I got this new monitor for my computer and I'm really loving the 1440p visuals. Games like MGS V and Star Wars Battlefront look phenomenal on it. Surely this will be the default resolution next gen, right SW? I feel like this will be the next leap in graphics. Let me know your thoughts in the comments, below. Perhaps you'll get lucky and someone will troll you.

1440 is a decent bump over 1080p. My panel is 144hz (Swift Rog), which to me, makes a world of difference. I find I enjoy my 1440 144hz more than 4k @60fps.

1440 won't ever be on tvs, thus is a computer only standard. 4k will be the next jump for tvs/videos/eventually consoles.

720p and 768p.

Will likely be upgrading to 1440p with my next computer, but I can barely notice the difference between it and 1080p with my terrible eyesight.

I'm not going to lie, 1440p/60fps is freaking magical in games like Rainbow Six Siege, SC2: Legacy of the Void, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft. But even then, there's a lot more to games than just resolution and FPS. [Depends who you ask]

Once you go 120+fps, you can't go back, lol. It's a bigger difference for me than resolution bump.

Are there any decent 4K monitors for less than $400 and 32" or less? I also wonder whether next-generation consoles will be using 4K.

There do seem to be some monitors close to that price, according to amazon US:

yes 1440p with g-sync 144Hz monitor.

The 2k res is very nice but even better is the high frame rate. I don't ever want to go back.

5760 x 1080p triple monitors. I just purchased i7 5930K, x99 Asus deluxe MB and 16gb of GSkill mem. Next up I'm getting the 980ti. Down the line I'd like to get 3 1440p monitors but I'll have to wait till prices drop.

yep I am saving up to eventually go from 1080p 60hz to 1440p 144hz. The framerate is more important to me, and anything that can diminish ghosting. (I guess that just comes down to getting a good panel.)

I wonder whether PS5/XB2 will go 4k 60hz or less? It sounds crazy to have console games in higher resolutions than PC games XD

I've got three Asus Rog Swifts. I don't have any particular attachment to 1440p, but I'm a firm believer that the larger you go in monitors the higher the resolution needs to be to match and at 27" 1440p is a minimum resolution. I alternate between 1080p and 1440p depending on what display I happen to be gaming on at any given point (1080p projector, 1080p laptop, 1440p monitor).

My laptop has a native display resolution of 1366x768. It can hook up via HDMI and output at 1080p.

I've seen 1080p/1440p on another person's setup and had trouble noticing the resolution difference. I'm -6.25 in both eyes (and possibly worse, since it's been a few years since my last prescription change). Framerate is much more important to me at this point than anything else.

I know what you mean about frame rate. I try to get as much as I can at 60fps. And will turn down settings to get there.

I game at 1050p/60fps (native monitor performance). My monitors a little old but it isn't bad at all, so I don't feel compelled right now to upgrade that. It's not on the highest of my priorities.

I don't, but I can see the benefits of it for sure. I bought a nice HP 27 inch monitor on Black Friday and it looks great at 1080p, but there's definitely room for improvement. Doubt my graphics card could run games all that well at 1440p anyways.

My S6 edge is 1440p but very rarely have I ever seen appreciable differences on its 5.1 inch screen.

Very nice monitors, for right now, I can't justify paying that for anything that's going to be replaced in a year. I almost got one of those as well.

@howmakewood: @howmakewood: Tiny enough to only accomodate a 1080p display. There's also things surrounding my desk so they would be in the way of a bigger display, so yeah, people with small desks only have room for one monitor unfortunately...

I've always been curious as to what 4K gaming would look like, if it's anything like the demos they show for 4K TVs, then it must be pretty amazing, anyways, I'm still with 1080p.

Getting this when its in stock

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/acer-predator-xb271hu-27-2560x1440-ips-g-sync-165hz-gaming-widescreen-led-monitor-black-red-mo-098-ac.html

1440p will be bypassed on consoles and the tv market... its more of a niche PC resolution. a nice balance between the 2.

tbh going from 60hz and no gsync will be a bigger thing for me... hell, even to IPS, as I currenly have 2 dated TN panels.... and by dated, I mean 6 years old.

That's tricky because the majority of broadcast TV is 720p. Premium/movie channels are 1080i and PPV is 1080p, but we wont see anything better until the infrastructure changes. And I would bet consoles will still be native 1080p next generation as well. The hardware required to run games that devs are making at 1440p+ costs more than the average consumer wants to spend on gaming. 2-4 years from now, a custom built PC that can run games at 4K and 30 fps will still cost more than $500.

Seeing clearly and being able to distinguish a difference between 1080p and 1440p are not necessarily related.

I have trouble seeing the difference between 720p and 1080p with AF and AA maxed out.

I used to but I sold my 4K monitor for funds. Now I game at 1080p and to be honest I don't miss 4K and 1440p that much.

1080p gaming is still fine for what it is. I'll eventually upgrade to 4K again but I'm not really in a hurry after previously experiencing it.
