Have you been satisfied with the output of games since the Switch's initial release?

Anything you still want to see out of the Switch?

What issues do you still have?

Yes they have most definitely delivered enough games for me this year. I currently have:

- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

- Super Mario Odyssey

- Xenoblade Chronicles 2

- Bayonetta 1 & 2

Games that I need to get that are currently out are:

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

- Pokken Tournament DX

- Fire Emblem Heroes

- Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Well they've released more games than I can afford to buy just now, that I'm interested in playing, so yeah I'd say they've delivered. :)

Honestly, it has its market and it's an amazing system. But it needs to do more to attract me. I'm waiting at least 2 years to seeh how the library is going to stack up, but thus far it's on the right track.

Yeah, it really did. It surpassed the PS4 for me this year, but my PC still reigned supreme.

Decent first year, but not enough to make me want one. I'm still waiting for them to embrace the Switch as a true hybrid and also have handheld franchises on the system like Golden Sun, Mario & Luigi, Advanced Wars, Mario VS DK, WarioWare etc. If they did that the Switch would be an incredible system.

I don't mind if they keep the handheld centric franchises 2D, just make them for the Switch.

Absolutely! There are more than enough games available for the system (and still more coming). Phenomenal first year for Nintendo Switch.

No. I get that it's a secondary console to the mighty PS4 , but it's got to have enough games. I'm not going to lose my mind over Zelda and Mario like Sheep do. I'm not that gullible. Give me some credit.

More games , a pricecut , a free Pro controller , and a free pack-in game would be steps in the right direction for a secondary console.

The first year was fine but then you realize that was probably going to be as good as it gets for Switch. Nintendo already blew their load with Zelda, Mario and Mario Kart in its first year. The only major releases they've really got left for Switch's lifespan are Metroid, Pokemon and Smash Bros.

I like how most of the people answering are ones who don't own one. That's inherently the group that will, by and large, not be satisfied with it...

Isnt that the way things work? Why should a person buy a product that is not appealing to them or not "satisfying"? I did not buy Wii-U because I still had that bad taste in my mouth from Wii, and the Wii-U was just such an obvious flop it seemed like a waste of money.

I'm keeping an eye out on Switch, mostly only because i have pent up demand from not having bought the Wii-U - not that anything about the Switch jumps out to me. It seems to have had a good year 1, but like the Wii-U looks like it could be having issues with game droughts. That being said, I'll probably buy one in year 2 if not just to play Mario Kart 8 and Zelda. My backlog is huge on all platforms , so tough to justify adding yet another system just for few games. I learned from owning 3DS and Vita that I am NOT a mobile or handheld gamer. I only enjoy games on the big screen.

I've enjoyed having the Switch, it's the only current gen console I actually use. Sure there could be more games, but the games that it does have really stand out from what's on the other platforms. Helps that I've always been a fan of Nintendo's franchises. The form factor is another benefit, I've been flying a lot lately and it beats the hell out of bringing a gameboy/3ds on the plane.

Getting impatient for the next Metroid game. Would also like to see another Pikmin, DKC, and Luigi's Mansion.

@2Chalupas: I think you missed my point. I'm not suggesting you buy something you aren't interested in. I'm saying people who don't have one are, of course, mostly going to say they aren't satisfied with it - because if they were, they'd probably have one :-p

No offense, but it seems like the more interesting conversation comes from those who DO have one. How many of them (us) have found that it delivered or not? What would we like to see that we'd thought we were getting from the product but didn't? Just doesn't seem like the question is asking "do you want a switch"

@lifelessablaze: Yeah, coming from the kid who said HZD was one of the worst games you’ve ever played, and said Kojima was a hack and MG survive is good....so does your opinion even matter?

You have a deplorable and contrarian taste in games. If anything, people would be better served purchasing the opposite of your suggestions.

I bought it so I guess so. I fully expect droughts because there always are with Nintendo since they aren't going to get all the third party stuff.

Yeah. I still have a backlog.

- SMO: Beat the base game and got to the Mushroom Kingdom, but I'm burned out.

- BOTW: Beat it

- Boyonetta 1: Just started playing. It's a bit too easy so I'm burned out already after just a few hours, but I'll complete it soon.

- Bayonetta 2: Waiting to beat the first before I start.

- Mario vs. Rabbids: Just started playing.

- Mario Kart: Just bought it for local multiplayer. I have no interest in beating another MK story mode (I've 100% completed a million MK games, so I'm burned out on the series).

That's two AAAAEs, one AAAAE port, and one AAAE. and one AAAE port I'd say that's pretty damn good value (probably the best first year in gaming history). I still find PC gaming a lot more fun, but there is no shortage of games on the Switch. It's my backup console, and it serves its purpose well.

Somehow I managed to buy 14 Switch games digitally so far. That is more games than I honestly have the time to play thoroughly these days. So yeah, the Switch definitely delivered for me. Even if I didn't buy any more Switch games for the entirety of 2018, I still have plenty of content to enjoy with the ones I already own.

