@Arkhalipso: Yes there is a difference. I don't believe human beings are capable of objectivity in terms of assessing entertainment. All of our likes/dislikes, preferences and biases are a part of us. It isn't possible to put these things aside and be objective about entertainment imo. The experiences of our lives always play a part in every thing we take in and do.

Rating but not popularity? But if more people rate something high that means they liked it and if more people liked it that means it is more popular so popular opinion is still what it boils down to.

What it comes down to for me is, I don't need others approval to state I liked something. I don't need to bring up whether other human beings rated it high. I do look for consistency and integrity but we humans often fail at that also.

This... game.. and I hesitate to call it that looks absolutely terrible. I have still yet to see even one thing that even slightly interests me. This coming from someone who buys just about everything and it is very rare I don't buy an open world game. I guess I don't see the point, and I doubt there really is one.

@cainetao11: I sort of skipped through the video and didn’t see much besides a huge backpack, some running around, and some pretty basic melee combat. Don’t really have time to sit through a 50 minute video but then again, I seen enough gameplay from previous presentations as it is, but if anyone has any doubts, I strongly wait for reviews even more so but I'm already on-board. I don't have any love for Kojima but this is a new IP game after all, so yeah.

Kojima is pretty consistent with the quality of gameplay, but DS really feels like it’s going to be hit or miss this November and I be really surprise if this gets GOTY contender.

This isn't directly towards you cainetao11, this is for the rest of this thread. Think it's called the Social Strand System and Death Stranding does look like an interesting departure from just regular video games. It has action and stealth and boss fights but the main goal of Death Stranding seems be to unite a fractured and terrorized dead nation from what it looks like... using like grenades using your own blood and your own urine as grenades lol... riding on that hoverboard and delivering stuff on those bikes looks fun especially while fighting/incapacitating those mook looking scientist nazi bio-hazard looking enemies. Looking back at this fully 50 vid, I think if this game was linear and not set in open-world, it would be fine, but I mean, I guess if you decide to play it in a linear-style, it could turn out to be okay. We'll have to wait and see once DS is release.

With all of that said, this is clearly a slow-burn game. If this isn't your thing, I recommend you just buy Doom: Eternal, that game has lots of nonstop action over the top shooter compare to DS and this is clearly a slow-burn of a game.

@davillain-

Actually the open world and the social stuff is very appealing. Its the kinda of open world that I can get in to. The stuff that made MGS5 game play good. BTOW was plain and basic link whatever pause hit combat actually suck. That "Hiyaaaaaa" shit sucks. Its the dynamic things around that makes it great for me.

Nothing wrong with something of similar but different. Nothing wrong with an open world delivery game as long as the gameplay is systemic enough to fool around. I mean folks play lots of the indie travel gather materials make shit games all the time.

The issue for me is umm let met try to put it this way. It is becoming like that one star ocean game with the lil girl. I use to love Star Ocean but that became too weird for me lol. Here its getting to be a bit too much for me. The bb, private room, feet and walking balance management shit is too much. Not the kinda game play I m interested in.

@davillain-: Look the thing is when you show me gameplay it should be selling me the game. GAMEPLAY is why I play first and foremost. If Im looking to be entertained by a great story games aren't my first choice of medium. Im gonna pick up a book as nothing has outdone literature in world building, character development or story telling yet. Film is second and games aren't in their ballpark.

I pick up a game first and foremost for gameplay and what was shown was dung. If carrying luggage and shit is exciting to you guys, I'm moving in 3 weeks. You're all welcome to come move my shit out and to my next place.

I waited and really want to like a new creation from Kojima and I may end up doing so down the road. But based on what I saw? No, I'm not spending $60 on it in November when there are so many other games that Im gonna want to play like Star Wars, Doom etc. I'll wait for DS to be $30 in 2020.

@Arkhalipso: MGS4 has a 71 minute stretch where the player does nothing. Almost 9 hours of total cutscenes... The average gameplay run through is 5-7 hours. There is more movie than game. And when the game portion runs well below 30fps, it puts things into perspective. Performance has become a sticking point in critical reviews this generation. MGS4 would get killed for its frame rate in 2019.

