dante is like derek zoolander with a huge sword. he says his horrible one-liners with the conviction that he is truly clever but he is the victim of some seriously weak writing. beside this is an action game not comdey central. we are talking about who is more badass. ryu has this intensity about him. actually a lot like ryu from street fighter.

But I prefer the stylish action that Dante/Nero deliver over Ryu.

I find it funny that people are STILL bringing up young Dante from DMC3 who was 19 years old. He was a teenager, he had kickass abilities, of course he is going to be cheesy and cocky! Thats his style. In DMC4 he is a lot more mature. Ryu hasnt done a fraction of cool Dante has done throughout the series. And that is a non-fanboy comment. It is total fact. Anyone with a brain would say Dante is a ton more cooler than Ryu Hayabusa. I dont even know why they call him a Ninja! Tenchu is a REAL Ninja game. Ninjas are ASSASSINS, Ryu has a bad habit of wearing black in broad day light running around like a fool when he should be concealed. Agent 47 (Hitman series) is more Ninja than Ryu could ever hope to be.

I should also mention the fact that what your bringing up with Ryu cutting off limbs from thousands of fiends is hardly impressive. I admit, DMC4 was a disappointment to me too, it was WAY easier than DMC3. However, I have seen everything Dante could do and have been in "awe". I have also seen what Ryu could do and have "yawned", the guy is nothing special.

DMC4 is my least favorite in the series and isnt anywhere near NG2 in my opinion. Id give DMC4 7.5 and NG2 a 9.5

IMO DMC4 only whens in story,and both stories suck. DMC4 was a let down for me...it SUCKED compared to DMC3. They took away the different styles and made it a whole lot easier. NGB was better than DMC3 even though not by much,but NG2 is a good bit better than NGB imo...so NG wins.

Seriously, I get tired of the whole Dante's personality excuse too. I could use the same excuse for the uninteresting character called Ryu.

I dont find the camera bad in NG2...I guess I am just use to how it works..

so far I have not found it hindering how I approach a situation

Yeah, really, all they have is inflated scores. On a side note, its funny when I see someone boast about how good they are at NG but slam DMC because the combat is not as good, when in fact they cant play it. NG has combos already set for you, DMC doesnt hold your hand (Well 1 and 3 didn't), you have to pull off your own combos. Yeah, sure there are moves that are pulled off by consecutive button presses, but you dont have the option of chaining those together on NG. Especially not as much as DMC.

Well Metacritics said DMC(94) and GOW(94)>NG(91)

Umm..actually NGB, DMC and GoW all stand at 94(universal acclaim) at Metacritic as of now.

Anyway, I haven't played previous NG games, but I have played both GoWs and DMC 1,3 and 4. GoW delivers the best OVERALL package, without doubt. DMC was great, DMC 3 was good and DMC 4 is good, but NG2 is far far superior to all DMC games IMHO. For the record, I played through and thoroughly enjoyed DMC4, but to compare it's GAMEPLAY with NG2 is pure blasphemy, to me atleast. What makes (or breaks) an action/fighting game is the mechanics, combat system and challenge. Quite honestly, DMC 4 doesn't even hold a candle to NG2 in those aspects.

I like both but if I were to choose one I'd base it on these merits....

1)For last generation gaming and this generations gaming Ninja Gaiden has not evolved....AT ALL. The gameplay is still fantastic but Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden: Black and Ninja Gaiden: Sigma were all the same damn games with slight upgrades each iteration. Finally we get a true sequel in Ninja Gaiden 2 and guess what...... the only things added worth mentioning are the ability to switch weapons with the d pad, and the nifty replay feature (which is awesome by the way). Other stuff added like new weapons and more enemy variety shouldn't even be mentioned because every action game sequel SHOULD have those. Now even though I'm sounding negative I love NG2 it's just not the big upgrade from Sigma that I had hoped and made me feel like I already had already purchased the game last year.

