Do lemmings justify backwards compatibility because they have no exclusives?

Well...technically they do have games...lol. Whether they're good or not is another thing; to each their own.

By 5th years of the console, BC should not even be something people talks about.. No one talks about BC with PS2 and BC with 360 by 3 or 5th years in their cycle because there were too many new games to talk about. At this point Xbox should all be about current or future games if MS didn't fuxk it up!

@undefined: Everybody should Justify backwards compatability. Its the one great thing Microsoft has done this generation. Do you want to start over everytime you buy a console? Do you wan't 4 obsolete boxes under your tv just so you can play all your old games? Backwards compatability matters and thanks to MS, Sony will probably have it in the PS5.

Yes Sony is killing it as far as great exclusive games this gen but i hope i don't need to keep my PS4 around to play them when the PS5 comes out.

Sony had it in PS2 and PS3 so thats not something Xbox started. Also I'm for one that don't give a shit about BC at all as I don't have enough time to play all the new games so forget about old games!

@ni6htmare01: No Xbox didn't start it but they are the only one doing it. To me its ridiculous to say you don't care about it. Its about building an eco system. I love the PS brand its by far the best overall in terms of quality games but BC should become the norm again. Not sure how anyone can defend not having it.. especially in the PS5 which will be X86 as well and easy to do.

I still I have all my old systems so I don't really need BC. Also I had never use BC on PS2, PS3 and 360, now if I haven't use BC in 2 gens, never played the old games and still have my old systems in my closet.. Than why do care about BC?? You care about it?? Good for you, I don't and if PS5 do have it, I will treat it like an composite audio port, is there and don't care.

Nothing wrong at all if you like it, never said is a bad feature, is just something that I don't use at all. Also my point with the Xbox fans is gen is in its 5th years, shouldn't new games become the main focus rather than BC.. They should voice out and let MS know.

@ni6htmare01: Thats my point.. BC should be in your console and not take much focus. All PS fans should demand it, its not hard to have especially next gen. Although i fully agree BC alone doesn't make a console worth owning. The Xbox has had a pitiful lineup of exclusives but i don't think BC has had anything to do with that. They simply don't have the studios or the talent right now. A system should have BC and great exclusives.

Is 3 gens for and is almost 20 years already for Xbox. If they still don't have the talent with their studio in than their are something really wrong with how MS running their game division!

It is a great feature and something Sony should have done this gen too. Sure, PS3 BC would be problematic but PS1 and PS2 digital games bought on PS3 should have carried over. Probably only reason they didn't was to compel people to use PS Now streaming. Also, sure it wasn't a featute that could be done at flip of a switch, they'd probably need developers to sign off with each title carried over, but it was very doable. It is a shame too since Sony created a great catalog of PS1 and PS2 classics on PS3.

@ni6htmare01: I honestly think they relied far to much on one IP(Halo) and FPS fatigue started at the beginning of this gen and its bit them in the ass. They have three relevan't IP's now and seem to have a hard time forming studios.

@needhealing: No I don't have many movies on my shelf. Movies aren't my hobby, gaming is. And I download games digitally also, however I do love the feel of a physical game in my hand. Like I'm sure avid movie and music collectors do.

Also I think they should give them creative freedom to make new IP rather than just Halo, Gears and Forza!!

BC is nothing more than an added bonus. Chances are, if you still have the games, you kept your old console, so while its a convenience to be able to play them on your new console, it's not a deal breaker even if they are enhanced in some way.

I buy a new console for new games.

I love having BC, and I play 360/OG Xbox games all the time (I'm currently playing San Andreas!!). For me personally, if I had to choose between having BC of the calibre of what XB1 has (ie. 360 & OG Xbox, with some games even being X enhanced to 4k), or an "exclusive" or 2, I'd pick the BC option. That doesn't mean I don't want more 1st party content from MS, but to me, BC is worth a couple of exclusives. Being able to play my old favs (and trying some games I missed last gen) is that important for me personally.

Whether it is an excuse or not doesn't change the fact that BC is a plus the Xbox has over Sony, you may or may not care about BC or in some cases pretend that you don't care about BC, but fact remains Xbox has it and PS4 doesn't.

For me personally BC would have made the PS4 a lot more attractive, especially the Xbox ONE's BC which uses its hardware to enhance the games as opposed to merely playing the exact same game at the exact same graphical settings, that way I would have kept my PS3 games and would have enjoyed past games at higher fps and higher resolution.

Yes child, I'd prefer to have access to hundreds of games from past gens, over 1 game that might be good or I'd finish in a bunch of hours. Yeah I'm so dumb.

I certainly haven't got anything against the feature, it's what the PC is all about after all. However, MS and the fans over sell the feature like it's the best thing in the world and they try to use it against other systems.

When a console comes out, the manufacturer uses BC for the first year or so, to keep people good while the new library builds up. But since MS dumped exclusives, none of the fans or MS ever stfu about it. I'm happy for them, good, go, play the games, but NO ONE cares.
