It seems like PS3 is the one with the issues.Nova_Mongoose
How is that when all the 3rd party games announced are coming out on it :? (along with PC and 360)
Someone who wants to play Nintendo games MUST buy a Wii. The lack of multiplats ensures that Nintendo will get more customers as opposed to consumers having to decide between two hardcore consoles that share a good deal of multiplats. Most gamers will own both a Wii and either a 360 or PS3. While the two stronger consoles have to compete with each other Nintendo stands out and attracts a different reason to buy it. It's not a bad business move at all.Svarthek
It's not a bad business move at all that's right, but ......good for Nintendo....bad for gamers :(
As much as sheep hate to admit it they know the system is ultimately a fad with a short life span. Nintendo has done a good job of artificially sustaining demand but its clear the shine has dulled on its "wowwee gee goshum" glow.JiveT
A Fad? What are you talking about?
The Nintendo Wii has been out nearly 1 year and is still selling EXTREMLEY well and is still EXTREMLEY popular. The Wii will just continue to grow better and better as more gadgets like "Wii Zapper" and games like "Metroid Prime 3" keep coming out.
Its already guarnteed the Wii is not a Fad, because let me tell you Fads do not last 10 months. Also, isnt every console just a Fad in the end until a new one is released? Your argument is useless.

Wii is a fad. Whining about it not being a fad is just sour grapes. The fact they are already resorting to stupid gimmicks like the "Wii Zapper" only confirms it.

I care  MGS4>Wii's NPD sales (the game sheep look at most).
By going underpowered and soo radically different, has the Wii spelled doom for it's owners in the 3rd party supporty category yet again? We all know that the Gamecube suffered from massive droughts due to lack of third party support and lengthy periods of time between big Nintendo games. It's pretty much a known fact that a console can not support itself with only first party support (See Dreamcast and Gamecube), and with TONS of new announcements of games going to the PS3,360, and PC.....did Nintendo do it again?MikeE21286
Seeing as how EA dedicated a studio dedicated to the Wii, I'm pretty sure that other 3rd party devs will follow suit. As a gamer you can attempt to write off the Wii as a "fad" or a "gimmick", but the fact of the matter is that money talks. The Wii is blazing a trail into most homes around the world.
Now, if you were a developer trying to make money off video games; wouldn't you get your ass in gear and start making games for the Highest Selling console even if you have to put some work into a peripheral that you didn't really see coming? I know I would, just like EA is.

Or you could make a game for the same game for the higest userbase possible at the same time (Ps3 and 360)

Furbies lasted longer than 10 months. Fads aren't measured based on how LONG they last but WHY they sell which is usually because of popularity. Wii has gotten it's main sales from casuals because it's THE thing to have right now.

It's bad when instead of making good games like the PS3 and 360, it makes child games so your parents won't feel stupid when they try to play. Instead of bumping up the graphics, they make a wireless controller. WOW. Nintendo sucked in every comp(chances of me purchasing). 64, super, gamecube and the Wii never dominated the industry. Making a game cheaper and shipping less copies so it looks sold out every shipment doesn't constitute a major console.
Or you could make a game for the same game for the higest userbase possible at the same time (Ps3 and 360) MikeE21286
As much as gamers love stunning graphics, the fact of the matter is that MOST homes do NOT have HDTV sets, nor does the Average family have $400-$600 bones to play video games. I have an HDTV, 2 Gaming PCs, PS3, 360, and a Wii, but it's just myself and my wife. No kids, no car payments, and my rent is paid for by the Air Force. How many other people have that luxury? The Wii is affordable and still an absolute blast to play. Nobody can go wrong with purchasing one. The Wii is going to surpass the 360 and PS3 in sales dude. Who doesn't know that? And I don't know about you, but I get TIRED of the same lazy ass ports that happen between systems and I'm sure others are as well.
I think we all subconsciously can see PS3 will sell very well when it drops in price, but I can understand why we wouldn't want to say that right now (cause it's last in sales atm).
Btw, I think Wii isn't getting a plethora of 3rd party announcements not because of its hardware, but because Nintendo's software dominates the charts, so 3rd parties are cautious.

Want so explain HOW it is a Fad instead of just calling it a Fad with no reasons.....
I have never seen a Fad which lasts 10 months and is still selling like hotcakes. The Wii surviving 10 months and still selling just proves that its not a Fad.

furbies, beany babies, tamagotchi eggs, neo pets, hula hoops, cabage patch kids, tickle me elmo. Lots and Lots of fads last over a year. I'm not even calling the Wii a fad but most major fads last over a year.

