FFXIII suffered from the fact that Square spent about 5 years drawing cool concept art and then tryign to make a game around it. Bungee are doing the exact same thing with Destiny-- their presentation at GDC was absolutely woeful, and it's clear that they still have no idea what kind of game to make around all the drawings that they made. Some people only have to hear them say "it's going to be epic" to get excited, but for anyone with a fair amount of critical thinking skills, that is not enough.
Activision is probably sweating quite a bit right now. Bungee may have been able to pull the wool over the driveby gaming media's eyes for a few months longer, but the fact of the matter is that after all this time the only thing they have to show is some frankly unremarkable concept art. I can pretty much guarantee that Destiny is not going to come out for a very, very long time, and when it does, everyone will end up complaining about it just like they did with Final Fantasy XIII.
It's not like I have any fanboy stake in whether or not the game is good-- it's a multiplatform title, so it's in my best interest for it to be good. The problem is that I have no reason to think it will be good, because Bungee hasn't even figured out what the game they are making is yet, other than that they are trying very hard to make everything look as epic as possible.
