[QUOTE="Catpee"]

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"] JRPGs and action adventure games?Nokanhav

LOL, god no. Those are actually a couple of my least favorite.

Fighting and sports games.

Ummmmmmmmm .... Just plug your 360 controller into your PC and play the same games with 5x better graphics and frame rate.

WOW really?!

So I can play Madden 09 on my PC even though EA never released it? No....

So I can play the same version of NHL 09 on my PC even though the PC version is absolutely garbage in comparison? No....

So I can play MLB the Show 09 on PC with my 360 controller even though it doesn't exist?

So I can play Virtual Fighter 5 on PC through a buggly emulator with nobody on the other end to play me? Sweet!

Heck, I don't think an emulator even exists yet for Soul Caliber 4, BlazBlue, or the newest King of Fighters that is coming out.

I get SF4, and the jury is still out on how good it is going to be or how much community support will be out on it, other than that, you are playing fighting games through crappy emulators with next to ZERO community support, and as far as sports titles, you get the shaft as a PC user from companies like EA and Sony with terrible buggy ports that never get supported.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="kidcool189"] but its obvious consoles have a better selection of sports/fighting games...

If you want to argue sports games you would have a hueg fight on your hands with the PC sports games fans. Especially the FIFA heads. Fighting games are beginning to make their mark on the PC as well.

but fifa and PES are on consoles too... the only sports related games that are pc exclusive that come to mind is football manager or w/e and fighting games have yet to begun to make their mark on PC...

Yes, you can. Though, I can't say why or how because of the TOU.

When it happens, I'll be the first one to switch. But one game doesn't make a library.

Maybe if I cared about soccer, FIFA might do something for me, and even then you are showing exactly what I'm talking about. FIFA '08 for PS3 was built from the ground up on consoles and is absolutely gorgeous. FIFA '08 on PC was a PS2 port. PS2! Again, PC gets the shaft. No thanks.

FIFA is horrible on PC now, and I loved playing 06 and 07 on PC. It's nothing but shoddy, last-gen ports.

Sorry, I don't steal. And if you use an emulator, you are using the limited emulator community to find opponents, so again, PC loses out.

You don't need exclusives in sports. Heck, there aren't even that many sports exclusives on consoles as it is. The PC can easily compete in sports titles. And yes, Fighting games are making their mark on the PC.

You are wrong, and I just told you why. The last FIFA game released on PC was a PS2 port and PES hasn't been good in years. Every single major sport you take a backseat. Hockey, you get a vastly inferior version of the best hockey game ever created in NHL '09 for PS3 or 360, take your pick. Football, you guys don't even get Madden anymore. MLB the Show is the best licensed baseball game ever created and PC doesn't get it. Basketball is nonexistent on PC.

As far as fighting games, yeah, One Must Fall was great 100 years ago, and maybe you can name some other obscure fighting games nobody plays, but I can literally bury you in a library of fighting games popular both here and in Japan that PC never got a released title on and you guys only get through emulation (again....with no support or community).

Sorry, if PC supported my gaming habits, I would have upgraded my desktop 2 years ago when I needed to, but I haven't, and it's not because I'm ignorant or poor. When Diablo 3 is released, I'll build a new rig, but not a minute before then. Sorry, PC has nothing to offer someone like me who doesn't play FPS, RTS, or MMOs.

PC. I never feel like i own a console. like a game...when i buy a console it feels like im just buying the right to use the platform and its games. i cant legally mod it (and there are legit reasons to mod a console...such as loading it with linux or turning it into a media center). but my PC is mine...i can do whatever i like with it (well mostly...piracy is of course against the law). i can put whatever OS i want on it and play any game i want on it....even some console games (very dodgy area i know). i also like that any and all are welcome to PC development. i can start making a PC game right now. if i wanted to make a console game i would have to pay a fortune to get near it as a developer. even if i have the money im still not guranteed permission to develop for a console. many companies can also compete on the PC. on the consoles their manufaturers rule them with an iron fist. want to play online on the 360 but dont want to use xbox live? tough....u will use xbox like or u wont play online...that simple. same for the other consoles. on the PC there are companies competing to offer the best service so in the end...we win. a few things i do like about the platform model. easier to use: this is not as true as it used to be...consoles are getting more complex to use. but there still not PC complex yet (and hopefully they never will be). all hardware is the same: this is a double edged sword. although the hardware is locked down until the next console....devs can at least squeez every last drop out of it. so a console that is out of date will still technically speaking will still produce some nice visuals. devs cant keep that focus on the PC. but overall id take the PC model as a gaming device. an open platform where 1000s of companies in different fields can compete. its not controlled by a dictator.

