself. However, I also love RE for simply being what it is. Certain gameplay elements that made RE4 such a success have been carried over to RE5 because it was so successful with with RE4. Such as the clausterphobic controls, and not being able to move while shooting. These things are done on purpose to add to the element of suspense and the overall "oh my god, they are everywhere" vibe the series is famous for.

That being said, I find it ridiculous that anyone who actually enjoyed RE4 would be upset that Capcom would not try to one-up Dead Space by utilizing some of it's gameplay elements in order to "evolve the series." This is RE we are talking about, and it plays like RE should, with a proven and highly successful formula. They just decided to add a little more action this time around, while keeping everything else the same for the most part. With all of the visuals and special effects that will be on display, I hardly think that is anything to complain about either. Of course opinions do vary, lol.
honestly i know you dont like yahtzee and in his review he mentions how it rips off Event horizon, have you seen it?

I'm playing Dead Space right now and I own Event Horizon so I have to ask, have YOU seen Event Horizon? So far (Just got to chapter 7) Dead Space doesn't rip off Event Horizon at all. For one Event Horizon's plot is completely different compared to Dead Space. Dead Space has humans infected by an alien virus whereas in Event Horizon they opened a dimension to hell with the ship. Secondly, in Event Horizon you don't fight enemies (or human/alien mutants) by cutting their limbs off because everyone is getting possessed by demons and offing themselves or their crew mates. The only thing Event Horizon has in common with Dead Space (other than being sci fi and in space) is the derelict ship getting help from another and the black captain but the similarities between the two captains aren't close enough to make most people think they are similar. In my opinion, Dead Space has many more similarities with the movie Sunshine. In Sunshine the oxygen supply goes sour (not in the same manner as dead space but still a crucial event both share), the main computer in the game and movie sound quite similar, and both the movie and the game have a rogue figure who is set out to exterminate the human race. In the end though I think Dead Space is an excellent game (so far). It's a gripping horror game which can sometimes be repetitive but the atmosphere is truly frightening if you allow the game to suck you in. Plus, the sequences where you are in zero gravity or in a vacuum are very fun and help break up the repetitive gameplay. I've been surprised that the game has been as enjoyable as it has, so far I'm having more "fun" playing it than I did Resident Evil 4. Yahtzee complains about weapons being too powerful and having too much ammo but I've ran out of ammo multiple times and been sliced in half or decapitated multiple times too. The only thing that has bothered me is not getting enough power nodes to upgrade my weapons or suit. Dead Space is a great game and gives Resident Evil a run for its money.

YES I HAVE SEEN EVENT HORIZON! With Laurence Fishbourne and how dr. Wier basically becomes nut yeah i've seen it

Please I never said Dead space was bad I own it and love it, you guys need to get a grip, but seriously dead space is event horizon with aliens, and in essence the marker is the "chaos" or "pure evil"dimension

Then how does Dead Space rip it off? Perhaps I misunderstood but I thought you were trying to support Yahtzee's claim that it rips off Event Horizon which, as I stated above, doesn't seem to be the case. I mean correct me if I'm wrong but I think Dead Space has a somewhat unique story, especially when we consider how the human/alien things have to be killed.

First off, if you've watched dead space downfall, you would know that both crews brutally murdered each other. If you replaced the necromorphs with crazy crew memebers trying to murder you it'd be event horizon, But it has the necromorphs and marker to differentiate that. But like I said, In essence the marker is the pure evil dimension from Event horizon I mean if you think about it, the Hyperdrive in event horizon is the marker

It was influenced by Event Horizon in some aspects. Too bad the Iron Maidens are a joke. They're the same as regenerators (RE4), just with extra parasites (and you don't even need to shoot the parasites to kill them). Take out the BB or K7 and just fire away, they'll die in a few shots. The regenerator in DS will get up again and again no matter what you do (full on contact beam with maxed upgrades to the head won't stop the thing).

Plus he's fast and chases you through vents and ducts, allowing him to traverse different rooms.

Ya it's a scripted event both of them you can only kill him one way, when you hit the jet engine and i forgot the other one

Well i didn't watch Dead Space Downfall yet, I kinda realized the crew went nuts but to me there's a big difference between people turning into aliens vs people turning into demons or possessed in some way. It's kinda like Doom the movie vs Doom 3. Doom the movies has a terrible experiment go wrong whereas in Doom 3 they open a dimension from hell (or something like that). I still haven't gotten through all of Dead Space so I dunno what the marker thing is but I don't see how the ship has the same character as the one in Event Horizon since in the movie we are told the ship went to hell and back. I'm not saying they don't have similarities, but I am saying that Dead Space does not rip off Event Horizon from what I have played through so far.

Resident Evil 5 first of all is not a finished product, that demo is from E3 Secondly comparing a full game to a demo is just plain nonsense

Let's compare 2 10 minute levels of the beggining part of a game to a full polished complete retail game, yeah sounds like a good idea.

honestly i know you dont like yahtzee and in his review he mentions how it rips off Event horizon, have you seen it?Animal-Mother

And I just beat System Shock 2...too bad Dead Space also didn't sell so well, but I hope at least it gets a sequel, unlike SS2 which
ended on a cliffhanger almost 10 years ago and still hasn't had a sequel
.

I never said it rips off, I said how yahtzee said it, But it's definatly heavily influenced by Event Horizon and you can't deny that Are you serious have you know what the iron maidens are in RE4 right?

Yeah I have Event Horizon on DVD (one of the reasons I was excited for Dead Space, along with System Shock 2) but it's not a rip-off. The look of Event Horizon seems to be the biggest influence, but the story and characters are different. And if being inspired by a movie means you can create the kind of incredible visual style that Dead Space, then I think that's a good thing.

Glad you were able to draw your conclusion based off of 20 minutes of RE5. :|

Dead Space was awesome, if RE5 comes close to Dead Space I would be very happy.

I loved Dead Space. I'll probably love RE5 too. Remember the demo is missing things like weapon upgrades, storyline, continuity... those are all important to the game and you can't say RE5 sucks because you played 10 minutes of the game in demo form...

Dead space is the new 'resident evil 4'.
Time for everyone to face it.

I agree, dead space is better than re5, so far anyway.
Id imagine dead space to deliver really well if dead space felt like there was room for improvement which there is.

Resident Evil 5 will be better. I did like Dead Space, but not as much as some of the people on here, apparently.

I haven't played either, but from what I do know about RE4 and Dead Space, I'm assuming that if RE5 is similar to RE4, then yeah, you're right.

RE4 is cool because it's scary. But then it stops becoming scray, so it loses sense of atmosphere and fails to be engaging. Dead Space, on the other hand, is supposedly a really atmospheric game.
