[QUOTE="BoloTheGreat"]

[QUOTE="KingTuttle"] 3 maps isn't worth any money? The dev's should make them for you for free right? Just because they like you?KingTuttle

VALVE manages it alsmot weekly.

As a business Valve actually has another revenue steam ahem stream that produces revenue.

So because they have steam they offer DLC for free ... I don't see the connection.

They offer it for free because:
-it keeps gamers playing their game
-it attracts more gamers to buy their game

Valve has seen the win-win (developer-gamer) situation in DLC, most companies just see the money in it.

[QUOTE="Zassimick"]

I haven't bought any DLC yet. I just don't want to put in the money to purchase it. Maybe if it offers enough and I want to continue with the game I'll get it someday, but so far I haven't gotten any yet.

Considered the Fable 2 and Mass Effect content, also The Shivering Isles pack which is something I really want. But its still $30 on PSN and I'm not dishing that much for it.

KingTuttle

Shivering Isles was 30 bucks???

On PSN it still is. I have the PS3 version of Oblivion, the first game I bought with the system, and I rather not sell my copy to get the GotY edition which I can probably get for less than $30. :(

That's one thing I've wondered about DLC. Has the content been stable in price or have many things gone down in price over time? I understand special deals and I know the map packs of Halo 3 have gone free after a while, but do some of these things drop in price ever? If not, annoying! :P

I bought my first DLC in the Disgaea 3 Complete DLC Pack. I'll only buy DLC if it's for a game I know I'll be playing for a long time with multiple playthroughs and it's not something stupid like on disc costumes (SF IV)

[QUOTE="BoloTheGreat"] Most DLC is like 1/2 an expansion pack, well ok 1/4 of an expansion pack in most cases and about 1/16 in other (im looking at you Halo 3 maps). Most of this stuff was free in the past and it has only become paid for content due to the closed nature of services like XBL. Most of this BS is free on the PC (one way or another....)BoloTheGreat

Well that's it, the consoles are all closed platforms with licensing fees, of course you are going to be charged for it. The PC is an open platform where anyone can create software and sell it. there is no barrier to entry or licensing fees to speak of since there is no one company creating all PCs. People tend to forget this little fact quite often here. It's exactly why XBL works as a subscription service on the 360 and failed on the PC where it has tons of competition. (It also failed because it was inferior to it's console counterpart)

And that's why i don't buy DLC :D

Fair enough.

No, I don't want to support this despicable trend. Full content when bought FTW!

People don't seem to think over $5 for 3 maps is a rippoff. I beg to differ.

I believe 90% of it should've been on the game to begin with or in its inevitible sequel , so no unless its something I am basically adicted to like Halo 3 or Halo Wars

Im used not paying for content that could have been, and usually is, created by thr community. I've been at this gaming thing a loooong time and in most of that i have not had to pay for maps that come out, look at CnC3, free maps come up. It's called good community support, something that seems to have been lost. It's making people pay for something that was a curtousy before and made fans, fans. instead of flogging them for unreasonable sums for something that was always offered for free by people who actually gave a **** about something other than padding their bottom line.

Only occasionally.

I mostly buy it when it comes on a disk though, like the Mass Effect special edition and Fallout 3 GOTY edition.

You don't have to buy anything. Oh and it's a ripoff ONLY if you think it is. Therefore - don't buy it. Some of us enjoy some longevity in our games that we love.

[QUOTE="vashkey"][QUOTE="Hanass"]

I guess it's OK to blow up the White House then. As long as I don't kill more people than the World Trade Center, I should be fine.

KingTuttle

What the hell does that have to do with what we're talking about?

Who freakin knows man...

Ithink I understand. Overpriced is a bad thing, just like killing people. If this gen is less overpriced than previous gens (and I've been gaming since around 1988 if you want to ask, so I know what I'm talking about here) it doesn't matter since overpriced is still overpriced and that's still a bad thing. Hence the metaphore of killing people: it doesn't mater how many people you kill, killing in itself, just like being overpriced, is bad mmmkay.

As for games being overpriced, I'd say there's something to say for that too. Games generally have budgets that are much lower than those of movies, but still buying a Bluray movie will cost me about half of what buying a game would cost me. Relatively speaking games have been overpriced since the moment they got mass apeal, and maybe even before that (wouldn't know about that). He (Hanass) has a point if you ask me.

I tend to buy DLC. Lately though I've only been buying the ones that are worth their price tag.

plus the ms point system puts me off buying anything I might have bought (like the fallout dlc) if I could just pay what it costs.

I share it on PSN rather than pay money for content that should have been on the disc.

This. I dont like to use my money on some content that perhaps should have been in the game. For example RE5, I will never buy the multiplayer content, it should have been when the game was released.
