I've seen many comments about games that were cancelled for PC, eg Alan Wake, where some users wrote "good thing it's not coming for PC. PC gamers would just pirate it", and similar comments.

For example, I buy every game I might like, or if I read a good review of it. If I'm not that interested in a game, but thinkin about buying it afterall, I just try the demo or read the review etc.

So, do you think every PC gamer is a pirate at the same time?

By their rationality the PC games market should have died a long time ago, because no on buys games

Alan Wake got cancelled for PC because Microsoft wanted it to be a Xbox 360 exclusive.

Not all PC gamers are pirates. If they all were, where are the Steam sales coming from?

No

But I think most PC gamers have pirated once over the years.

But obviously it is a big problem becuase many devs are saying how its really hurting sales. Its unfortunate really as although Im a console gamer I love seeing great games coming out on the PC since graphically theyre incredible, but less and less of that kind of big budget thing will happen if pirates keep stealing games...

Yeah I think most PC gamers have pirated something, if not games then music, movies, programs or the like. I don't really care though. There are still games that sell millions and that seems to be enough incentive for devs to put their games on PC unless Sony/MS or someone is paying for their exclusivity.

Sigh, I'll just quote myself to clear up this myth:

"Nope, there are estimated to be 228 million PC gamers globally, 70% of all devs are making a PC title, PC's are played more than any console and PC gaming revenue is rising. Not to mention even here on SW the PC is the most preferred platform and the PC has the most AAE+ games this gen, by far."

And a bonus by Foidnite:

"Also PC gaming is nearly a $11 billion industry making it the most lucrative platform to develop for. Even EA seems to think so."

Probably. "Promoting" or linking Piracy is illegal on this forum, though I dont see why claiming you are a pirate should be... I guess it counts as promoting. I can gaurentee though all the people on these boards that claim to be 100% legit on everything are full of it. by listining to music tracks on youtube as a loop hole... like "used game" market  funny stuff.

I don't understand this number.. Especially when console has their own problems with legal methods such as the used game industry and rental industry which undoubtably have a impact.. Sales work differently in the Pc market, they sell well over time while the console games sell well the first month or two mostly than drop off.

There is a huge stigma around PC gamers that they mostly pirate their games, which is really wrong. Sure, piracy exists, but I think that media did their big part in this case.

I mean, I have an impression that media reports mostly about the cons of the PC, because, dunno, I guess it's popular to bash the PC nowadays. And yet, there's noone to defent the platform, except the users like folks here on systemwars.

Because the question was about PC gamers. And while piracy certainly isn't limited to PC gamers it wouldn't surprise me if the percentage is significantly higher among them. I don't really see it as much of an argument againts PC though. Piracy does have a correlation with sales, but it's actually the opposite of what people think. Games that sell well get pirated the most, if a game that sells badly is also pirated less, how could the poor sales be blamed on piracy? If you want you could even consider it an advantage, free games and all that jazz.

That isn't exacty a problem. If people don't want to buy the game they aren't going to buy the game. Period. Studies have shown that piracy has little negative effect on sales. All those "pirated" copies of games that developers/publishers see aren't lost sales, they are people that will never buy the game, regardless of whether or not they play it.

Not to mention the fact that we have demoes for the vast majority of games... I rent games to BEAT them not to try them out.. If I wanted to try them out I would download the demo and read reviews.

You are essentially pointing out that your own perspective isn't a mature one.

Your judgements are based on a grand assumption.

Nice one.

I believe every hermit has some form of pirated material on their PC. Whether that be a game, music, movies, tv shows, software, etc....they all have something. That makes them a pirate.

To try and extrapolate that and act as if that means PC users pirate everything ever, is a red herring.

I've pirated before, like most people here. But this isn't just PC gamers pirating, but PC users in general. You have all at least pirated a song, a movie, an episode, or a game, old or new. I do however, purchase games still. It also doesn't interrupt PC sales as they mainly grow over the coarse of time.

Every pc gamer; no

Alot of people;yes

I will never pirate a game where a publisher or dev is still making money on the game.( Unless its for a little civil disobedience, ie mw2, and spore) Games like fallout 1/2 where interplay and black isle aren't making any money from sales are fine.

Skektek gets it.

People who pirate would not have bought said product in the first place. I fix computers for a living, and almost every computer that is infected with viruses have torrenting software installed. Note: These computers are not gaming computers. They are computers that your mom or even grandma would own. Piracy is not just gamers. It is the general public. Of course, without pirating we would have less business.

Piracy helps me get $$$. MUHAHAHAHAHA..../evil laugh

IMO piracy is due to one fact only: the ridiculously high prices of games. I'm pretty sure movies cost just as much as video games to make, yet you only pay $5 to see it, as opposed to $50.
