For those of you asking me if there are any noticeable differences or trade-offs between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of DMC4, you'll be glad to know (or not) that there aren't any. OK, if you were to turn on both versions and just let the demo trailer run automatically, you'll find that the PS3 version is sharper, thanks undoubtedly to using the Blu-ray format over the DVD format, even if both games run in 720p, but once you start the actual game they're identical.

I'll leave the in-depth visual analysis for some upcoming coverage we have planned for DMC4, but a couple other points: Xbox 360 controls feel really good, especially since every 360 controller has the force-feedback. If you've imported a Dual Schock 3 from Japan you're all set, but if you're one of the many without a DS3 you'll be missing out a little. The PS3 has not-that-noticeably shorter load times between screens, but that's like 2 seconds versus the Xbox 360's 3 second loads. Seriously, count out 3 seconds. The PS3, however, forces you to install the game on your harddrive, a not insignificant process. I don't know why you're made to do this.

Indeed. I can understand if it cut out all load times, but it doesn't. Why wait for 30-40 minutes to install a game and eat up 5GB's when the load times on both versions are basically the same? Lame.

I don't get it. Uncharted has no loading times at all (except when you boot it up) and it doesn't take up much HD space...and the environments are detailed and what not...

How come DMC needs 5GB of space but still has loading times? Noob question I know, but an answer from someone tech smart would be appreciated.

I don't actually care about DMC, I'm just hoping it doesn't happen to something like GTA since R* promised no loading times (before the delay/complications).

exactly, I believe this is due to the slower read speed of the BR drive, but sill you would think with 5gb installation there shouldnt be any load times but then I remembered oblivion, however oblivion was a massive game this one doesnt seem as epic in scale, anyway good post TC, by tthe way did you get the regular version or the SE?

I blame multiplatforming the game, I swear there is always some screw up in some way when you multiplat a game, I'd rather see them on one platform so they don't make these oddities.

i don't know why but this isn't not adding up. you download this on your hard drive and it still almost equal to the 360. not adding up to me. i wait for more reviews on this.

Why does it force you to install 5GB onto the PS3 if it's only 1 second difference? Wtf is the point of a 25 GB disc if you have to install 5GB onto the harddrive? Wtf sony.

Screw it I was going to get DMC4 for the PS3 but now I'm just going to buy the 360 version along with Lost Odyssey.

Thanks, bro. :) I went with the regular edition. I couldn't justify spending $79.99 on the SE.

On IGN's latest podcast, they state the PS3 version is a seamless experience, load times are almost non-existant. And when there are, they are a half-second to a second.

They stated the 360 version load times are about 5-10 seconds.

Who knows.

So they both have short load times, yet the 360 version doesn't have a required 5GB HDD install....

Are you blaming it on the 360 because it's "inferior"? I don't see how any of this has to do with it being multiplatform...

Yes, but PS3 wasn't out when DR released and didn't they have a reason for putting MH on the Wii?

Definitely picking it up on the 360 then. ;)

I commend Sony for making the 40gb PS3 version. I love it and picked it up the first day it was released ($600 for any console is too much). That being said, 5gb is just too much of an install. I have 7 games and i'm already down to 22gb left (which is alot but 5gb of space shouldn't just vanish like DMC is going to make it do). 360 version for me i guess then.

not sure if you are mistaken from what i wrote. sigma had the option to instal 5gb to reduce loading, but from what i hear dmc4 will be required to install if you want to play it on your ps3.

I cant imagine the load times would have been worse than 10 seconds without an install...and after playing Motorstorm and those horrid load times, 10 seconds wouldnt seem that bad. I have never been into the DMC series, but I feel bad for PS3 owners.

Those Motorstorm load times killed the game for me. Come on, 10 seconds to load each individual vehicle?! Grrr!

I don't really care about load times as long as they aren't 30 seconds or something like that. Morrowind on XBOX had some crazy loading times at odd points.

I don't mind installing, I just want to know WTF it is, since it takes up 5GB and doesn't help loading.

I'm probably just going to get the 360 version just for the rumble and achievements. Plus a little external musicwithin the game wouldn't hurt either.

For consoles the only games that should require an install are mmo's and expansions. It just seems really wierd that DMC requires a 5g install on the ps3.

their was an installation for oblivion on ps3? wow i never knew that, i didnt reconize anything like it, it went so quick! lol.

so why wud DMC4 take like 30 minutes or whatever? strange

and also when i did install oblivion (im still surprised!) how come it doesnt say that much was taken, like on the whole hard drive it still says 30 gigs...i dont have many games but ive got heaps of movies and dmc anime eps saved to my ps3, so thats why ive got 30 gigs left.

unless oblivion was optional and i didnt install it :S, if so how do you do that?

Overall ill end up getting the 360 version. Its total lulz that they expect you to install 5gb onto your hard drive before you can even play the game. If it wasn't for this though the load times for the ps3 version would be dramatically increased.

No graphics comparison has been out as far as i can see so ill wait for that. Though still making you install 5gb on your hard drive? If any sony fanboy can look them self in the mirror and say that's perfectly fine then they are totally nuts! PS3 is not a PC sony!! Stop trying to make it out like one.

GT5p, install size = 4.9GB, install time = less than 8 minutes.

NG: S, install size = 3.4GB, install time= less than 5 minutes.

HS, install size = 2GB, install time less than 5 minutes.

HS, save file = 3GB.

I can go on and on, but it is enough to prove my point.

Most PS3 games has installtion files, it is not something new for us, so 5GB is something regular.