@goldenelementxl: I don’t believe that. I think somethings get a pass and Kojimas MGS games qualify. MGSV is no where near the level of praise heaped on it but it’s Kojima.

Mechanically it’s great but as a whole package it wasn’t what critics heaped on it.

After watching the full 48 minute video I'm now fully on board. IRONICALLY, it's the switch up haters have been claiming they want from Sony but now backtrack because it's not a usual paint by the numbers shooter they see every year.

Typical!

There is something amazing that Kojima is doing with this game. It's going to be an experience.

We already knew it want's going to be a "traditional" game before this new trailer was shown. So what's the issue? Ironically that same idiots who claim that all Sony games are the same are trying to shit on Death Stranding for not being the same old traditional games we see shit out every year.

What happened to you hypocrites crying and screaming for Sony to take risks? Why aren't you haters supporting this?

This may be the most "risky" and ambitious AAA of this entire generation...are you not entertained?

Just STFU hypocrite fanboys...ALL the games you haters are looking forward to now are the usual brainless rehashed shit titles you claimed to be tired of.

This game isn't for ADHD instant gratification gamers or people looking for their usual brainless shooters and violence with no point. By all means people who are shitting on this game (mostly the usual "all games are the same" sony haters) stick with your brainless rehashed shooters. This game wasn't aimed towards your shallow minded demographic to begin with.

Cutscenes that you can skip if you so choose to and which wrap up the series very nicely if you decide to watch. Performance is a point to consider when a game is unplayable, which MGS4 is far from. Those who measure the quality and value of a game only in pixels and frames would tell you otherwise probably.

It sure as hell took me a lot more than that to finish my first playthrough, and if I take into account the other 8 times I played the game, then that's a lot of gameplay time. Have you even played the game? What's quite ironic about it is that you complain about the amount of cutscenes in the game, and yet you people seem to spend a lot of time watching videos of other people hating on the game (because clearly you can't find excuses of your own) so that you can feel better about yourself not liking something that a lot of people do.

I don't really mean to be rude, but only a moron would judge a game because it has or lacks something that some other generic games have/don't have. It all depends on the game. Let game reviewing to people who actually love the medium rather than those who just like to look at a pretty and fluid sequence of images. Have a nice day.

@hrt_rulz01: Well I do respect your opinion more than most around here, so it's all good. I just think that quite a few on this board are hating just to hate. Whatever though. IMO the game looks like something new, and fresh. Like I think this may be an entirely new form of gameplay, something that has never been done before. It's subtle in the trailers and gameplay vids and whatnot, but I just get this sense that we're in for something beyond simple novelty. I'm super intrigued, to say the least. But that's just me.

@goldenelementxl: Remember all of those old school games that used to give you a score? The point of the game would be to make it to the end, but to also see if you could make that score go higher -- challenge yourself. Some of those games could be completed in 20 minutes. I still play many of those today. In fact, these still inspire much of (good) modern game development. Some devs even still make the same types of games.

Now, MGS4 -- let's talk about it. I beat the game in less than 3 hours back in 2008 to achieve a higher score (in fact, in the highest category possible which it calls "big boss" rank; I took a picture on a digital camera). Does the game having whatever hours of cutscenes subtract from this aspect of a game? Does it need to be x hours long or have an a:b ratio of gameplay to demonstration to be considered good? What else can make a game genuinely good?

I could continue going on with this, but I hope you consider these rather than joining a hate chorus for a developer who makes critically acclaimed games. Also, if your main criticism is that it has y hours of cutscenes, therefore it is bad, you really *need* to think it through more before you express an opinion, because you will have to take responsibility for said opinion. Like what @Arkhalipso is saying to you. That is up to you of course, if you want to appear a certain way.

@uninspiredcup: Oh. It's still great. I would play it if I had my PS3 hooked up. I would also play any Quake game any day, especially over most modern shooters, but that's another discussion imo. One I think you'd agree with btw.

Why? Lol.

