You guys can bash it all you want. I have no problem paying for it because I know what I'm getting. If I didn't think it was worth $4 a month, I wouldn't pay for it. The whole expierience is better than anything I've ever played on PC. It's not just words flashing across a screen. It's a person I'm talking to, laughing with or cussing at. It evokes emotions I'll never get out of a keyboard.

Live is the definitive way to play multiplayer.

cobrax25

You're argument is flawed because all these things are available on PC for free. I can play the games free, (or at the same cost if it's an MMORPG). I can use the universal friend lists and grouping programs for free (and Live is coming to Windows) I can use the voice chat programs like TeamSpeak or Ventrillo free.

Yeah. Thing is though. Everyone who uses XBL does all of these. Not just one or the other. You'd be hard pressed to find 5+ million people on PC who do. Much less find 500,000.

Agree 100%. I like not having 500 programs to run to do the things I do on XBL. Also playing with people you like to and avoiding people you dont like I so easy to do on XBL.

X-fire alone does everything.... and has over 6 milllion users

REALLY ?! so with two clicks I can avoid a gamer forever in every single online game I will ever play on my PC?

Didnt think so.

Well, I'm glad you have a comprable service that plays a handful of games. Compared to every 360 game.

No, but not because they, cant. Becuase they dont want to, Just as you arent required to use any XBL features. Outside of Clans, Voice Chat needs to be specifclly built into the game to give a large benifit.

First the point is pointless. I know friends of mine that are addicted to FFXI so they no longer pay for XBL gold.S0DA_POPINSKI

I would go out on a limb and say people in their situation are in the minority.

2nd. So that all you console games have some sort of online function? So that you get more games that are online multiplayer then any other system? So you have unified friends lists? so you dont have to put up with seperate programs like PC gaming? so voice support is widly supported? So that you can easily avoid players that annoy you? so that you can easily find like minded players to play with?

Like I said you dont know what you are talking about.S0DA_POPINSKI

Again, none of these things aren't neglected on the PC. Most games have online support on the PC, more games have online support than consoles (its been around for nearly a decade), you can get programs with unified friends lists like Xfire that have more users than XBL (Xfire has 6 million), seperate programs aren't necessary or worth shelling out $50/year, Voice support IS widely supported (it was basically born and perfect on PC), you can easily avoid those who you don't like or allow yourself to group with players of your ability.

You've shown me nothing I can't do on PC for free. Why is XBL worth $50/year?

No, Built in, as in a squad function like in BF2. Otherwise, you get kids shouting with each other for hours.

One thing I dont get on my PC that I have been getting over XBL is all the fully co-op games online.

Right at launch my buddy (again who lives thousands of miles away now) and I co-oped through the entire SP story of PD0... to gears of war... to contra and street fighter.  Its all about bieng standard... all 360 games, even the sp, have good online components.  Even if its just the ability to open up a private chat with anyone anytime... even if I am online playing a 16 player game can open a private voice chat with a friend who just logged on.

Someone also mentioned donations to servers...  I do donate to my fav. community servers to keep them going.  I donate to my PC CoD2 community and my BF2 community.

I can avoid a player I dont like for EVERY SINGLE game I will ever play online on my 360. With two clicks or so. Show my the PC online service that does that.

Windows is getting Live. Xfire has ignore player features. As well, the PC online community is so big, you probably won't randomly play with said person ever again. But is that really worth $50/year to you.

First the point is pointless. I know friends of mine that are addicted to FFXI so they no longer pay for XBL gold.cobrax25

Lucky for you, you can see what players are on a server before you play any game....

WORD, because scrolling through lists of players is so much easier then just choosing the type of match you want and going. And Like you are going to remember the names of the like 100 people I have avoided so far on XBL. Lame, admit you cant do it and move on.

[QUOTE="cobrax25"][QUOTE="danabo"][QUOTE="Danm_999"][QUOTE="rhaigun"][QUOTE="Danm_999"][QUOTE="air0123"]PC's big online games cost money, WoW, Ever quest.danabo

Those are MMORPGs, the exception to the rule as they require much more intensive facilities. And when you play them on 360, you still need to pay for XBL AND the MMORPG fees. So the point is irrelevant, XBL still costs twice as much.

You are still for some reason, being charged for a fee that has not existed anywhere else.

Yeah, but when you have over a million people playing one game (GeoW) it pays to have facilities not unlike those an MMO has.

Counter Strike has more people playing (in fact, Counter Strike has 200,000 people playing at any time according to Steam). It does not require fees. Nor do the Unreal Series, which have more people than Gears of War, or Starcraft.

