Honestly, I hated this game with a passion. I love a challenge and everything, but this game just lacks a soul. I swear I've played this game 10 or so years ago and it was superior.

I own this game and it does nothing for me. The environment and just the atmosphere takes me back to my times with the awful KuF: CoD. It's not quite similar, as this is way more hardcore and difficult, but it just lacks something. It's just freaking boring.

Because i like it when the underdog wins. I havn't played any of the games on that list so i just chose one i think deserved it the most.

Left 4 Dead 2 wins in my book... But Demon's Souls was my 2nd pick. :D

Expected Uncharted 2 to win. Wanted Arkham Asylum to win. Didn't expect Demon's Souls to win. Guess it's time I give this grammatically wrong titled game a shot (unless, of course, there is a character in the game named "Demon" and that he has multiple souls).

I really wanted it to win because it came out from nowhere....and because it would shock/annoy fanboys. :lol:

If it's a good game, who cares if it only appeals to a small niche? Aren't simulators and sports games eligible for GOTY?

I do not understand what it is you seek to disprove. That the only thing I dislike more than dungeon crawlers is an unforgiving difficulty forcing repetition on you? Because I do. That's the truth. I don't need to play a game which incorporates those concepts to know this. Kind of like how you don't need to eat dirt to understand that you shouldn't.

Well even though I love UC2 I have no problem with DS winning. I need to play my still wrapped up deluxe edition of the game. Congrats to DS and it sounds like a solid pick by gamespot even though I think UC2 is going to be my best game. Either way PS3 has the best GOTY for 2 years straight.

I felt exacly like you but I got the game anyways and I agree with Gamespot on GOTY. Try this game before passing it on because it's a gem much like the game in your sig. ;)

I personally think that it was good that Demons Souls won because smaller developers like from software need this kind of recognition. All too often, games like demons souls come out and are overlooked by many. If games like beyond good and evil and Okami got the recognition they deserved then we might have actually seen sequels to them. Hopefully, From Software is able to see that they have a good thing with this game and continue on with the series.ycole11

Im pretty sure they do, its not easy for them to just pick 1 game, they do research, get the nominated games, ask those that played the game and everygame then a lot and a lot of things to get the final game, im pretty sure its not easy to win so yup if DS won it means its indeed one amazing game

No one can deny its awesomeness. But more awesome then other games that actually scored higher? Sure why not. It's not like scores mean anything anyways. It's not like MGS4 won in 08 scoring the highest, or Gears of War winning it scoring the highest in 07 (I can't remember if it did score the highest, but I think it did).

Oh man, even just on the last page of this thread, the lemmings are in Damage Control mode. This is kinda funny.

Demons Souls isn't my kind of game. Yes, I own it. And no, I don't like it. But I can easily see why it won GOTY. Very innovative title. Lots of new things and very polished. I simply don't have the patience for the difficulty level.

But when it comes to Demons Souls, or any other GOTY for that matter, it seems like they just go through the staff and take the popular vote, ignoring genre or if it was a niche title, etc.

You didn't play it....the bold part says it all.

I felt lost this year as I played little to any games this year, (still waiting on half life ep. 3 though) but yeah demon souls felt like gamespot picked for the sake of differentiating itself from the rest of the pack, simply from listening to other people and reviews I suppose uncharted or dragon age should have won but oh well, in the end none of this matters, they're all amazing games.

You dont have to be good at RPG's to play the game really, the game starts a little bit easy so you wont have any problems with it but little by little it will get harder thats for sure
