[QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]Just my reaction when I read that. If constantly upgrading to max out makes you happy then I'm happy for you.KC_Hokie

What the hell is "Constantly upgrading" about this?

DX 10 cards are 5 years old, windows xp is over a decade old.

If you bought a half decent gaming PC today you're probably going to have to upgrade to max out BF3.

Explain to me how this is true.

'cause it's not.

wow PC is holding back PC now

CwlHeddwyn
this is nothing new. System Wars has always acted as if everyone has a high end gaming rig. not everyone has a high end rig and cant play the latest games with the best visuals.

So that means PC is holding PC back? Sounds to me like the people without decent gaming rigs are holding THEMSELVES back. This game is pushing forward. No two ways about it.

If you went and bought a $1000 gaming PC today it won't max out BF3 when it comes out. That's what I mean.

If BF3 can be maxed out on a single GTX 580, then you definitely can. especially by the time it comes out.

I think any high end car will run the game fine at 1080p or lower res at max.... You will need something like a HD 6970/6950 or GTX 570/580. Or a mid range card like the GTX 560Ti. You can also expect newer mid range cards by early 2012, so maxing out the game is not really going to be a problem, nothing like the original Crysis was at least.

Because they decided to push forward in tech but still let people with old hardware play?

What? do you want them to make a generic looking game or something just like Bad Company 2?

millerlight89

Its just not the kind of statement that fills me with any hope for decent optimization or scaling.

So because they are pushing tech this means the game will not be optimized or scale well. IDK what goes on in some of you people's heads, but I'm done with this thread.

Probably not no, but there's no need to be a baby about it. Valve surveyed what the most common GPU was when releasing HL2 and it still blew the competition away at max settings. DICE's message is far from being as understanding.

WHOOO! That's great. I get to buy a game that I have to wait a year to play at it's fullest potential.

Why is this a good thing again?

heretrix

Because we want old games to look good by comparison as years pass by? :P I don't know.

Quick edit: It's all about choice. You can choose to have your favourite graphics-related things in extreme quality and have other things at just high quality. That is what PC gamers promote, right? Choice? :P

PC games can be future-proofed unlike consoles as hardware changes all the time so if they start pushing hardware a little too far, they don't have to completely scrap the effort they put into their ridiculously high polygon count models or whatever it is that's causing framerate issues. Leave them in but create less hardware demanding versions as well.

I am guessing my GTX 570 will be just short of maxing it with 60 FPS. I would imagine I could max it with a constant 30, but I am not sure about 60. If not...well I guess I am buying another graphcis card :P.

Are you reading the link, or just making stuff up as you go along.

DICE NEVER MADE THIS STAEMENT.

It was an uninformed comment by the author of the news article.

All you need ot max this game is likely a GTX 560 Ti or 6950 vidoe card. And you CAN get one of those in a $1,000 PC build. Hell Nvidia posted a $600 build with the GTX 560 Ti.

So quit trolling.

Why is it wasted? The game will not stop existing 2 years later. It's future proof, like Crysis. 4 years later you can still start the game and it will not feel dated at all.

MrSelf-Destruct

Well, have fun waiting 2 years waiting to play it maxed out.

What's wrong with that? They can play it looking better than it does on consoles now and play it in two years looking even better than that. :P

People here are not smart enough to understand this concept.

As you can see the mentality and customs between PC Gamers and Console Gamers is shown here.

PC Gaming = Capitalism

Console Gaming = Socialism

On PC, you game at the settings you want to play at. If you want to spend 1,500 on PC, more power to you and you get more Eye Candy. If you want to spend $600 on a PC, you get what you spend and Still Get LOADS of Eye Candy.

On consoles, everyone games at the same settings. You don't get freedom and developers are limited to the hardware used in them.

I'm glad they are pushing thier game to a good bar. AWESOME!! =D

The console game will prob. run at PC low settings...haha. A $500 PC will prob. run this game on Med.

I think I can get it near maxed out if I get a Good SLI Profile. CAN'T WAIT!!!

Not everyone needs to max out the game...You can set settings for the game depending on your own hardware and what options you like more.

Even if it is true so what? Medium-high settings will still look awesome and theirs all the other benefits of playing the pc version. Medium-high will probably look and run better than Bad Company 2 since BF 3 isnt an unoptimized port.

My guess is that you'll need a top end dx11 card, probably a 580 or better for good fps on max with aa.

If you bought a mid range pc 6 months before Doom 3 came out you'd have trouble maxing that as well. You needed a 6800gt which was high end for good performance maxed

Not that i wont be getting BF3 (My 965 =+ 5770 will prolly have to run it on med-high no AA), i just think that MW3 will be a better game, since more people will be able to run it. This was the same story that happened with Crysis, it may have been a better "technically" but most couldn't run it, and it came out around the same time COD4 did, the difference was that COD playable by more people, and it was more fun to play than Crysis.

When I read stuff like that it reminds me why I stopped being primarily a PC gamer.

ferret-gamer

Why? You don't need to max it out to look better than consoles.

Hermits: oh but our games look so much better we can play them at these insane resolutions and frames per second. Hermits once somthing like this comes out: but you dont have to run it maxed. I've always loved that mentality you talk about how you can do all this stuff and how its a point of ownage but when it turns on you all of a sudden that really didn't matter in the end and you weren't really being serious right?

Most people who can run MW 3 will be able to run BF 3. We dont know what the min reqs are. Probably wont be much higher than Bad Company 2. Dont use Crysis as an anology since its mp is lame. BF 3 will be no more demanding for 2011 than BF 2 was for 2005.

It depends on the res as well, if you go at 1080p or above then I'll know it'll take more hardware.

I'd rather see the advancement of games than see the same old engine, and graphics reused over and over again and again on the consoles/PC.

youd rather see the useless advancement of graphics instead of the advancement of good gameplay, good storylines...etc?

64 players with destructive environments. What game has done this in the past? What console shooters are advancing gameplay?

The advancement of tech doesn't translate into better graphics only.

The animations look awesome and the destruction should be better as well

"Still, the PC version will look the best if you have the hardware and graphics card to run it. Sources suggest that maybe only 5% to 7% of the PC players of Battlefield 3 will have the hardware capable of pushing the PC version to the max when Battlefield arrives this fall."

Read inbetween the lines people..Dice didn't say this officially

It depends on the res as well, if you go at 1080p or above then I'll know it'll take more hardware.

I just don't understand why people are making abig deal about this including Console fanboys. You don't have to be able to run a game with all settings on Highest or at the highest res to enjoy it :?

This is just a lame attempt at ownage

I know High is good enough, but the % is mostly referring to really high res, I know we can max this out below 1080p. 1280x720 and 1440x900 are easily doable.

"DICE: Only 5%-7% of PC Players of Battlefield 3 will be able to run it MAXED out"

When I read stuff like that it reminds me why I stopped being primarily a PC gamer.

WilliamRLBaker

Is'nt that awesome though? You can set your resolutin to 720p ad abslutey destroy consles settings at 60 fps. You can also adjust the settings and absolutely destroy consles in comparison. Or MAX it and abslutely destroy consoles in comparison.

Worst case scenario for anyone actually gaming on their PC:

Slightly better gfx with much better fps and it just gets better there.. Keep clinging on to Fear 2, erhm I mean Crysis 2.

But again..Dice didn't officially state this and people are getting worked up over something that is probably nothing
