1440p, i thought hermits played at 4k these days?
And I thought Cows played at 1080p. We are all still learning new things everyday.
Cows get everything upscaled to 1080p that is not 1080p native so yeah, unless you got crappy TV

im still at 1080, i never thought it would make a massive difference...but after seeing some of the comments here it seems its alot better... what kind of card are you guys using for 1440p. unsure if my set up would support this
I use a BenQ XL2730Z, it's a 144hz 1440p monitor with FreeSync, I'm extremely happy with it.
4K isn't where it needs to be yet, low refresh rates and the hardware required to even have a consistent 60 FPS experience is just too expensive, it's not matured enough and proper 4K gaming is still several years away.
1440p displays are a tad pricey where I live. And then I'd have to upgrade my PC which I only just got, that was with 1080p and 60fps in mind for my budget. and having native 1080 with the high frame rate is fine for me right now.
PC not good enough for that atbthe moment and no point in upgrading untill VR stuff shows what kind of rig Ill need.
i gamed at 1440p for a while from 2012 to around 2014. I got a superior 1080p monitor so i'm back down to that res. To tell you the truth, i can't see much difference between the two except 1440p was really hard on my video card to run. And my 1080p monitor has superior response times over my 1440p so im happy with it.
If theres ever a really good 1440p or an ultrawide monitor that is just the right price for myself, i'd get it probably... just right now it doesn't feel right... 1440p was such a slight image improvement that i really don't care to get back into it any day soon.
Question for me though is 16:9 the way to go, or are ultrawide monitors...
I'm using a 1080p IPS 60hz monitor for now. Didn't spend too much on it because I want to get a 3440x1440 monitor next year (build my (first) pc this september :D). I used to think that 4k is the next big step like most people but when I saw some videos of people playing on an ultrawide monitor I changed my mind. That's where the future is at imo. Hope there will be 120hz IPS ones out by the time I upgrade. That would be glorious... and crazy expensive, probably. We'll see.
I have a 144hz 1080p gsync but im planning on 1440p or 4k when pascal hits. Cant wait.
And wow. My ipad auto-corrected "gsync" to "gay couples" wow. Just turned pff auto correct!
My my, look at Solid. Someone is finally seeing the light of PC Gaming lol
Yep. I am pretty happy with my 1440p 32-inch Benq, even though it's only 60hz. 1440p 60 fps is enough for me for gaming. For 4k or 120hz one needs a sli setup, which is too much hassle in my opinion.

mahaha. I actually just got the Dell u3415w loving every bit of it. GTX 970 does pretty well at 1440p.

I've recently considered getting a BenQ monitor, and that's one of the models I was looking at.

800 ? That's a pretty good price for it. Anyway, you either chose size or refresh rate. I haven't seen big monitors, 32-inches+, with high refresh rate yet. If they exist, they are probably premium-priced, 1500USD or more. When I chose my monitor, I had had an option of getting a 28-inch 4k 120hz, but I needed 32-inches in order to watch netflix from my sofa with MY HOT GIRLFRIEND yooo.
So yeh, 34-inches 60hz 5ms is a good monitor. Not everyone is at 120hz gaming. I am content with 60 fps and a big size display with which I can play and watch HD movies from my sofa.

If any game that interests me is in 1440p, then I will upgrade my monitor.
wtf is this suppose to mean?

$800 is pretty much the regular price for a 34" ultrawide

I'm going to use it for photo and video editing also, that program just tipped me over the edge for getting it. Also it's an entire computer that is capable of playing games quite well and doing many other things, it's not some terrible performing monitor, it may be 3 1/2 years old but I got a hell of a deal on it.
This thing has a 3.1 Ghz SandyBridge i5 in it with 12 gigs of RAM and a 6970m, it's not some slow piece of junk.
I never thought 1440p would provide such a massive difference over 1080p but it does. Pretty soon it'll be standard

Forgot how video\photo editing is impossible on a PC. It's outdated and it's a Mac,enjoy the gaming you'll do on that! The 6970m is getting 40fps at 1080p running the original Crysis. Might be able to max out Candy Crush!

