I pre-order and buy all my games from my local Gamestop. I used to work there, made a few friends, have a few connections, and thus, I can usually get things for a good price and even get some games early. Works out for me just swimmingly.

I am amazed they even had the PC version...their PC section is always some obscure shelf. No, i totally despise Gamestop not only because the open the boxes of games, but also sometimes they rip out CD-Keys from PC games, not to explain that some of them are also fanboys, when i went to buyMass Effect for my PCthey desperatly tried to convince me to get the 360 version.

Thing that pisses me off the most is the exclusive pre-order crap >: | SAGE_OF_FIREWill you guys get over it? I would like to see for once that people like you would respect the PEOPLE working there, because they are people. Their job DEPENDS on pre-orders. If they dont get pre-orders, they get less hours. All you have to do is say "No" anyway. They dont keep asking you about the same damn game several times in a row, hoping you'll say yes. It's not even a big deal.

Their PC selection is quite small, and yes, it's mostly one shelf. The one I go to, it's between the Wii games and the cashier counter. :?
I go there all the time, never had a problem with the stores, and one of the best places to buy used games (Nothing before 2002 though) just because of the sheer volume of used games, and if you buy a new game there (Shrink wrapped, day 1) what difference does it make where you buy it? It doesn't, people just love to hate Game Stop for some reason.Im_singleYou are TOTALLY right. I am glad some people here dont hate GameStop incessantly for no good reason.
I don't care for Gamestop as a chain, but It all comes down to the people working there. I would much rather buy a game from a game enthusiast that will give an honest opinion than from a group of people that, even when looking at the games, thinks I'm going to steal them(best buy).
Hell no. Back in 2003 I pre-ordered Zelda: WW so that I couldget the Master Quest disc. I paid it in full months before the release date. On release day I went to pick up my copy and the douche behind the counter handed me an open game. I was like. "Uh no dude I paid for a new game so I want a new game." He looked at me confuzed and told me, "What does it matter?" I was amazed. I got my money back and haven't stepped foot in one since.
nope! I don't like gamestop at all. As many have said, I use it as a last resort.
For example:
I went there to buy star ocean 4 last week and the employee walks in back, grabs the case that's all stickered up, grabs a lil paper disc case, and slides the disc out and into the stickered up case. Then they ring it up and it's 60-something bucks with tax. So I ask, "there's no factory sealed new copies? I mean I'm not buying a used copy, I'm buying a brand new copy", "no sir this is the last one". So I told them I'd go buy it somewhere else. I went to best buy, and they had like 10 + copies all perfectly sealed.
I preordered demon's souls from there when the US version was first announced. When I went to pickup my game I knew the art book and music disc were not in there, so before I left I said, "don't I get my preorder bonus art book and music disc? and the employee says, "no everything is in there". So I went into my car, opened it up and sure enough, no art book or music disc. So I truck back in there and I said, no, everything isn't in here, I want my art book and music disc, I preordered it at least a full 2-3 months before it came out. So the guy fumbles through the drawer by the cash register for about 10 seconds and he says "oh here they are!" as if he didn't know they were there? Why couldn't he just look when I asked him in the first place?
All the complaints are valid, in fact it is usually the case, but if you find the right store with the right workers, it becomes more pleasant. They get to know that you aren't going to want all the bs they offer--and I don't like the "display box as new" thing either, but I feel comfortable saying I don't want an opened game. I know I can get games cheaper on amazon, but sometimes I just like going to the store and talking with people that have common interests. It's tangible, similar to the reasons I prefer physical copies of games to digital downloads. Increasing online purchases only encourages digital formats, in ways.
Nope, they sell defective products 100% of the time that I shop there (two broken og xboxes back to back, broken game, broken gamecube cable, broken 360 controller). That's unacceptable for me. They do other scumbag moves but a retailer who primarily sells broken goods shouldn't exist as a retailer imo.Senor_Kami
100% of the time, really? I highly doubt that's the case, plus, unless you are stupid, you are allowed to TEST the used consoles upon purchase. How on earth you bought a broken 360 controller is beyond me. If it was a factory sealed MS controller, is that really gamestops fault?
I think Gamestop is one of the few stores that is very much a case by case situation. I have a great manager and staff at the one by me(little to PS3 fanboyish but still cool)I shop at Gamestop and many other stores for games, the manger at my Gamestop though has hooked me up many times and taken good care of me and my money.
Ive just started seeing Gamestops in Canada but from my experiences so far I would say they're "alright". Just like EB games bascially. Arnt they owned by the same company? I havent been to either in a long time though, no I just go to rogers video because its across the street, lol
They're alright. Id prefer their trade-in values be higher or used game prices lower. Sell them you game for $30 or less and they put it up for $55? What a rip off.killab2oo5You do realize they have to make a profit to keep functioning? I mean what would your accepted values be? The reason they have the values that they do is all dictated by the customers. Don't blame Gamestop blame your fellow gamers. If games didn't get traded in when the trade in value is $30 then they would have to raise the price of trade in. If people didn't buy a used game when it was listed for $55 then the value would drop.
As long as the majority of customers are content with getting $30 for a trade in and paying $55 for a used game then that is what they are going to keep the prices at. Its called a business for a reason, not a make this one particular gamer happy, or even the minority. As long as the majority of the people go with what they are offering they have no reason to change and to try to gain as much profit as they can. This is every businesses goals is to turn huge profit and make their investors happy.
