Looks like more typical Kojima nonsense. Appearing children's hands, a scar on the stomach, glowing handcuffs, black goo on his hands, a synthetic umbilical cord. Let me take a wild guess here:

Guy woke up not knowing where is is, birthed the cyborg baby boy through a self-operated c-section (which nano-machines quickly fixed after wiping his memory) after he was modified to allow pregnancy as a young boy by the Lo Le Var Du Duds (the five objects in the sky), a clandestine alien race whose ultimate goal is to repopulate their planet by fishing the ocean dry, mulching everything up into black goo, and telepathically leaving gooey fish hand prints everywhere as a sign to our government that the impending alien-war-imperial-fishing-industrial-complex (or AWIFIC for short) is on the move. But this is not what's actually happening, for two hundred years ago.....

Did that make any sense? No? Then Kojima can hire me and thank me later. I can't wait to get my fill of laughs from his "writing". He designs incredibly well made games technically and mechanically, but the guy can't write for shit, and unfortunately thinks he can. All the worse, then we have to suffer his fans claiming him the next Shakespeare.

Some of the themes or topics he went into in MGSV were rather interesting and I thought at moments he might actually be getting somewhere interesting and he does develop some story elements that get me excited but then he does a complete 180 and introduces some supernatural element or Shyamalan twist that completely destroys whatever was going for it. I haven't played the other games other than Snake Eater so I can't really comment on them.

Disgusting joke. Really makes me sick.

@madsnakehhh:

Yes it was. That whole big boss being a women was lame. Eve was also bad written character.

With MGS4, I think he went overboard with the length of the cutscenes/dialogue. I'll give him a little credit for addressing previous games in one game.

This thread highlights the problem with Xbox games, if its not a sweaty muscular man with guns the fanbase CAN'T understand or comprehend the game.

Different, intellectual, imaginative, "kiddy", action etc can be done in a variety of ways. Kojima deffinitely always has my attention, and I respect Sony for always having an eye for new interesting content.

The vision for this game is quite clear. It's just another "Norman Reedus clutching dead-baby amongst bloated whale carcasses, while angels float in the sky simulator". That's all..

@PSP107: Which the other ones are better at, mgs5 is more flowing in animations and stuff and it looks much prettier, however for one thing, what you're doing is part of the gameplay, mgs5 is literally a "infiltrate this base", "run around the map to fight tanks", "fulton sheep" simulator.

Sorry but it's repetitive and gets boring, there is really no reason to go back to it.

MGS4 has much better combat and bosses, it also has reason to do said things.

@putaspongeon:

MGS5 missions may have the same concept, but the openes and different ways you can approach them made them fun. You can literally spend 1-2 hrs in one mission trying to complete every objective.

MGS4-

Act 1- Go from point A to B

Act 2- Go from point A to B

Act 3- Follow a guy, bike chase and boring boss fight.

Act 4 - Trip down to memory lane was ok but it was still just going one end to the other.

Act 5 - Going from one end to the other with a quick time event boss fight with Liquid.

All that could be completed in 2-5 hours.

Cutscenes/Codecs added another 10 hours though =(

I'm guessing that this will be a sci-fi/horror game. The handcuffs were lighting up and there's a cord connecting Reedus to the baby. The baby turned invisible and slipped through Reedus' hands because there was suddenly oil on his hands. There are hand prints being made, some by the baby and some by someone else.

Is that necklace on Reedus for style or something else? What is that scar on his belly? He has no bellybutton. Why are they naked? Dead sea animals are washed up to the shore. What are these 5 people/things floating in the air? Then they disappear.

Kojima is known to troll his fans when it comes to this kind of trailer, so I'm surprise when I saw this at E3 for the first time. Oh well, cannot give out my opinion on this yet until we see more to come.

He sure does like to troll, and I agree, I have no strong opinions about the game until it's out.

I have more faith in Kojima's competence, but still not sure what he has planned with Death Stranding.

I'm pretty sure the reveal of this was exactly that. a sweaty naked muscular man

With that said, It's usually the younger teenage "still trying to figure themselves out" people that like the weird quirky stuff because it gives them the illusion of being different and being an individual. once you hit about 25 you really learn not to care what other people think and you like what you like without judges others for what they like. 10 years from now you'll look back and be like WTF did i buy or play "X" game. trust me I know I have.

I disagree. I fail to see why making the Boss a woman is lame...if anything, it makes the character much more interesting. Eve was heavily based on Bond girls, that's why she is not as bad as the rest of the females in the franchise (again, with the exception of the Boss).

So yes, Kojima is a mediocre writter at best, but his best work is still MGS3.

