Speaking about percentages of RROD and DRE, if you get RROD you are %100 covered for 3 years and MS will fix it for you free of charge, while if you were in that %2 and get DRE most likely you need to pay Sony to get it fix, fix it yourself or even buy a new PS2. Only like %10 chance Sony would do something about it and help you and fix it for free.

that did not happen to me sony fixed mine for free. last year before the warranty ms charged 100-140 i believe to get rrod fixed talk about screwing their customers

Really? That makes one of you. For the most part, people had to buy a new PS2 or pay for repairs abd Sony continued to brag about sales numbers even though they knew why.
Does anyone think that cows are going to come clean and admit they had problems with the PS2???

[QUOTE="Bubblehash"][QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]I've seen this before - when failing to back up your argument, you turn to this method. Spouting non sense like a child - "twist, spin". There is no factual evidence to prove that - it's hearsay, which cannot be used as evidence for a foundation. People turn to websites which spout crap like 33%, 30%, 16% - when in fact, they're not factual numbers; estimates, taken from surveys and batches of 1000 Xboxs which is never a credible number. People are over exaggerating the issue at hand.[QUOTE="Bubblehash"]Something is wrong with my monitor. All your post are starting to say twist twist twist, spin spin spin. Bottomline is most agree the RRoD is a bigger issue and also this thread is about the effects of RRoD on the sales of their next console, not the effects of the PS2 to the sales of the next MS console.mistervengeance
We've seen this before, this isn't the first time this has happened; as evident with the PS2. There was a lot more affected by the issue and were scam out of 150USD by Sony so they could have their PS2 fixed, by a problem Sony knowingly shipped with.
Spin spin spin. Please continue.bubble is right, you just completely dodged the question by talking about the ps2. we're not talking about the ps2. we're talking about how the RROD is still a significant problem, though probably not near 33% as it was spun to be.

this is why last year almost every console that joystiq had failed.
The reason why the PS2 was originally brought up was in repsonse to the OP. Did problems with the PS2 affect PS3 sales? I don't think so and I don't think it will have a major effect on future sales of a microsoft console (assuming that one is more reliable than the bloody 360). The conversation was then derailed by people squabbling over the numbers of PS2 and 360 failures.[QUOTE="AaronHullLfc"]I cant believe your even thinking the next Xbox will have RRoD.whocares4peaceYeah, if MS will do anything next generation, it'll be to make a realible console so they can avoid a billion $ loss.
And Sony will do the same when it comes to lack of games + high price.
So next-gen will be interesting to say the least.
[QUOTE="PS_Family"]RROD or not Xbox is now associated with faulty hardware, so yes it's going to affect sales.WilliamRLBaker
rrod or not? um that makes absolutely no sense if there was no rrod then that would mean the 360 didn't fail and therefor wouldn't be associated with faulty hardware...
I'm pretty sure he meant whether or not the next xbox will have it's own RROD or not. Meaning even if the next xbox has 1% failure rate people will still associate xbox with faulty hardware because of 360's RROD, casuals dont pay attention to statistics on the internet they just remember what happened to them, and they'll remember RROD when the next xbox comes out.
I don't think so. I don't think the PS3 was affected by the PS2's DRE problems.
But the thing is, Around SW and in the more dedicated community of gamers, the RRoD is common knowledge but how many casual gamers even know what the RRoD is, much less how big of a problem it is/was? Unless we know that, we cannot gauge how big of an issue it'll be.

Sure the price tag was a huge one to swallow, but that wasn't the only reason I held off from getting one. After the problems I had with the PS2, i wanted to make sure the bugs got worked out this time. Do you honestly think I am the only one that felt this way and waited? I sure hope not. I think the same thing is going to happen when MS releases their next console. I see a lot of people waiting it out to see if it is going to break down like the 360 did. If you think differently, then you must think people as a whole are pretty stupid and don't demand much for their money.EDIT: If the PS2 was brought up because of the TC, then it should have been the TC that was quoted, not me. ;)

casuals know and to them its a big problem. you can thank the news internet and word of mouth. i've never meet a casual who did not know.
[QUOTE="charomid"]honestly, the rrod problem is not affecting buyers of the console NOW
nethernova
Uh, of course it is. It's the only reason for me not to buy one. Probably the new Jasper chipset will change my mind.
o ya ur right, i forgot u represent the majority of the millions of xbox 360 owners. wow!
