All the stuff you get on Gold is the same as Silver except playing online, and we pay 50 bucks a year, so developers get an online that they don't have to work their asses off to get up and running.

how about it is an incentive to dev's to keep up with games that have been released. since ms gives them 90% of proceeds from dlc, it encourages them to make extra content available. not to mention it cost about one game a year and already has made my 360 better.

Maybe because PSN is a terribly ad hoc online system? My point was, PC has been providing free online for nearly a decade and has hit no snags thus far. I can't see why developers suddenly need to charge to provide an online component.

Those are MMORPGs, the exception to the rule as they require much more intensive facilities. And when you play them on 360, you still need to pay for XBL AND the MMORPG fees. So the point is irrelevant, XBL still costs twice as much.

You are still for some reason, being charged for a fee that has not existed anywhere else.

Again, MMORPGs also require additional fees on XBL due to the nature of them (thousands of people on single servers simultaneously). So the point still stands there is no reason to be paying for XBL fees.

Yeah, but when you have over a million people playing one game (GeoW) it pays to have facilities not unlike those an MMO has.

Xbox live service is quite decent even for the money it allows users to send video messages and stuff but the major upside to it is how simple it is to play online with. Just sign in and select xbox live multiplayer no needing to get a new account for every game like on PC

Counter Strike has more people playing (in fact, Counter Strike has 200,000 people playing at any time according to Steam). It does not require fees. Nor do the Unreal Series, which have more people than Gears of War, or Starcraft.

MMOs are different... They have a constant stream of New stuff coming out, all the time.... and on GEOW, how many of those people play at the same time.... 8...Wow probably has 100,000s on single superservers.

I think PC gaming and Consoe gaming are in two and whole different thing, experience, just they are differnet. PC is a lot easier for dev to do what they want, and allow thiem to make the best games. where as consoles its harder, but I am no developers, neither are you guys, so who knows?

Shows that I've never played an MMORPG on XBL? Fine, I can live with that. It's unlikely someone would pay for an MMO on XBL and not be a gold subscriber anyway, so they'll still most likely be paying.

You guys can bash it all you want. I have no problem paying for it because I know what I'm getting. If I didn't think it was worth $4 a month, I wouldn't pay for it. The whole expierience is better than anything I've ever played on PC. It's not just words flashing across a screen. It's a person I'm talking to, laughing with or cussing at. It evokes emotions I'll never get out of a keyboard.

Live is the definitive way to play multiplayer.

You're argument is flawed because all these things are available on PC for free. I can play the games free, (or at the same cost if it's an MMORPG). I can use the universal friend lists and grouping programs for free (and Live is coming to Windows) I can use the voice chat programs like TeamSpeak or Ventrillo free.

Probably a little south of a million in WoW, Everquest I'd say less. My point was, we should forgot about MMORPGs, because they are games that legitimately require fees, and that's fine. However, Gears of War, or Halo, do not legitimately require fees, because there are other FPS that have a heck of a lot more people playing across them, and don't require an online subscription.

Yeah. Thing is though. Everyone who uses XBL does all of these. Not just one or the other. You'd be hard pressed to find 5+ million people on PC who do. Much less find 500,000.

First the point is pointless. I know friends of mine that are addicted to FFXI so they no longer pay for XBL gold.

2nd. So that all you console games have some sort of online function? So that you get more games that are online multiplayer then any other system? So you have unified friends lists? so you dont have to put up with seperate programs like PC gaming? so voice support is widly supported? So that you can easily avoid players that annoy you? so that you can easily find like minded players to play with?

Like I said you dont know what you are talking about.

[QUOTE="air0123"]PC's big online games cost money, WoW, Ever quest.cobrax25
once MMOs hit XBL, they will cost extra, I can gaurentee it.

They already do. FFXI costs extra. MMOs are very different from match based games in how they must be hosted.

[QUOTE="air0123"]Someone said in here that something like 200,000 people are playing a certain game at one time and it is free. How many people do you think are playing WoW and everquest at one time? I can pretty much guarentee that it is more than that.Danm_999

I understand that, but if you are going to play a game with somewhere around a million people playing at any given time, then you need to pay for that because if not, then it will be crap.

Yeah. Thing is though. Everyone who uses XBL does all of these. Not just one or the other. You'd be hard pressed to find 5+ million people on PC who do. Much less find 500,000.

X-fire has over 6 million users.

Agree 100%. I like not having 500 programs to run to do the things I do on XBL. Also playing with people you like to and avoiding people you dont like I so easy to do on XBL.

1) Not everyone who uses XBL does all of those. In some regions, (PAL) 360s do not come packaged with mikes. 2) The number of people using Teamspeak or Vent in games like CS are astronomical.

And, every single one of them uses every feature offered? I doubt it. Especially the voice chat.

XBL is a complete package as far as I am concerned.  The coolest part is playing all the arcade games online with friends who now live thousands of miles away.

Like contra or street fighter.  I dont think those games would have a quality online compenent without XBL.

I have never had a problem paying for certain services online, from MMO's to XBL.

For the standard support it provides across all games its a nice service.  Its even cool to be able to open up a chat with those same friends that now live far away during a single player game and just BS while we play.

Yeah, but when you have over a million people playing one game (GeoW) it pays to have facilities not unlike those an MMO has.

Counter Strike has more people playing (in fact, Counter Strike has 200,000 people playing at any time according to Steam). It does not require fees. Nor do the Unreal Series, which have more people than Gears of War, or Starcraft.

Then why am I paying £30 a month for a dedicated clan server for CS yet £30 a year to play on ALL 360 XBL enabled games? PSN is comparable to public servers, wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. XBL seems to be something of a middle ground.

Becuase £30 is split up by everyone in the server, is not neccesary if you already have your own server, and lets you mod.....