It's not impossible, don't be dramatic, the programs and tools are inferior and stability is a major issue during renders, PC's are good at a lot of things but Mac's just fill a niche PC's cannot hit where media is concerned, it's just not where the market is centralized. It plays Source engine games at 100+ FPS 2560x1440 maxed out so I'm not seeing the problem, especially considering I won't be using it for that as you can see what is literally right next to it, but the capability is there if need be...

Also this.
Nya, I'm not shitting on your purchase here, you got something you like and if it helps you catalogue that crazy game collection of yours then awesome! I'd say money well spent man, but this...

This is false man. I can see how you might have been swayed to believe this, I used to hear that nonsense for years, but it's simply untrue. I'm not speaking from some hobbyist point of view here either.
That said, having a secondary machine is never a bad thing. You can do all the media stuff you want to do on your Mac while still having fun, or even multitasking your projects on your PC.
Just don't buy into the bull that Macs are actually better at video/image editing. They're not.
there little point getting a 2k monitor for the same price as a 4k vizio tv im glad i got my 43 c1 and im never going back to overpriced tiny monitors
Monitors have much better sharpness, picture quality and input delays.

Good thing I didn't pay $800 for it :) I got it on the Dell deal last week - it was $700 + $250 eGC from Dell + 10% Cash Back from Discover. As for response time, it's a little lower, but it's not like I'm a professional gamer or anything like that. It works just fine for me.
Yes I do. I can't go back to 1080p. 1440p looks so much better it's indescribable.
What brand/model monitor are you using if you don't mind me asking?

I have myopia too, -6 and -6.5 on the left and right eye respectively (Close to that, can't remember exactly), but I go for an eye check-up every 6 months, I can see clearly. Why don't you go for your check-up?
Seeing clearly and being able to distinguish a difference between 1080p and 1440p are not necessarily related.
I have trouble seeing the difference between 720p and 1080p with AF and AA maxed out.
The thing is it's more noticable when monitor sizes increase. How big is your laptop screen ?
If you run 720p on a 45inch TV it won't look that great anymore. Playing 1440p on a 29" screen or 4K on an even bigger screen can make a lot of difference when it just comes to finer and clearer picture.
It's all about that PPI (pixels per inch of a screen)
But my phone for example has an insane res for a tiny screen and my laptop has a lower res (like yours) for a 15" screen. I think my latop screen is fine and is clear enough.
I only really notice the massive PPI on my phone when looking at a really high res picture for example. But like if you want a 45"-50"-60" TV or 27"-29"-32" monitor you'll want a high PPI too. those are big sceeens so you want a good resolution to go with them :)
@foxhound_fox
720p and 768p.
Will likely be upgrading to 1440p with my next computer, but I can barely notice the difference between it and 1080p with my terrible eyesight.

Ah, my bad, I thought you could not see the difference because you have bad eyesight..
I used to game on 1440p on my monitor, but since then i've moved my pc to my main tv which is 4k... just my GPU isn't strong enough so i just use 1080p for the extra frames. Soon as the Nvidia 1080 GTX gets released, i'll be 4k gaming.
@SolidGame_basic: Mostly on PC yes, 1440p is better. But my problem is that it's still with LCD's. Plasma is ultimately better. I would rather game at 1080p on a Plasma display. My 1440p is a Dell Ultrasharp U2713, which is no slouch and great for graphic design and I do game on it when a game requires me to use a K+M., but I still would rather game on my 2007 Panasonic 1080p Plasma. Picture quality just rapes current IPS and VA type panels. LCD needs to be overtaken by OLED soon! But I can't use Plasma for overall graphic work because of burn in, so it's restricted to gaming and movies. I cannot wait for OLED to be affordable to replace LCD monitors.