MGS3 > MGS1 > MGS2 > MGS5 >>> MGS4.

Alright, alright, I'll solve this one for you.

Reedus is Kojima. The handcuffs represent his career with Konami. The baby is Silent Hills. The "dog tags" are the MGS games that Kojima considers canon, MGS1, 2, 3, 4, PW, and V. The five floating figures either represent MGSV, or the studios that tried to get Kojima on board after he left Konami. The dead whales would represent Moby Dick Studios (former Kojima productions).

Dude can craft excellent gameplay and his track record speaks for himself.

Remember Zone of Enders ..... it sucks

Zone of the Enders was Noriaki Okamura's game.

Kojima only produced ZOE (unlike MGS which he directs/writes/produces) and when discussing Gameplay, ZOE had great gameplay despite Kojima's lack of involvement (busy crafting MGS2 at the time), although I did find ZOE disappointing as a game, the actual gameplay was tight.

Remember Zone of the Enders 2 (The 2nd Runner)? That was helmed by Shuyo Murata, who did a fantastic job!

ZOE2 was the game ZOE should have been and was absolutely amazing thanks to Murata. Shame you seemed to miss the sequel (understandable considering ZOE was average), as even NG (2004) creator, Tomonobu Itagaki, loved ZOE 2.

That said, I was talking about Gameplay and ZOE still excelled at the gameplay aspect, ESPECIALLY ZOE 2, but those games were not Kojima directed, just produced.

Much like we see Spielberg produce a movie (Transformers Dark Side of the Moon), the credit goes to the director Michael Bay (yes, I deliberately chose to compare Spielberg to Bay, lol). Credit goes to the director, good or bad. We see legendary creator and director Miyamoto produce many Nintendo projects these days, but again, credit goes to the director like Eiji Aonuma who directs the Zelda games now.

Death Stranding will be Kojima Directed, Written, and Produced (according to the end trailer credits). Again, Kojima can craft excellent gameplay as he is all in for this game. He knows the world is watching his post-MGS efforts. Kojima balancing gameplay with realism, and his attention to details in gameplay can be pretty entertaining.

Big Boss was never a woman. You've confused Big Boss (Naked Snake) with his predecessor, who was just called The Boss.

You see, the when Kojima was a young man in the late 80's crafting his first game (released in early 1990), his original old MSX (and NES, although he didn't port it) Metal Gear game, you played a green, rookie named Solid Snake who's big bad enemy at the end was a generic character named "Big Boss". Lol, so late 80's-early 90's videogames and the generic titles. It's all we had. I'm sure he didn't imagine that the Metal Gear Universe would suck up the majority of his career when he was making the game. In fact, the whole stealth element was due to the limitation of the graphics at the time, as computers could only hold so many characters on one screen.

What Kojima did with MGS3 nearly 15 years later was attempt to make such a generic title like "Big Boss", actually seem relevant and cool tying in to his very first old school Metal Gear game way back in the July of 1990.

The Joy, who later became The Boss died and Big Boss, her student, replaced her.

MGS3 released in 2004, you've had over a decade to get these details right before lodging a complaint. If you are going to have an issue, it's best you understand what it is you are tackling.

I remember first playing MGS3 and finding out The Boss was a woman and being surprised and disappointed as I knew Metal Gear's Big Boss was a man. I figured Kojima just wanted to write out the Metal Gear part of the story...BUT in a neat twist, the Boss and Big Boss titles are all explained by the game's completion. Kojima didn't forget.

It seems you perhaps skipped the ending of MGS3, didn't complete the game, or maybe just didn't understand what was going on.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, is this a gender complaint in general? Remember, The Boss was Russian, and Russians were known to employ women in the battlefield during WWII (History 101 and specifically World History touches on these issues and why). The Boss was known as Voyevoda, and became Naked Snake's mentor later. She was the boss of the Cobra Unit after WWII. Kojima just pulled that idea of a Russian woman soldier from history, which was pretty neat and made sense considering MGS3's theme of the Cold War (US vs. Russia primarily in the course of that game).

Some people to this day still don't realize that the main character in MGS3 is not Solid Snake and that The Boss is not Big Boss. Kind of hard to miss that bit, especially if you've beaten the game. Or, ya know, put two and two together and realize that the young character you play as in the 90s and 2000s isn't the same young character you play as in 1964 lol.

Not saying that that's what PSP107's mistake stems from, but it is a common one nonetheless. Even self proclaimed MGS fanboys like Greg Miller can't seem to wrap their brains around such a simple timeline. The people who cheer for the MGS story the most are often the ones who understand it the least. It's weird like that lol

I almost didn't bother either, lol.

