It sure was.
If you recall they would hold contests every month for the best fan art. The neat thing about it was that you drew your art on the actual mail letter/envelope that you sent in.
I remember trying a billion times (Okay, maybe more like 2.) to get my submission featured in one of the monthly issues but unfortunately I never did.
At the time seeing your name in a magazine was like being a rockstar, lol.

I had a subscription to Xbox Magazine for about a year. I was a Nintendo Power subscriber for the entire run and still have a subscription to its successor, Nintendo Force. I also currently have a Game Informer subscription that I have had for a very long time.
@videogameninja: I remember seeing it in stores and not getting it because it was outdated (issue 2 was already out). That's why i don't have it lol
I liked reading the letters the fans send to the Game Informer and Nintendo Power magazines. I thought about resubscribing to Game Informer the other day.

I'm not sure about this at all so please someone correct me if I'm way off base but I thought I heard some people saying that Game informer came free with some kind of membership at Gamestop or something.

I used to read Play and OPSM(Official Playstation Magazine) one thing I liked was getting the cheat/walkthrough booklets. I had one booklet which had Resident Evil 1,2 and 3 walkthroughs all in one.
read EGM ..still remember the funny stuff...like when people were trying to figure which characters says what in StreetFighter II ...E.Honda's grunt - some people were saying its "Deuce point"..lol...then there was an article written about DragonBall Z ...saying how all the characters just scream all the time (powering up)... :P
I really miss EGM. I bought al of the magazines at one time or another but always kept a subscription to EGM. Nintendo Power was a must have in the NES days. If you want to talk about being old does anybody remember the old Commodore 64 magazines that would have a few pages of code in them you would type out to see a simple graphic program and song?
What?! LOL!
Are you serious?
Now that is old school.