Just to compare scores of first year releases (Gamespot/Metacritic):

Switch:

- SMO: 100/97

- BOTW: 100/97

- Bayonetta 2: 100/92

- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe Edition: 90/92

- Mario vs Rabbids: 90/85

- Xenoblade Chronicles 2: 70/83

PS4:

- Resogun: 80/84

- The Last of Us Remastered: 80/95

Xbox One:

- Forza Motorsport 5: 90/79

- Titanfall: 90/86

- Forza Horizon 2: 80/86

- Halo: The Master Chief Collection: 60/86

- Sunset Overdrive: 80/81

I was generous and gave X1 Titanfall as an exclusive since it was a Microsoft exclusive. As you can see, it's not even close. The Switch had a better first year than the PS4 and X1 COMBINED. No wonder the Switch is setting first year sales records around the world. This is the best console launch of all time.

I don't own one yet, but it looks promising. I'm looking to get:

- Fire Emblem Warriors

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

- Zelda: Breath of the Wild

- Mario Odyssey

- Splatoon 2

- Puyo Puyo Tetris

- and some other Indie games that I'm going to research. They have a lot which makes it painful, but I love having a collection and plethora of games to play.

Future games I'm excited for: 2D Mario, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario Tennis, Kirby, Bayonetta 3, Smash Bros, and Indies. So excited for the Switch that I'm going crazy. Too bad school is in the way and I don't have my own money. I'll probably get it during the summer when I have my job.

The first year has been shocking in terms of quality releases. 2018 though? Mario Tennis and Kirby both look good but much more will be needed for the year to be a success.

Bayonetta 3, Octopath, and Yoshi are also coming out this year. The Switch will likely get another SSB (possibly remake) and maybe Mario Kart this year too.

Bought one in September with Zelda and the Rabids game. Played for maybe 10 hours during the first two weeks and haven't used it since (well, I check their online store for sales once every two weeks). Its not that the games released are trash as they have had some heavy hitters. I just don't seem interested in using the console. I still think that will change with a new SSB and Pokémon though.

It's delivering in the less than a month of me owning it, having already owned three (or four) games for it: Bayonetta 2 (with Bayo 1), Skyrim, and Odyssey.

I would say yes if I didn't have other platforms where I'd play the multiplats (the ones that are semi-acceptable)

But I only have BotW, SMO, MK8, Shovel Knight, and Snipperclips. And I still have yet to sink much time into SMO (maybe 3 hours YTD).

it convinced me to take the plunge before the end of the first year and i had a wiiu so....not bad. i have only had it since fairly late last year though so droughts are not an issue,,,,yet :P.

games wise it hasnt been the absolute wonder it would be for those who never had a wiiu. i already have the likes of MK8 and BOTW on the wiiu and i wont be buying them again. but for those who never bought a wiiu but still like nintendos games it really cant be argued to be lacking. but still: xenoblade 2, mario odyssey, mario and rabbids xcom, fast racing RMX (i had the wiiu version but the switch version has nearly double the content for a reasonable price so a rare double dip)....some very nice games.

its AAA 3rd party support is patchy at best but then i didnt expect any different so im not disappointed on that front. i have always and will always buy those for the PC so it's a non issue.

things i want from the switch in 2018:

  1. More games of course. for me its looking a bit barren at the moment. i already have bayonetta 1 and 2 on the wiiu so, again, not getting the switch version. B3 and MP4 are on the way but i would be surprised if either are released this year. octopath traveller looks cool and i do hope to see a release this year. im sure there will be directs throughout the year to fill out the roster.
  2. A VC would be nice.
  3. the usual streaming suspects: youtube, netflix and co.
  4. a browser. ideally something thats actively maintained and not baked into the firmware. i wonder could nintendo do a deal with oprea again.
  5. tweaks to the UI. initially i was put off by the more basic visual style of the ui on the switch but its actually grown on me. its fast and lean and responsive. no nonsense. but with more games filling out the list its going to become more of a pain to use so some tweaks would be good.
  6. cloud storage (or at least a way to backup your switch: even to a local HDD connected to the dock).

Fast RMX, Breath of the Wild, Snipperclips, MK8 Deluxe, Minecraft, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids, Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, Doom... it’s been a fantastic first year, and there’s still 10-20 games that are already released that I’ve been wanting to buy.

The Switch 1st year was pretty good, no doubt about that but, as I predicted, Nintendo blew his load way too early and the drough period has already started outside of Bayonetta 2, wich is a port. There's really nothing big coming for the next few months, at least that I'm aware of

And, as I've already said, the other consoles have the luxury of having drough periods when it comes to exclusives cause they always have multiplats backing them up. Nintendo is pretty much all about their 1st party and when that doesnt keep up, their drough periods are more felt then the others

He's just hoping to find people who agree that it's bad because he wants it to do poorly going forward. If it doesn't start doing poorly soon though, he'll have to punish himself next year by buying one once it crosses the 35 million sold mark.

It has been collecting dust since Mario Odessey.