And they are shipping more then the PS3... You should read the finical reports... Nintendo is shipping more Wii's to retailers then Sony is PS3's... Unless your suggesting they lie about the numbers... Which if you can prove is a federal offense, Good luck with that. XD

Ok here goes again.
I laugh that you believe it is blatantly obvious that the Wii will pass the PS3 and 360 in combined sales. It is actually extremely unlikely that this will happen ever....not impossible, but extremely unlikely.
ALso...yes, you prove my point even more by saying that HDTVs are not in tons of homes right now. Even in spite of that fact the PS3 and 360 still have a larger userbase than the Wii alone and their userbase will contine to grow alongside the exponential growth of HD-penetration
Finally......do you actually belive that they will be that expensive forever? 360 Premium is down to $350 (Core $299) and the PS3 is already down to $499 (with a rumour started by MS themsevles that there will be a 399 model by the holiday)

wow nice post.....you have a mind for business
Have you seen the damn sales charts? It is damn AMAZING how people on this board don't understand that they're quickly becoming the minority.
360 = 10 million in 2 years. That's pathetic, anyway you try to spin it.
PS3 = approx 5 million in slightly less than a year (don't kid yourself with that 6 million garbage...unless you're gullible).
Only hardcore gamers are buying this stuff. Wii just happened to hit the bigger market, and regardless of what you want to believe, it will pay off in the end, both for Nintendo and for 3rd parties.

then again, is wii getting any 3rd party 30/ps3 games? I dont see GTA4 on the wii now do we?
Anyone who says the Wii is a fad or that it will never have any good 3rd party support needs to take an economics 101 class. Virtually every important invention has been called a fad, planes, cars, cell phones, PC's, consoles, etc. all of them. Something doesn't become a fad until its popularity drops, and the Wii is still sold out where I live and I'm sure in other places around the world. The demand for a so-called "gamecube with a new controller" is sostaggering it could still be effectively sold out well into 2008.
This comes to the point about 3rd party support. I really hope you all already understand it but judging by the number of Wii-haters here I'll say it anyway; 3rd party publishers/developers go to the most popular console because of the larger userbase. The Wii is set to take the #1 sales spot by the end of 2007, and due to the apparent difficulties of developing for the PS3, the PS3+360 multiplat arguementisn't completely realistic. This means that theWii is going to be the most profitable system to develop games for, particularily because itshould be extremely easy to develop for. Also there is the little fact that Wii-haters tend to leave out, that both Ubisoft and EA have publicly appologized for their lack of commitment to the Wii. Now despite what some people here seem to think, you can't develop a game in 3 weeks, it takes usually around a minimum of a year depending on the type of game. So its going to take a little longer for EA and Ubi (and other 3rd parties) to develop for the Wii.
Well so far nobody has given any evidence as to why its a Fad. Which just proves they have no idea what they are talking about and are just jealous of the Wii, as most are.
Does this mean the 360 is a Fad? Because its not selling as much as it did when first released? So, is the 360 a Fad too? Or will you just come up with some lame excuse.
Wii has sold the most out of any consoles in the shortest amount of time. Wii has most 3rd party support and all game developers want to make games for the Wii. The Wii has an endless amount of new possibilities which will give it the longest life span out of any console. As long as Nintendo keep bringing out stuff like "WiiFit", the Wii will keep on selling for many many many years to come.
If you think the Wii is a Fad, then going by your logic the 360 must be a Fad also.
EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE CREATED IS JUST A FAD, UNTIL THE NEW ONE COMES OUT! Your argument is just silly and does not make sense.

PBSnipes
That could possibly be WIi's saving grace for 3rd party. The fact that it uses basically last-gen hardware making it less expensive to develop for. Whether this will be the case I do not know.
Just think about the following:
By the time the Wii actually is on store shelves (most likely January next year) you will be able to get
SSBB
Mario Galaxy
Metroid
What this does is to get the hardcore base into the game once Wii is for sale everywhere finally. I know a TON of hardcore gamers that really do want Metroid and mario and SSBB, that do not have a Wii. If all those games are out first while the Wii is still sold out its all over for the other guys sorry.
On top of all that is already out. 3rd party or no the Wii is going to keep going and selling to just about everyone for a really good long while. Just a fad? Yeah ok kiddo keep telling yourself that.
(mind you i do own and love my PS3 and 360, but the Wii is my fav cause its different and gee people its about time.

I didn't say combined sales anywhere in my Post. The Wii has already surpassed the Sales of the PS3 and will catch the 360 by years end or early 2008.
Of course the PS3 and 360 will become more affordable, but the Wii will still have the larger fan base. My wife and I play video games avidly which is why we have all of the consoles and 2 gaming PCs, my younger brother is a one console type of guy that likes good graphics, but look at how many people have NEVER played video games before and are purchasing the Wii. You talk about exponential growth of HD-Penetration yet fail to see it for Nintendos console.
In closing, is the Wii a heavy hitter in the gaming industry? No, it's not a powerhouse eXtreme console that avid gamers gawk over. However, sales never lie and it's definitely a successful console that is fun to play that will see "exponential growth" as you put it.

GTA is a bad game so it doesn't make a difference... but come on man haven't you seen the amazing third party games... it even gets most of the important multiplatform games.

Does your uncle or granny own a 360? No. IMO it's fad because it's THE hot thing now, not just in the category of games but in cheap and fun electronics. Many people, not just gamers, own the Wii and apparently it's casuals that atribute to Wii sales the most. The problem is, Wii doesn't compare game-wise to the 360/PS3. That'd be the main reason for all the Wii hate.