I was thinking about this the other day and was wondering if everyone liked platform games better. I do, because you dont have to constantly update a console, worry about it being hacked*, or pay $650.00 for it in the first place.

last time i logged onto halo i had to download updates except took longer than my pc

I prefer game consoles. I like playing things other than MMORPGs, FPSs, RTSs and WRPGs. And honestly I prefer game pads. Give me the mouse superiority lecture all day, I don't care. And I don't know how to build and upgrade computers. And most of my friends play on consoles... Soo...

Other than a few select pc exclusives, I'd much rather play on consoles. I have more friends that game on consoles and I just find XBL and PSN more enjoyable than pc gamingonline (such as steam, xfire, gamespy etc...)

This is almost inarguable. Even the console exclusives look several times better when they're played on PC.

I like PC way better because I simply can't stand a controller for FPS games, and graphics are very important for me (consoles just simply don't have the hardware that can best a PC's graphics).

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="Jamex1987"]It's more fun to play games with friends and the controller adds a lot of excitement to games. Not saying you can't play Pc games with friends but in most cases it's not that easy and requires you to install all sorts of programs.Jamex1987

Which take the sum total of 3 minutes to do at most. Alot of these time complaints are really counting crumbs. If anything, consoles are becomming just as bad with their mandatory installs and their patches and whatnot.

Then you have to make sure all your friends install the same program. Too much of a chore if you ask me. All I do is just turn on the 360then create a party and we are good to go. You can hardly make new friends in the majority of Pc games since they are so alienated. A patch for a 360 game takes a few seconds in case you didn't know.

I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about... what "programs" do you need to install to play online with friends? You just need to have the same game installed! Or maybe you actually want to play pirated games with friends and, damn, you need to find ways to circumvent the difficulties posed by those pesky developers!

You cited soccer, and the last FIFA '08 was a PS2 port that scored terribly and had no support from EA. PES '08 on PC scored a 7.0 here, hardly a world beater.

You obviously don't play either of them so I have no idea why you are talking about them.

And how does PES make up for the lack of an American football game? That very idea is completely laughable to an NFL fan. You are either a fan of the NFL or you are not, and no soccer game is going to work as a stand in for a NFL title that didn't come to your platform of choice. Every word you type it just become more and more obvious you neither play sports games, watch sports, know anything about the mind of a sports fan. You act like Madden is Splinter Cell and PES is MGS and if I can't have one of them, I can always make do with the other. Seriously, it's obvious you don't know sports, so stop talking about it.

I'm extremely big into PES. It is probably one of my favorite sports games of all time. For people like me, and I know there are plenty of others like me on the PC judging by my XFIRE friends list, greatly prefer PES on the PC over most of the other sports games that you find on other platforms. As this is our opinion, people like myself simply prefer PES so much on the PC that it easily makes up for the lack of Madden 09 on the PC. Thus, since there are people like me, it isn't necessarily so that sports games are inherently superior on the consoles, if you are to include all the genres. People give higher weight to certain genres, and people like me who place such high weight on PES and soccer clearly would prefer playing 'sports' games on the PC. Therefore, the PC can compete in sports games.

Again, one title doesn't make a library. You are cherry picking. The last PES scored marginally higher on PC than it did on 360, and then you have Madden (doesn't exist on PC), MLB the Show (doesn't exist on PC), MLB2k9 was a disaster on all platforms and you would be lucky to tell the difference between the console and PC only PC again has less players, NHL '09 (garbage on PC, GOAT hockey game on console), you get NBA2k9 (same on all platforms with less players on PC) and no Live '09 at all on PC. FIFA is better on console. So this is a clear cut case of you telling me the sky is green when all I have to do is look out my window.

If PES is all you care about, then just say soccer is better on PC (and even that is debateable as FIFA has outscored PES that last 2 years straight and its better on console), but don't say "sports" as a genre, because its obvious it is not.

Sports games are generally not good on the PC. When they release them they are always watered down version. NBA 2K9 made it's way to the PC for the first time with no online play and no roster updates. Sorry but in this day and age online play is a must.

To atleast some people like myself, PES more than makes the library. Considering the sheer quality of PES and the huge following that it does has, people really like it. There are people like myself who simply do not care about hockey or football but care enough about soccer where the sheer quality of PES on the PC more than makes up for these titles. Suprise, this is where opinions come in. As far as baseball comes in, I gave you three titles that are really good on the pc; Mogul, Backyard, and Out of the Ballpark. The fact of the matter is that some people prefer soccer so much that the PC is the platform for them. Conversly, if football and hockey is all you care about, just say hockey and football are better on consoles.

[QUOTE="Catpee"]Again, one title doesn't make a library. If PES is all you care about, then just say soccer is better on PC (and even that is debateable as FIFA has outscored PES that last 2 years straight and its better on console), but don't say "sports" as a genre, because its obvious it is not.Vandalvideo

More people play PES on consoles you know.