Anyway, you might be right. Who knows?! It'll probably have interesting themes/an interesting story, but I'd be concerned about game play from what we've seen. Anyway, time will tell :)

@subspecies I would say part of the hate justifiable is the whole hype around the guy and the way he embraces it. Not very humble in a sense. The game is not really new. Its really hard to claim something new when it comes to games. Different style and context. The vibe of the game is very similar to a lot of indie games. These explore collect and build shit games. Games like Astroneer for example. I'm sure there are things they are not showing but so far some aspect are like "this game that game type a thing". You know people can say things like "oh that's just like the souls game" etc. However extensive the elements are. The big difference here is its going to be wrapped around Kojima cinematic story telling and his past work. Being humble will be not to proclaim your creating a new genre. The funny thing is actually the game can be very interesting. Bringing that type experience to the masses and see if they like it is not a bad thing.

I skipped around a few times and saw nothing really exciting. I'm not expecting much from the gameplay department. I'm pretty much going into this game for the weirdness and atmosphere.

ZOE games scored 71 and 78 on meta, neither getting a single score higher than 9. Most scores were in the 70s, 60s.

Edit: ZOE The 2nd Runner got one 10, the second highest was an 86.

For a game to be a score attack, challenge based game, things like framerate and gameplay need to be tight and top notch. MGS4 is neither of those... For MGS4 to be considered great, we need to take into account the 9 hours of cut-scenes, the 71 minute hands off finale, and the 20fps enemy encounters. Nah son...

Kojima stole from 80's, early 90's western cinema. (and beyond) Here is a list of well over 50 influences for his "genius" story. Can we cut the shit? Dude isn't that special and his games are super overrated. The game portions run like shit and the story is meh at best.

@goldenelementxl: dude isn't that special... The amount of people who cried when Silent Hills got cancelled after the P.T. demo, and the amount of devs that copied the formula would say otherwise.

The formula was popularized by Amnesia: The Dark Descent

The Small minds who can't grasp revolutionary game. Go back to your generic dude bro shooters. Meanwhile we, who appreciate great unique games will play this.

nothing revolutionary about game with most cutscene and walking sim with bad combat.

these "dude bro" shooters have more gameplay than these games.

But my friend, you'll be able to link societies with strands.

Which isn't another way of saying "unlock shit".

Having an objective review of Metal Gear Solid 4 without the attachment to its series isn't a big feat. It's better when you have grown alongside it and managed to look back without the emotional bias. It's the same thing as learning how to detach your mind after putting so much thought into it as if you had never experienced it but did. Manage your fun and you'll see that the old becomes new for the sake of an objective review without setting your mind to it.

I'l still try and reserve judgement, but that gameplay and the one after were so boring, if that's what it's gonna be like, I won't be buying.

From Coolyfett's perspective this game does not look fun. Props to anyone that has the ability to enjoy it though. No judgment zone.

@whatafailure: Yep, your post pretty much sums up the situation. This game is either a huge hit or a huge miss. If your profile name is anything to go by, DS will be a failure.

At 30,27 in the video, it actually starts to look a little more interesting. Still, what kind of game IS this?

Gameplay in a game shouldn't be a rare sighting. People shouldn't be trying to figure out what you do in your game after 3 years or a few months from release. A 48 minute video is not required to show core gameplay elements. The hate this game is receiving has less to do about Sony, Kojima, graphics etc and more to do with the actual game. Believe it or not, people still like playing games.

Generally that is true but love hate in SW can be all of the above. Subtract Sony, Xbox, Nintendo and any other so called acclaimed creators they choose to tout. Sit back and watch the factions shift. On the real, the question should be what the **** is gameplay to people and is it good or bad. Lets be honest what was shawn you obviously going to be playing. Its up to you to decide if the loop is boring or not.

Hey guys, I have multiple options to approach things, including "go another route", new type of open-world game.

you're absolutely right.

but i still just can't believe that, after a lacklustre exclusive offering in 2019, sony will let some pretentious gameplay-lite diarrhoea dribble out the arse end of the year for them. even though all the evidence says otherwise i can't help but wonder if there's a degree of smoke and mirrors going on here with what we're being fed

@cainetao11: he didn't show any main gameplay so you response is retarded. If your fav game showed the most basic and easy parts it for 50 mins , the world would call it "boring" as well.

When the game is out and the aspects of gameplay that hes obviously hiding comes to light well see who has the last laugh lol
