Just wondering, what do you guys think? Say in 2011 how much of the systems powers will be tapped, and what kind of graphics will we be seeing? Thanks.

.... this "tapped power" nonsense again. They will look next to nothing better than they currently do.Meu2k7
I disagree with this assertion. I won't delve into the nomenclature of "tapped power" but devs will get better at optimizing for both consoles. Both consoles will have better looking games by 2011. How much remains to be seen.

im very impressed with Far Cry 2 demos. Thats shows some major improvement.

Indeed, hence why I said "Next to nothing" ... 5-10% at tops... Gears of War to Gears of War 2 ... slightly smoother.
Optmization only goes so far, the hardware limits will keep it well below Crysis, and games such as Empire Total War.

no doubt, but some things are just not possible on consoles. you can see in the demo it has the classic console game background bluring.
Besides, looking back at past console generations, the 2 straggelers drop support earlier than the market leader, the PS3 and Xbox360 will drop out much sooner than the Wii.
2011? end of the life line, I expect most brilliant 3rd party developers to me preparing for Xbox720/PS4/ Nvidia 11800 by that point.

Completely agree with the last statement. "Crysis like"should not be allowed to be uttered by consolites.
In my opinion, not quite but the gap will have closed a bit, besides it's not like there is that huge of a difference in visuals between games like Uncharted/Call of Duty 4/Assassin's Creed and Crysis.Zerostatic0You haven't played Crysis at high detail, have you? At resolutions beyond 720p?

Actually... it's a huge difference if you have played it. I try not to sound biased... but I really don't think I am, seeing as I've played all those games you've mentioned on 99th percentile setup.

Ohhhh yes there is, coming from someone who has both PC versions of Assa Creed and Call of Duty 4 and Crysis.

Mine's better than yours, because my TV is better, my monitor is better, and I don't have a Wii or Xbox 360 to detract from them.
No chance. My PC can handle very high on Crysis and i also have my 360 hooked up to my monitor, nothing on the 360 looks anywhere near as nice as Crysis, and i doubt anything ever will on this generation of consoles
Probably expect to see Crysis graphics on the PS4 and xbox [whatever number here]

That's a Samsung 71F series LCD...
No. Maybe next gen. PS3 and 360 don't have enough ram. There are also other issues at play, but I see this as the main reason why this won't happen.dhjohns
Maybe next gen?? You must be kidding!!!! When a console comes out, the graphics are better than the PC. At 2011/2012 crysis will be a 5 years old game...

We'll see. To say that the graphics of a next gen console are betetr than a PC at launch is determined by what a developer does with that next gen console. And like I said, while you people will just be enjoying your "Crysis", we'll have moved on to the next graphical marvel.

Oh lol, so much could be said here.
While you guys are enjoying the next level of graphics on the ever limited amount of genres on the PC, the consoles will still be the frontrunners of the game industry.

Ignorance is bliss so they say. So tell me, you one of them "PC is dying" types. You know the ones who have been predicting a moment for the past 15 years that has yet to happen for some strange reason.
you guys are so bad at history. who ever says that the ps 3 and 360 can't do crysis graphics are either so far up crysis butt or are new to gaming. remember the game god of war 2 (ps 2) or soul reaver (ps 1) ect. once these dev's find short cuts and find new ways to use these consoles tech to at least 80% of the cosoles ect. there are going to be games that will surppass crysis graphics in 3 to 4 years from now.
more so for 4 years from now pc games.
you guys are also saying that there will be nothing until next gen 5 to 6 years from now that nothing will look good as crysis means that any one that has played crysis will not wow at another game for at least 5 years from now is a very bad thing for alll gamers. but really this will not happen considering it never happened in the past or the history of gaming.
yes the pc will always ahead put not 5 to 6 years ahead.

Ah yeah, the "untapped potential" of each console. Be sure to not hold your breath waiting for them to find it.

Hardware in the past is different from hardware today. In the past, consoles were almost wholly proprietary. Today, they are more or less PCs. I'm sorry, but optimization you saw you in the past, won't have the same yields today or in the future.

so your saying just like god of war 2 ect. no dev will ever use more than 30% of these console. are you saying these game today is the bench mark for these systems for graphics.ahh i work at microsoft and one of the tech guys managed to emulate crysis on 360 hardware and played it fine....
i think we are forgetting about far cry 2 comming out if that isn't proof enough

well sence there more like pc then it should be easier now than in the past to get med. settings of a pc quality graphics.[QUOTE="rimnet00"][QUOTE="Zerostatic0"]In my opinion, not quite but the gap will have closed a bit, besides it's not like there is that huge of a difference in visuals between games like Uncharted/Call of Duty 4/Assassin's Creed and Crysis.Thompsonwhore
