Disgaea 4 thread- IGN AAE-joyatiq AAE.GS AE

Never played the series but only after looking at this hype thread am I interested!

I LOVE JRPGs, really feel this gen lacks them, but I know little of this series. Must RESEARCH!

How long is it? Characters/party system, exploration? Combat is turn based? Story driven much? Do I need to play previous games in the series or is it standalone?

Why I operate on impulse and names instead of reviews. Oh how I miss the days of walking into a store and picking out whatever game had the most appealing boxart.

Nowadays, even if you try, you'll still end up watching videos for any game before buying. Because it's available to you :(

LOL i used to do that and still do at times haha, i never base my purchases on scores or numbers, never! i buy whatever i like and if i can afford it. ah the PS2 days i used to buy the games based on their box arts too and the box art with the most attractive girl on it is a buy! :lol:.. good times

If I had done that, I'd have picked up Shadow Hearts 2 back in the PS2 era :P Dat boxart :oops:

But one also has to beware the anime art :o it tends to attract the eye and mislead us!

Thats why i ended up buying Shadow hearts :P. man i had over 200 games on the PS2 with 90% of them all being JRPGs

Im very serious man, i had so many JRPGs on it and i played nothing back then but the JRPGs! only this gen and thanks to the PS3 is when i started doing FPS, action, hack and slash and so on, i used to hate games like god of war or uncharted, now im a huge fan :P. you gave me an idea for my next blog tho, i will sometime when im free do and take pictures of all my PS2 games..at least what remained of them since i gave some to my friends, my cousins, etc

Disgaea 4 is the best for new comers and no need to play the past games, start with Disgaea 4 and you'll love it! Disgaea games are very long, too long soemtimes and are very hilarious, combat is stradegy, you can view some of its gameplay on youtube. party system, you can play as any character and can even go online and invade other players

So you really think you have 180 JRPGs for the PS2? There aren't even that many on the PS2 if you don't import.

Typical score from GS, don't care because I'm loving it. Currently in Chapter 5 now; I think I'm way too overpowered for this point in the game with my Valvatorez at Level 56 :lol:

I was expecting AA. On MC it's AA but then comes bully GS and wham! 7.5 in the nuts. :cry:

GS score seems a little low to me.

... of course gamespot doesn't care about its small ps3 gaming community its not like its 10X as big as IGN.xbox will rule... only at this biased site (infamous)and this game lowest score is ... gamespot surprising.

Playing it now. The story is incredibly dull. It's just awful so far.

The story presentation is about as exciting as a textbook.

The game does use HD sprites, which look good, but animations look bad, even for a Disgaea game.

I hope this changes soon, because this could be the biggest disappointment of the year.

As for the Disgaea 4 review.... GS is full of crap latley. All the bad review scores... unless your a kinect game or a muscle bound crap game that gives GS thousands of $$ advertising... have you seen all those banner ads and videos adverts before videos? total bs.... and a 9.5 here... DS4 got robbed... so did Infamous 2, Ratchet and Clank, R3, etc....Pisses me off because people will ignore D4 because of GS. ... How many sys wars commentors say they ignore "Flopps" a lot of them...and it sucks as I want good devs to get money for making hardcore games...especially jrpgs.. I could go on for paragraphs on my view on this but i will stop less I say something I didn't mean to say.Midnightshade29

7.0 = Horrible

7.5 = Bad

8.0 = Blah

8.5 = Passable

9.0 = Good

9.5 = Great and worth your money

10.0 = Immaculate

7-10 are great games.

There seems to be a double standard in GS reviews. Shooters: more of the same but I don't care because I like it, it's awesome, score it high anyway. RPGs: more of the same, the series is stale, penalize it.

I expected the game to feel silly, outrageous, and charming like previous titles.

The words I would use to describe what I've seen so far is ... "dull and slow."

I didn't play 3, but this one is a big disappointment for me. Most of the motivation for Grinding in Disgaea comes from just how charming the characters are for me. Who came up with Fenrich? Why? The story doesn't seem like it's trying. Graphically, I even prefer the 1st two to this one as well. I just have to hope that it gets better.