And really it comes down to whether or not YOU are happy with the sports titles on PC. I am not, which is why I don't bother upgrading my PC, but everyone started chiming in telling me PC was competitive with console in the sports gaming market, which I believe I have pointed out it is not.

EA is king in sports. It sucks in somes ways, true, but it is still no less a fact.

If you want to play licensed NFL football, you are playing EA's version of it. And they have pretty much cornered the market on hockey with their absolutely PERFECT NFL series. EA, for whatever reason believes the PC is a dead market for them, Live and Madden didn't make it out for the PC last year, and that is probably a bad sign for sports fans on PC. Either the piracy is getting to EA or they believe that the key PC gamer demographic is not a sports fan, thus their money is not worth being spent on PC as a platform. For whatever reason, sports on the PC is dying a slow and ugly death. To deny that is just lying to yourself.

All you have pointed out is that, in the specific sports you are interest in, those specific games that you love aren't on the PC. That hardly qualifies as, "Consoles are the best platform for sports". As I have illustrated, there are people who would easily prefer sports on the PC given the games that are innately superior on that platform. Sports games aren't dieing on the PC.

Even though Winning Eleven hasn't changed in years and is now being passed in both overall sales AND review scores by FIFA? Like I said, you are cherry picking to justify your PC. Call it what it is. You like FPS, MMOs, and RTS, great, but don't sell the PC as the end all of gaming because for some with gaming habits like myself, the PC really has nothing to offer that I can't get somewhere else in a more polished form.

Until D3 comes out, the PC is dead to me.

each has different strengths...i don't think consoles can ever compete with rts, mmo's on pc. consoles do a decent job with fps...but even though i have a lot of fps games in consoles, i know kb/mouse combo is better....

on the other hand, pc's can't match up to every other genre imo....aftermarket controllers suck....

This is where that opinion bull crap you console users have been pulling for the last few months comes into play. You see, people like me really, really like soccer. People like me really, really like our clubs. People like me really, really are excited about getting those jerseys that you can't get on consoles. People like love PES on the PC moreso than any other sports game on Earth. People like me prefer sports on the PC. Don't like it? Tough, thats my bloody opinion.

It's cool if you like consoles more but at least play a PC first. "I do, because you dont have to constantly update a console, worry about it being hacked*, or pay $650.00 for it in the first place."...It's obvious you don't.

With the advent of increasing secure rom usages and limited installs... My PC gaming days are numbered.

I prefer PC games if only they control better or run alotsmoother on a PC. I prefer consoles for collecting games and not getting secure rom on my PC.

Really? I remember looking at the UK charts and PES PC was at the bottom then disappeared after the first week.

PC does most things better than a console. But a console is cheaper and easier to use. I prefer PC, but most gamers will want every system they can get.

All the best renditions of every major sport are on console, every....single....one.....that is the definition of "best platform".

Usually the PC, though the Wii complements it nicely. PC games are simply superior, much cheaper, and longer lasting.

according to Konami the PC represents 2% of their game sales. Maybe the majority of those PC players pirated the game because I don't see how you could think this game is more popular sitting at a computer desk.

In your opinion, those games are bad. In other peoples' opinions, those games are good. Simply because you enjoy The Show more doesn't really necessarily make it the better game. Some people like the baseball and soccer games on the PC. You have to realize that this is the entire opinion argument that you console fans have been shoving down our throats for the last five months. Some of us PC gamers simply prefer PES on the PC so much so over the other console sports games that we simply don't care about them. I don't care about NFL or NHL, because I personally think both sports are boring wastes of my time when I could be running around in the street screaming, "VIVA ESPANA!" I simply prefer soccer so much so that I don't care about all the other games. Like it or not, thats my opinion.

Cool, so you have no problem with the Halo fanboys who yell to the high heavens about how Halo proves that console FPS >>>>>>>>>>>> PC FPS even though it obviously is not.

Personally, I would rather prefer to call a spade a spade and not try to make a nonsensical argument about unfounded opinions. PC is better at some things than consoles....actually, it probably would be better at all things than consoles but developers like Bamco, SNK, EA, and Sony simply don't support it, so consoles is really all I have to work with at the moment given my taste in gaming.

Yes the vast majority of Pc gamers have their computer hooked up to 42inch HDTVs in the living room. They also have two controllers plugged into the USB ports. 2% is pathetic and you say the game is more popular on PC. lol

You seem to can't handle the truth. You probably think Street Fighter IV will also be more popular on PC.

I'm merely showing you how corrosive the argument is that you console fans have been using for months. I prefer soccer over football and hockey. I prefer PES so much so on the PC that it makes the PC the best platform for me to play sports on. Therefore, it isn't necessarily so that consoles are the place to go for sports games. People who like soccer may prefer to go to the PC.