2) Devil May Cry is a solid action game period...the first one was basically the foundation of most current action games and the storylines while always intriguing were ridiculously stupid. The first DMC was pretty awesome I really enjoyed it and thought the battle system and controls were pretty tight, Dante was introduced as an awesome character. DMC 2 sucked major ass, I did not like it at all, it took everything great about the original and threw it out the window while laughing. The A.I. was broken, the visuals were drab and the combat sucked. DMC3 was just great....period, I thought the battle system was great, the different styles of combat were cool and surfing on enemies never got old, Dante was a wuss though and I wished Virgil got his own campaign. DMC4 has fantastic visuals with DMC3's battle system with some simplified mechanics making it more accessible which could be love it or hate it.

My choice in this case right now would have to go to.....Ninja Gaiden.....by the tip of a blade lol. (surprised?) just for the fact that its always challenging and the battle system is so deep that you get lost in the type of stuff your always able to pull off. It doesnt hurt that Ryu is a bad ass ninja.

This was actually very, very, very close because their are major negatives I wish were rectified for NG2

1) The framerate drops are unacceptable

2) The A.I. is incredibely cheap sometimes.... seriously, who playtested it? The previous ones were challenging but this one is CHEAP.

couldnt agree more, DMC3 is awesome and my favorite one, I like the ability to change styles on the fly as dante in 4 as it allows for more moves and awesome combos, as well as the switching of more then 2 weapons and guns...but the story mode is a drag as half is nero and playing as him is fun but not nearly as fun as dante.

Also the bloody palace was better in 3 then 4.

and this is why im glad you arent a reviewer....if you cant take the difficulty....then go whine and play your dmc4.....i love dmc4, and i laugh at anyone who dares to compare ng to dmc....mainly because both games are very different in terms of gamplay....if you wanna compare dmc......i suggest u go with god of war....ninja gaiden is a total different game....the fact that the enemies stand there, like dummies, the fact that you cant block, or even move as fast as ryu, the fact that the enemies will not attack you when ur back is turn against them......shows how gimped dmc is compared to ng.......and dmc4 looks more realistic? what a jokegohan2710

Going from crappy PS2 graphics to PS3. 360 graphics is a bigger leap than going from top of the line xbox graphics to 360 graphics. Especially if the art style was pretty much taken as far as it could on the original xbox.

While it might not look as impressive at first glance, NG2's graphics are at least twice as detailed as Sigma. The enemy's are a lot more detailed. and so are the environments. Even with all the extra details It has double the enemy's on screen. And is twice as fast.

If you add all of it up NG2 is more impressive than DMC4 graphically. In my opinion anyway..

I honestly fell sad for the current crop of gamers(mostly ps generation gamers). The most important aspect of ANY game is the gameplay. Extras like story and graphics are only secondary. If there is any part one can praise ng then its definately its excellent gameplay. DMC4 has terrible enemy AI and the gameplay is SERIOUSLY lacking. DMC4 is all flash but no substance.mubarakibnumar

I agree. It seems that lately every game that even has a hint of a story gets extra points just for that. Even if the game-play is broken they expect me to keep playing because the story is good compared to other video game story's. I don't see how you can deduct points for a bad story. But not for broken game-play. A good story does not make up for flat out broken hit detection. *cough* GTA4 *cough*

Both games have a different play-style. Wheter its combat is better or not is subjective.

Could not have agreed anymore. People just want every game to look like Gears or Uncharted. For the amount of fast paced action on-screen, the sheer number of enemy AI present sometimes and still having those good looking backdrops is an achievement in itself. And I sincerely hope all the people who say DMC4 was better graphically are talking about the cutscenes(those were mindblowing) coz in-game visuals, I really don't see a difference between them, in fact I like NG2 more varied environments a tad better.

never played DMC4 .. i wasn't impressed at all by the demo

the gameplay seems a bit too clunky for me

i find ninja gaiden a lot more fun, even if just comparing the demos of the two