You are right, heck I remember being surprised as I've spoken to Cosplayers (dressed as MGS1 Liquid and Solid) at Comicon who didn't know the difference between Naked Snake and Solid Snake. Presumably, they didn't play past the first game as they didn't seem to be able to keep up the conversation on the games (great outfits though, got some snazzy pics), but I like to think people these days just use the power of google for their costumes rather than be bothered to actually complete games/watch/read source material. That analogy works beyond MGS, I've met "superhero" cosplayers that don't own/read many comics. It's very "in" right now to just go, pay to get in, and mosh with other sweaty pseudo-fans salivating at future dates of 2-hour movies they can sit and enjoy one day.

So, with my experiences, I too have come across "fans" that don't really seem like real fans, but maybe they are super fans but also just dumb.

I'm not knocking the 'Con, I enjoy it (getting deals on swag)...but yeah, about some MGS fans (and other media), I think you are onto something. Part of it is clearly Kojima's fault, he does tend to get bizarre and nuts about a lot of things, but The Boss and Big Boss thing wasn't one of them. Although, maybe he's not a fan and never beat MGS3 or something. The ending of MGS3 addressed and corrected what he has been confused about for about 11 years.

I had no idea about that Greg Miller stuff. He didn't know much about MGS and claimed to be an MGS fanboy? For a personality, you'd think he'd do some homework. I know of his work mostly peripherally but the anecdote is amusing.

@SolidTy: "What Kojima did with MGS3 nearly 15 years later was

attempt

to make such a generic title like "Big Boss", actually seem relevant and cool tying in to his very first old school Metal Gear game way back in the July of 1990."

Cool? I don't think so.

That's why I said "attempt", because Kojima was stuck with a silly name choice he made in his youth nearly 15 years prior on what he probably figured was a stepping stone to some other franchises. Ultimately, whether he succeeded in making the generic name "cool and relevant" (or not) rests on the person. What you and I think is irrelevant on what we think is "cool". What we find "cool" doesn't matter as I only told you what Kojima was trying to do. He was working with his old source material crafted in a different time (when games were different, game culture was FAR different, and when a young Kojima's was cranking out some game quickly). Person buys game, plays as some soldier, and works to beat the "Big Boss" of the game. Game over.

I simply gave a lesson on the Big Boss history as you posted some incorrect information about the character. I gave some background information on Kojima and why he was forced to use that silly "Big Boss" moniker when he was designing MGS3's story, a game set in the 1960's far before Solid Snake was born. A game starring the future enemy of Solid Snake, Naked Snake before he graduates to Big Boss.

What is cool varies per person and to that I say, to each their own, man.

Either way, Big Boss was never a woman. You were incorrect about that and confused Big Boss with The Boss, his mentor.

@SolidTy:

Dude, listening to Greg Miller talk MGS is hilarious. Just a couple of "recent" examples off the top of my head.

I remember him speculating that cyborg Raiden would show up in MGSVs story. Like he had no idea that the events of MGSV and Raiden becoming a cyborg are separated by nearly 30 years lol.

One funny bit was watching him play MGSV while sitting next to a Konami rep leading up to release. Aside from being total shit at the game, he kept on saying Fulsome Recovery System instead of Fulton... yet he regularly claims that Peace Walker is his favorite game of all time. The Konami rep called him on it (as well as a dozen other things), shit was great. I mean, I don't expect you to remember every term from a game correctly, but if you claim it's your all time favorite? And you're a game journalist for a living? Come on now.

Shit, Greg couldn't even beat Ground Zeroes. Said it's too hard... it amazes me that these are the voices that gamers listen to.

But yeah, any time Greg talks MGS it's a treat. He always leads in with some shit like "I'm the biggest MGS fan around!" and then proceeds to drop some bullshit.

The trailer was rather disturbing.. Not sure what to make of this game. I'll take the wait and see approach but I'm not exactly "looking forward" to this game.

What are you some of you taking about? Kojima made a retarded and super confusing trailer about a baby, oil in the ocean, dead fish and some type of aliens looking down on their power things at The Walking Dead. Yeah that trailer made me squeal. I was honestly embarrassed for Kojima and hes retardness. He walked out on stage and presented this crap? He should finish his last game...no ending. Ohhh just replay 10 more of previous missions and let's call it the day in MGS5.

@SolidTy:

What you mean wrong information on Big Boss? The only mistake was calling the female Big Boss even though she was referred to as Boss.

Clearly I think you knew what I meant.

People are still surprised when something weird comes out of Japan? Are you new? Anyways, it is Kojima so it will certainly be awesome.