Then why am I paying £30 a month for a dedicated clan server for CS yet £30 a year to play on ALL 360 XBL enabled games? PSN is comparable to public servers, wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. XBL seems to be something of a middle ground.

Becuase £30 is split up by everyone in the server, is not neccesary if you already have your own server, and lets you mod.....

But I thought it was free? So now more than one person is paying for server costs or am I paying to run my own server? Somebody's paying for something, and this is just one game(CS). With XBL all games are enabled for a one off yearly payment of £30. When playing CS I'm paying, ironically, £360 a year.

But thats a server host.... and if and only if, you are renting your server from a providor. Servers can be set up easily using cheap extra computers...

All the stuff you get on Gold is the same as Silver except playing online, and we pay 50 bucks a year, so developers get an online that they don't have to work their asses off to get up and running.

Guess_With_ReX
The question is: How much are you willing to pay for matchmaking, messaging, voice chat, and online play that works on all games by default?

PC games do have online Co-op (Diablo series) and many more have had it put in through mods (Half Life, Doom, Quake etc).

Having to pay for XBL is bullcrap. That the money goes towards servers is also bullcrap since most of the game servers are user hosted like on PC's and PSN. Don't believe the propaganda. XBL is just more Microsoft money-mongering.

The $50 a year goes to help developers implement Live connectivity, since MS is asking all devs to support Live at least in some way, and making sure it is the same experience across all the games.

[QUOTE="Danm_ WINDOWS HAS A VERSION OF LIVE. LIVE ANYWHERE, WORKS EXACTLY THE SAME FOR FREE. How many times must it be said? Geez.

So far with 1 game and its not even live yet. And the only reason its coming out is because pc gamers begged for a service like live.

First the point is pointless. I know friends of mine that are addicted to FFXI so they no longer pay for XBL gold.Coyo7e

PC games do have online Co-op (Diablo series) and many more have had it put in through mods (Half Life, Doom, Quake etc).

Through mods doesnt count. Its a totally differant ball game to have the dev's make the game ready to be online co-op the day you pick it up... and have them desighn for it. On XBL I expect online co-op on the PC its still the exception to the rule.

Even the R6 vegas terrorist hunts with 3 friends the day we buy is great.

what do you mean Mods dont count? devs expect and want their games to be modded.

Having to pay for XBL is bullcrap. That the money goes towards servers is also bullcrap since most of the game servers are user hosted like on PC's and PSN. Don't believe the propaganda. XBL is just more Microsoft money-mongering. Rune_Warrior

It has nothing to do with servers, and everything to do with off-setting the cost of making Live cross-game compatible and making sure every game has some sort of Live support.

None of us begged for it, why would we when we have a feature just as good.

I can avoid a player I dont like for EVERY SINGLE game I will ever play online on my 360. With two clicks or so. Show my the PC online service that does that.

X-Fire has an ignore feature....

Not ignoe (XBL can mute too) Avoid, never see again, bye bye nice to know you. Admit you cant do it and move on. Because muting someone isnt the same as never playing with them again. I just dont like the way some people play. It have nothing to do with talking. I avoid and BANG see ya. Like I've said. Admit you cant do it and move on.

yes its there both muteing and an ignore feature. http://www.xfire.com/cms/xf_archlord_transcript/

Ignore as in the person cant join a game you are in? and for every single game on PC?

every game thats compatible with X-fire yes. Though since we use a server and not a ranking system to find games, the chance of meeting the same person again are highly unlikely.

The cost of XBL also resides in accessing most online components of games. If it didn't, you'd be able to play most games online sans a friends list, matchmaking etc.

[QUOTE="BladeofImmortal"][QUOTE="S0DA_POPINSKI"][QUOTE="BladeofImmortal"]Resistance is going strong on PSN. It all depends on how the developers handle it for the PSN, not Sony.S0DA_POPINSKI
V. Tennis? The lack of unified friends lists is huge too imo.

Why was that quote directed at me? I didn't even talk about V-Tennis.

wasnt "at" you was in responce. You said its all about developers. I agree with the point. Then I meant look what Sega did with VT.

oh ok, my bad.

Mods dont count becouse of the additional time and install issues that exist for it.  It took forever for there to be a doom3 co-op that ran reasonably well and was well balanced.  Out of the box, desighned by the dev's, with a solid net code, right from day one.  It takes time to make a quality mod for PC games, especially games that are using new engines.. ( like when doom3 first released).

No extra hassle its just there.

Why would we beg for Live? We have it better for free.
