[QUOTE="KingTuttle"][QUOTE="vashkey"] You pay for whats in the box.Hanass

And by his beliefs it should always be continuously putting out content by the labors of others for free.

$60 for a game is already WAAAAAAY overpriced. On top of that you don't mind paying for stuff that's supposed to be already included with the game? Rich people these days...

When did you start gaming?

I dont understand why people dont like DLC.

Last gen you bought a game and played it. You piut up with the little bugs. And after a while the same old mpas got boring and so you stopped playing altogether.

But now your still getting the same amount of content as you would last gen. But we dont put up for bugs, we gt them fixed. And if you get bored of maps online, but still love the gameplay, you can extend the life of the game for as little as £5.

The KZ2 DLC, COD4 DLC, warhawk DLC, all extended the life of those games so much.

Yeah sometimes we hear about DLC being made before the game launches but at the end of the day we cant ask that each game comes with 30 maps and no omore are made. We get a good 6 or so to start and if we want more we have the option.

I don't know, 2005? I'm well aware that games were actually more expensive last gen if take into account the inflation; that still doesn't make this gen less overpriced.

So you don't pay for your games?

Hanass

You pay for whats in the box.

Ok then. If we go by your logic, any patch must cost money.

It technically could. But they really shouldnt since it's fixing something that was broken often times.

Some DLC might be worth it but €6 for 2 maps isn't(KZ2).Infact most map packs aren't worth it.

If you wait though you can get good deals with multiple packs. You can get all 6 DLC maps for KZ2 pretty cheap. Im getting it soon. It all depends really. Sometimes it is overpriced (COD4 looking at you) but if you really like a game and dont want to get bored of it DLC is great. I like what warhawk did. They add new maps and a vehicle with each pack at a reasonable price. But then they also give us free DLC to keep it fresh. Well they did, before the rumors came up about a new warhawk game.

Don't buy it. You want me to buy extra content then put it into an expansion pack or give it out for free.

Check out how much SNES games cost. Take a peak at Phantasy Star 4 for Genesis. Check out Pac Man on the Atari 2600. Then come back.

Well, I'd say DLC is generally a little over priced myself. But I don't think it should be free either(unless of course the developer wants it to be free).

Only thing I have ever bought is the MGS4 LBP pack. Only reason I bought it was because it came with designed levels and the gun. Most of the stuff is a ripoff and should not cost anything.

not yet, i bought downloadable games but i don't count them as dlc. if you do then yes i got braid, wipeout hd and alot of games on steam. i haven't seen anything yet that has made me want any dlc, such as maps etc. i was tempted with lost and the damned, but i had other games to play so i didn't bother.

Most of those were in the 30-50 range at retail in 90's with the exception of Phanasty Star which was like a 100 bucks or close to it. I remember a game that came out for the Genisis called Strider in 1990 that cost like 80 bucks.

I wouldn't mind paying DLC for something like Lost & Damned, but stuff like Horse Armor, map packs, or anything that should have been included in the retail package I don't bother with.

Non-free DLC is very very bad when released alongside a game, or immediately after it.

Whenever this topic is discussed I see two things that are repeated every time that I find silly:

"All DLC should be free" or "The DLC should be included in the game"

DLC is extra content. It is made by people who do it to get paid, it's a JOB....Thinking that you should get free content just because you bought a game is absolutely ridiculous. It's EXTRA, meaning no, it shouldn't be in the game because it's EXTRA CONTENT. Now, it is true that there are some publishers that try to sucker you into buying crappy DLC, but just like everything else in life you should be smart enough to know the difference between a good deal and crap. It's amazing how out of touch with reality some people are about this stuff.

Most DLC is like 1/2 an expansion pack, well ok 1/4 of an expansion pack in most cases and about 1/16 in other (im looking at you Halo 3 maps). Most of this stuff was free in the past and it has only become paid for content due to the closed nature of services like XBL. Most of this BS is free on the PC (one way or another....)

I fail to see why this is helping your argument. There's currently not enough demand for video games, so they HAVE to lower their prices in order to stay in business. Just ask Sony and their PS3.

If DLC never made money....they wouldn't make it. But guess what? Shhhh it's a secret.....it does make money. Even in the "Global Climate".

[QUOTE="KingTuttle"][QUOTE="BoloTheGreat"] Most DLC is like 1/2 an expansion pack, well ok 1/4 of an expansion pack in most cases and about 1/16 in other (im looking at you Halo 3 maps). Most of this stuff was free in the past and it has only become paid for content due to the closed nature of services like XBL. Most of this BS is free on the PC (one way or another....)BoloTheGreat
3 maps isn't worth any money? The dev's should make them for you for free right? Just because they like you?

L4D manages it.

A new campaign is coming to Left 4 Dead next month. It's not going to be free on the 360. The survival pack was free because they got funded by some movie.

As a business Valve actually has another revenue steam ahem stream that produces revenue.

[QUOTE="vashkey"][QUOTE="KingTuttle"] Ever play Battlefield 2?BoloTheGreat
Or buy an expansion pack?

Well that's it, the consoles are all closed platforms with licensing fees, of course you are going to be charged for it. The PC is an open platform where anyone can create software and sell it. there is no barrier to entry or licensing fees to speak of since there is no one company creating all PCs. People tend to forget this little fact quite often here. It's exactly why XBL works as a subscription service on the 360 and failed on the PC where it has tons of competition. (It also failed because it was inferior to it's console counterpart)

never bought any DLC. I have come close to buying the prince of persia and the Mass Effect DLC, but I think the first DLC I'll buy is if they come out with something for demon's souls. I voted no.

It's a trend to scam extra money that should have been on the disc to begin with.

In other words, you would rather waste your money on a yearly sequel for full price of a game that you will likely only play online instead of 30 dollars for 9 or more new maps?

I haven't bought any DLC yet. I just don't want to put in the money to purchase it. Maybe if it offers enough and I want to continue with the game I'll get it someday, but so far I haven't gotten any yet.

Considered the Fable 2 and Mass Effect content, also The Shivering Isles pack which is something I really want. But its still $30 on PSN and I'm not dishing that much for it.

I buy the DLC that is extra levels or missions or whatever, not DLC that is extra cars, guns, outfits or other crap. I've downloaded the DLC for fallout 3, army of two, mirror's edge, fable 2, gta 4, mass effect, lost odyssey, and the force unleashed and enjoyed them all.
